Xperia arc S also prone to cracks?

in Problems, Xperia arc

Xperia arc S crackSix months ago we reported on the issue that many Sony Ericsson Xperia arc users suffer from, namely cracks in the chassis. Our resident Xperia arc has the problem and many people thought that the newer Xperia arc S handset would be crack free. Up until now that has been the case with no reports of any problems from Xperia arc S users.

However, now at least one user has reported the crack on his white Xperia arc S. The crack manifests in the same place that hit the Xperia arc users i.e. near the proximity sensor. We didn’t think there would be any reason why the arc S wouldn’t have the same issues, after all the phone is exactly the same as the arc. As far as we know Sony Ericsson has made no official comment on this structural issue, despite it appearing to be a widespread problem (at least for arc users). We’ve got a quick poll to the Xperia arc S users below and just want to know whether you’re affected or not?

Xperia arc S users: Do you have any cracks on your handset?

How much of a structural issue is this, or is it more cosmetic?

  • Lackax

    My arc also!

  • jcc

i bought a white arc s two months ago and there’s no any crack yet.

  • Jenge

The silver sides of my Neo on the onside came out which I had to remedy with a small amount of superglue

  • Hisham

I’m a xperia arc user. Six months ago my arc wasn’t cracked, but now it is.
So, non-cracked arc s users, don’t be much happy, you will get the crack soon!

  • ZyxeLa

I have had Arc since March and it hasn’t crack on this place :)

Many people say that Xperia arc is the sexiest smartphone, so maybe when it’s cracked that means it has lost its virginity? Seriously though, I think Xperia ray is the best, it’s more solid due to aluminium. Hopefully, Sony Ericsson will take into account all that before announcing new handsets on 9th January.

  • QuickCommenter

I think they meant it’s a structural issue in that there must be stresses going through that point that the plastic can’t cope with.
(On the arc anyway) It seems purely cosmetic once it’s happened.

    I don’t have arc s but voted NO :D

My arc has (2) cracks on it. I just got my arc S so I am sure it will develop cracks. I don’t care because I get a new Xperia every six months anyway or the lifespan is about that.

  • Makkhay

if the crack shows up just because you touched your screen then yes we have a problem… but is if it cracked cause of out side pressure then come on… give se a break.  you can see that the phone is delicate, i have an M3 i wont get upset if total the car when i go off roading with it

  • Happyconsumer

No, although, i have my Arc S only one week. But I hope everything will be fine.

True that, i have an arc but i can say ray is feels more solid.
But the screen is way too small!(for me)
At least make it 3.5 inch.

  • cocky

    Sad to see this

Normally after how much usage or after how many months does the crack occur? If at all it is a structural issue.
If it happens due to improper use, you cant help it. I have an ARC s for one month now, and i am taking good care of it. So considering that i shouldnt get a crack unless it is a body issue.

  • bru

i have my Arc S  1 month and he cracked 2 days ago :(

  • Garry van Diggele

yep, however i use a phone as it should be used… it gets dropped and no cases. This having said i had the x10 and that went through a lot more and that never cracked. This is the issue with the phone being thinner and plastic is just not up to everyday use. If i buy a phone thats thin i am not going to bulk it up with protective cases.. Wont fit into the pocket any more.

The phone should be designed for everyday use, which simply means that it should be durable enough without cases. I.e. a thin phone will need to be made of magnesium alloys

  • cristian

I have a BLACK arc s for about a month; No crack for the time being. I’m using an official protection case though… What I’m afraid of is about the three lower buttons; They seem to be so fragile, as I’m using a little app called Button Savior for not touching them too often.

I have my SE Arc S for a couple of months now and I don’t have any cracks yet. But what I do have is that my display is getting loose at the top on the left. Does anyone else have this problem too?

The quality is not what it used to be :(

this is my only one and it affects the proximity sensor (screen stays black after call, light press on the sensor helps)
