The MIUI custom ROM that has been in a closed beta has been leaked over at xda-developers for the Sony Xperia S. The MIUI 2.7.6 ROM relates to Android 4.0.4 and will work for phones that have both unlocked and locked bootloaders, although you will need root access for the latter. For the most part, people are reporting that the ROM works pretty well.

A few people seem to have issues with data working and others find it difficult to move from the Chinese language setting to English or other languages (this can be done by editing the system/build.prop file). If you don’t find the Google Play Store, you can download it from the Chinese MIUI store or just flash GAPPS. It’s a great start and it should only got more polish once it is finally released. See a video of it in action below.

doesn’t work on rooted xperia s with locked bootloader. followed all instructions several times but no luck. fastboot wont recognise the device as rooted in flashmode. there can’t flash ics9 kernel…

  • I’m not even touching that with a stick. Had it on my Arc S and although the interface and other things were very likable, the performance of my phone went down the drain.

You answered your own problem. You can’t flash a kernel with locked bootloader

Thanks. it took me ages to realise that hehe. I was looking forward to it but the rom wasn’t to my taste. Flashed it with the stock ICS kernel. Was a smooth rom but I didn’t like the fact there was no menu and everything was on the homescreen.
