SE ST25i KumquatOn our periodical trip to Picasaweb, we have found the first sample photo from the rumoured Sony (Ericsson) ST25i handset, codenamed Kumquat. There is just a solitary image of some parked cars in snow, which doesn’t reveal too much.

We don’t know a great deal about this handset, although we have been told it will come with a 3.5-inch display, 1GHz dual-core processor and 5MP camera. This could be the successor to the Xperia mini, although the screen size may be a bit too big to be a true successor. We’ll come back with more information as soon as we have it.

Looks okay for the most part, relatively decent amount of detail resolved for a cellphone camera with a lower end sensor + plastic lens =)

So, Xperia ray ST18 has 8 megapixels and now ST25 has only 5? Do they degrade?

It’s not the Ray’s successor, but the Mini’s.

Plus, once again, it’s not about the Megapixel count, but sensor size as well, which in cellphones, play a bigger role than the lenses in virtually 99% of the cellphones out there since most cellphones use plastic lenses anyway (save for the few rare ones using glass lenses).

If the area of the sensor allows it to have larger photodiodes due to a smaller megapixel count (provided the sensor is not proportionally smaller), pictures won’t turn ou as noisy overall.
