Xperia arc and Xperia PLAYThe Sony Ericsson Xperia arc and Xperia PLAY will officially launch in Canada next week. There will be a limited launch of the handsets in select Sony Style stores on the 27 April, followed by the Rogers launch on 28 April.

The Xperia arc will come with a 16GB memory card, whilst the Xperia PLAY will come with a 8GB card. The Xperia PLAY will be pre-loaded with the following games: FIFA 10, Madden 2011, Star Battalion, Crash Bandicoot, Bruce Lee Dragon Warrior, Sims 3 and Asphalt 6: Adrenaline. Rogers pricing has been confirmed at C$549.99 for either phone sim-free or you can pay C$99.99 up front for a three-year contract and C$45 per month.     3 year contracts are just nonsense nowadays! I mean seriously, with all this great technology who would want to stick with a phone for 3 years.

    I find the one year or 18 month contract for being far more reasonable and believable as well :)

    I agree. However, Rogers allows you to do a hardware upgrade without penalty after 24 months meaning that a 3-year contract has nothing to do with hardware, just with guaranteed income. And doing an upgrade at 24 months also means you have to extend your contract to get the best pricing. The only annoying part is if Bell/Telus happened to have a better hardware option…then you’d be stuck with Rogers unless you were lucky enough to be at the end of your contract.

    And now, I am the proud sorta-owner of a new Xperia arc. It’s on my account, but it’s not in my possession. The spouse needed a new phone more than I did.
