New firmware was recently certified for the AT&T Xperia ion (LT28at) that suggests the Android 4.0.4 Ice Cream Sandwich update is due soon. Firmware version 6.1.C.0.355 was certified on the 6 July, a release would normally arrive around a fortnight after this, but we don’t know what checks AT&T need to do before release. The 6.1.X part of the firmware suggests that this is ICS firmware, over the 6.0.X Gingerbread firmware.

The international version of the Xperia ion (LT28i) is not on PTCRB yet so we cannot see whether ICS firmware is also certified for these devices. The HSPA+ Xperia ion (LT28h) launched with Android 4.0.4 out of the box.

  • O to the M to the G. It was originally supposed to be in October for the AT&T Ion but with this news, we could have it at the end of the month maybe ^_^

It could be any day now really, the software is probably completely ready.

I’m really really hoping that the Ion will get Jelly Bean someday….hopefully by the end of the fiscal year.

My XPS is in for repairs (yellow tint issue) so I picked up the ion from Sony Store online w/the SmartWatch for $180 Bundled. I updated the XPS to ICS and two weeks later shipped it out for repairs so I had very limited time with it. Would be great if the ion was updated soon.. I did love the new Walkman, Movies & Album apps as well as being able to watch my cable provider on my phone while on my network and videos over 2G in size. It’s really funny though, no one comes up to me and ask ”What software version are you running on your phone”. The question I always get is ”What phone is that”, ”Great Feel in the Hands”, ”Great Design”, ”That’s a Sony?”. Then I show them what it can do and they are always in awe. Love Sony, cannot wait to get my GX

Possibility of having ICS near or around August 17th now according to my source.

  • I’m sure it will, I can’t imagine Sony not giving it the update. It’s too new of a phone to not get it. Especially since it’s not a large update, just incremental. Plus Sony gives like 18 month’s of updates to it’s devices, so I’m sure the Ion will get it :D

I agree, everybody I know who saw me with this phone was amazed by it, besides software issue ( with I think is att issue not Sony fail) , only two real small issues the actual phone has, soft touch buttons and no light sensor with adjusts the brightness …

Your faith in it is good to see haha. I just don’t know how sales are doing in the US, so much rides on the success of the phone in America that I feel like if it doesn’t do well they may forget about supporting it past ICS
