New ICS firmware (4.1.B.0.587) certified for six 2011 Xperia phones

by XB on 09/08/2012

in Firmware, Xperia active, Xperia arc, Xperia mini and Xperia mini pro, Xperia Neo, Xperia Pro

Good news for those of you running 2011 Sony Xperia handsets, Sony Mobile has just certified a new Android 4.0.4 firmware update for six handsets. The new firmware version number of 4.1.B.0.587 will replace the current 4.1.B.0.431 that brought Android 4.0.4 to the 2011 Xperia range.

The lucky six handsets include the Xperia active, Xperia arc, Xperia mini pro, Xperia neo, Xperia neo V and Xperia Pro. However, we’d expect this same firmware to hit all 2011 Xperia handsets bar the Xperia PLAY. Therefore, Xperia arc S, Xperia mini and Xperia ray users shouldn’t be up in arms just yet. The reason it is not showing yet is most likely down to a delay in the certification hitting the PTCRB website. We would imagine that this update will bring mainly bug fixes. We’ll bring you more information as we have it.

    Please let it be soon.

can somebody explain to me what special about this ”
certified ” for new firmware? can it fix all the issues, bugs, and lagging on 2011 xperia devices because of ICS?

  • Xlash Andraid

I’d rather to get JB, as I’ve been reading and watching value information about project butter. SONY engineers, don’t let fans down and show some capability.

  • Ambroos

Since this build is quite a bit older than the previous build I think you can expect numerous bugs to be fixed. Good news everyone!

    OH GLORY! LOVE YOU SONY!
Just because she was sad because the 4.0 does not run 100% as it was in 2.3, and you come with me to this beautiful news /

  • Ignatius J. Riley

Yeah, I hope it comes real quick and fixes all the issues (GPS not working, laggy telephone app with 10+ secs loading time, phone not hanging up sometimes when using touchscreen, no sms notification, no notifications on lockscreen etc…) – please SONY, make your 2011 device owners happy because they love your mobile phones.

  • PiXeLaDo@XDA

You can now fix it without using third party apps. However, it does require root access and CWM.

  • Ohred_hk

I am not really that happy with the current android 4 firmware with the Xperia pro. It is good to know they are working on a newer one already.

  • Cssf09

    And live with walkman? :(

  • Illyas Redzuan

Yay, of course, but will that mean we won’t get Jelly Bean, like the Samsung Galaxy S, which got a ‘Value Pack’? Is this new firmware just a ‘Value Pack’ for the 2011s?

well this is good for 2011 users like me. I hope it will fix bugs and telephone lag. Also there is that notification issue.

  • Hafiz Imtiaz

Good to know that they are not just yet abandoning the Xperia 2011 family. However, last time while getting the 4.1.B.0.431 update on my XMP, I got the update via SUS 6-7 days earlier than the certified date. I wonder when this new update will hit the Sony servers.

  • piersandro

What about 2012 models? When ICS for Xperia U will be released?

  • Andrew Daikos

How do i install the new firmware guys?

  • M Usman

  • Waleed2020

  • twent4

Has it been freezing up for you too? Had to roll y gf’s phone back to 2.3 because it had to be rebooted twice a day on ICS.

  • Are You serious?

Do you know that Sony Ericsson Live with Walkman really exist?!!

  • karan

    yes on 10 august
    4.1.B.0.587 also certified for
      wt19i

  • karan
  • Prime

    Hi guys,
    Looks like the new
4.1.B.0.587 firmware also has been certified by PTCRB  for ST18i Xperia ray.
    Yeay!

    http://www.ptcrb.com/vendor/complete/view_complete_request_guest.cfm?modelid=19711

  • Are You serious? (bis)

Ok, I know, and I thanks for the incoming update, but is it possible that WT19i Live with Walkman is always ignored in any communication or OFFICIAL initiative? Among the other, WT19i is the newest mobile in 2011 line-up and does not deserve a word? It is the only smartphone that does not have a “room” on the forum OFFICIAL Sony! (talk.sonymobile.com)
    Is this normal?!

By the way, thank you karan for your attention..

Finally! I was reluctantly thinking about rooting and getting on to a ROM for my Arc S the other day because of all the bugs of ICS. Hopefully this update will iron out a lot of problems and change my mind.

I’ve been running it on my arc S for 24 hours. MUCH smoother then previous releases, looks like they’ve supercharged the Phone/Messaging/Contacts apps so they start faster. The video camera is smoother too – very little stutter now. The Calendar widget now shows all-day events and doesn’t flicker as much. There is also a new “Auto IP Support” option in the Advanced Wi-Fi settings that allows you to assign an IP if DHCP fails. Gaming seems smoother too. There was a horrible issue with Temple Run where the accelerometer would stop working but this has gone. So it’s a pretty good release and I think I’ll be sticking with it for a while. Oh, there is also a new baseband (77) which seems to find a signal much faster then previous versions (like when you reboot your device for example). SMS notification light still broken though!

  • Raghavendra

when it was avilable for xperia mini st15i

  • http://twitter.com/seniorsitizen RT

Well, I guess whatever that build fixes, it’s not available for the mt11a, xperia neo V. I’m waiting for it before I send my phone back on a service ticket to reboot 2.3. Still have a couple of weeks before the ticket expires.

  • IsabelR

Is anyone else having problems with missing apps. For instance, screen shot and sound recorder. I’m getting more and more disappointed by Sony with this Apple-like nonsense. You give us these apps with the phone but as soon as an update comes out, you taketh away.

  • Arjun loves XPERIA

Wow!! What a great news.!! Then how can I update my XPERIA Mini Pro with this fixed update?! I want to fix the bugs of my phpne now!!

  • Roy

Still not available in Brazil. SIM free LT15i, generic rom.
