Android 4.1 Jelly BeanPerhaps we shouldn’t be looking too far ahead to the next major Android release especially as Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich has only just hit the Sony Xperia S. However, time stops for no one and with Google I/O on the horizon we should hopefully hear more details about the next major Android version soon.

Indeed it seems that the Google Play Store has prematurely revealed that this iteration will be called Android 4.1 Jelly Bean. The information was captured when a user tried to purchase a GSM Galaxy Nexus on the Google Play Store. The description had a message “…soon the first phone with Android 4.1 Jell…”, that message has now been removed. Google I/O kicks off next week on 27 June, so fingers crossed we’ll hear some official details on Jelly Bean soon.

Can easily be faked,, but I hope it’s true :)

Anyone know what features this will add?

So Jellybean will be to ICS what Eclair was to Froyo. No major improvement, other than increase in compatibility with new apps, and stability. This might be the version which will fall back to certain hardware management techniques of GB, so as to increase compatibility of GB apps. Especially the Games, which fail to run in ICS. Let’s hope for the best.

Android 4.1 Jell… could have meant ‘Jellied Eels’?!

As much as I loved Android, I just can’t avoid saying that “fragmentation continues” again and again. If only installing Android OS on a smartphone could be as easy as installing Ubuntu on a PC

I WOULD SMILE FOR VIDEO-CALLING OVER 3G LIKE IN OLD PHONES LOL, i dont understand why androids doesnt have this… even stinky iOS 6 added this over 3G!

True. I always think “why the company that is full of great programmers can’t made a simple update mechanism?”

well I know one thing for sure. Since the 2011 Xperia line will no longer receive further updates. Xperia S will be the first phone to receive this! Bring it on! But like others mentioned. 4.1 means not a big update at all
