CyanogenMod 9.0 (RC1) now available on four Xperia devices

in Firmware, Xperia active, Xperia mini and Xperia mini pro, Xperia PLAY, Xperia ray

CyanogenMod 9 (based on Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich) is getting closer to a formal ‘stable’ launch. The RC1 (release candidate) build has been announced, highlighting that the ‘core’ OS is now stabilised. Four Sony Xperia handsets have made the initial launch of CM9.0 (RC1) and this includes the Xperia PLAY (R800i and R800x), Xperia ray, Xperia mini and Xperia active.

This is especially good news for Xperia PLAY owners, since Sony Mobile is not planning on updating the handset past Android 2.3. This means owners can take matters into their own hands if they are truly longing for an ICS experience. For further details including download links for each handset click here.

  • IF Sony hasnt realesed the touchpads drivers, how can this rom be stable or fully functional on Xperia Play, i mean for gaming? I mean, i’m sure the rest of the system is ok, but what about touchpads and game compatiblity?

I flashed my Play with Cyanogen 9 RC1 today and to tell you that its very amazing. The games like Lets golf 2, Virtua Tennis, Inertia etc. which doesnt use the touchpads are absolutely smooth on this but on the other hands games like Dead Space, Shadowgun etc are not playable at all. For me touchpads are not important as I’m not used to play those shooters game but overall its a very good rom to try.

Please can some body teach or tutorial on how to install

  • I can confirm that it works on XPeria Play but: the dedicated controls are not suported with a native ID or something, as I cannot configure Asphalt 6 to work with them, although these buttons are working navigating through the menus. In Experiment 13, they are working as they should, but the games shows the onscreen controls too, so are not recognized on a system wide implementation level. I presume it lacks some Sony drivers or ID’s to work perfectly.
