Unlocked Xperia NXT smartphones headed to the United States in Summer 2012

in Xperia ion, Xperia P, Xperia S, Xperia U

Xperia NXTThere has been little news regarding a US release for the upcoming Sony Xperia NXT series of smartphones. We know that the Xperia ion will be released on AT&T during Q2 2012, but that has been it regarding US-bound Xperia phones.

Well it looks like unlocked versions of the Xperia S, Xperia P and Xperia U will be heading to US shores. MobileBurn reports that these phones will be available at Sony stores and online from June/July. Sony still hasn’t given up hope on the phones appearing on a US carrier, but if not it plans to be “aggressive” over the distribution of these NXT handsets.

This is great news. It typically took Sony Ericsson 9 months to release the US versions of their Xperia lines. So it looks like things are getting better. Hopefully one day they will just release all versions at the same time. I still don’t think I can wait until June/July to get my S.

Is there anywhere where that picture of the 3 phones together is enlarged?

For the Xperia S and P, the “i” version already supports UMTS 850/900/1900/2100.  Is there a need to delay for creation of the “a” version?

By aggressive I hope they are not going to price these too high.

In some ares of the US you won’t get 3G speeds (internet) even with the quad bands. I have owned the X1i, X10i & arc i in NY and all I got was edge. Other than that the phones worked flawlessly. I always bought the international version because I did not want to wait a year for the US version. I do not think I will purchase the US version this time because you can basically get wifi everywhere now.

I tought Xperia S would come to US before April. I need it before April.

That is because the X10i and Lt15i do not support UMTS 850/1900 for 3G. Edge is all you can get with the import.  The difference this time is that the S (confirmed by FCC docs and boxshots) and the P supports the requisite 850/1900 3G bands so we can buy the imports if we want.

So it will come to Europe before or after the u.s.?

  • Rene Pedroso

Now that is AWESOME. I will have my S in a couple of weeks hopefully

actually, first time they announce a phone and say its a available this week (xperia s) that never happened before and you are right about the U.S. but if you can notice, the phones are the same, they all have all the frequencies, we don’t have that US only crap anymore… that’s so cool

yeah this international version has everything you need.  xperia s will be 3g in the U.S.

    im feeling a little deflated.
i really like having a spare battery / normal sim / 32gb sd card option.  but it seems the flagships from sony and htc wont have them.
but worse, sony dont have a S4 based phone in their range.  surely sony knew the chip roadmap, we all saw it. so where is the quadcore?

  • Anonymous

no, 3g will work in the US on att

  • Abc

Sooo i can has this on tmobiles 3G?

…Still waiting (very impatiently, I might add) for a proper release date announcement for the Xperia ion. I’m leaving to vacation by end of May and I NEED this phone before then. I’m crossing fingers that Sony will announce the release date within a month or two, otherwise I’ll give up on this model and just go for the Samsung phones instead.

And I just remembered that my contract expired 4 days ago… I’m ready to get a new phone now. Hurry the heck up, Sony!

That’s about the only thing I can think of if they are going to do an “a” version, which is to make it US t-mob compatible with 1700/2100.

I would prefer Sony get with the program and get pentaband radios in their phones, but I suppose the carriers normally don’t like that. :(

europe first BUT, the gap this year between europe and U.S. release is a bout a week not the usual 3 months

  • Andy

one question. i need to get xperia s on att to have internet?

  • antidrew

So to be clear, only the ION will run on ATT 4G LTE whereas the S, P and U will just get ATT 3G? Is that right??? I’m glad they added the SD card to the ION but why remove the transparent strip, it’s the signature feature to the whole line. Essentially I can have the best looking phone (S) at 3G or the worst looking (ION) at 4G… Great.

  • Aldnej

There’s still no news about them in US yet
