The hugely popular PC indie hit, Minecraft, is set to arrive on the Sony Ericsson Xperia PLAY for a set period of exclusivity according to Gamasutra. The developer Mojang confirmed that the Xperia PLAY version will feature customised controls for the slide-out joypad. The Android version will then hit other phones and an iOS port is also expected.
Do not expect an exact port of the PC version, the company said that the game “needs to be customized to fit the mobile specifications.” However, it will carry the PC model of “release early and update frequently.” There are no other details in terms of pricing or release dates for now, however Sony Ericsson is expected to showcase the title (among others hopefully) at the E3 gaming conference on 7th June. Check out the Minecraft-themed E3 media event invite below, telling attendees to “stay in the light and take refuge with Sony Ericsson to keep the creepers at bay.”
Update: We’ve attached the first picture of Minecraft running on the Xperia PLAY below.
