Android 4.0.4 ICS firmware certified for Xperia go, Xperia sola and Xperia U

The Android 4.0.4 Ice Cream Sandwich firmware started to roll out for the Sony Xperia P a week ago and it looks like the update for the other NovaThor chipset-based Xperia handsets won’t be too far behind. The Sony Xperia go, Xperia sola and Xperia U have all had firmware version 6.1.B.0.544 certified by the PTCRB.

This is the same ICS firmware that is currently rolling out to Xperia P handsets. It’s tricky to work out when exactly the firmware will actually be available, but a fortnight is normally a good rule of thumb. This doesn’t always work however as sometimes the firmware is released even before we see it pop up on the PTCRB website. Sony Mobile committed to a Q3 release for the Xperia U so as we approach September, it shouldn’t be a surprise to see it be released in the next few weeks.

Sometimes I have to laugh at some people who post on sites like this and I couldn’t care less whether people agree with me or not but the fact is that Sony, in certain areas, suck. Now i’ve seen the fanboys post shit about how everybody should be greatful that Sony are even updating their devices, hmmm, now I should be grateful to get an update for a device merely a year old!! … Anyway, that’s a seperate issue, the major issue is how shit Sony are with updates, for example, they bring out an updated version of ICS after several months yet they still can’t fix the sms bug that afflicts devices. This for me is unforgivable because after months of changing and supposedly fixing bugs they have released an updated version of ICS which brings pretty much no improvements to the table.

The fact is that Sony clearly haven’t even addressed the issue because they only have to send 1 text message to a device to see it still doesn’t work but they didn’t … You guys can kiss their ass as much as you want but when I buy a device I expect it to work properly and not be fobbed off with hollow updates that don’t even address ongoing issues !!!

Hello! Will the upgrade Sony Ericsson Xperia neo V to Android 4.1?Sony Xperia U? It is very important to me, because I can not choose the phone. Thanks in advance :)

Bro, no other manufacturer is launching or updating devices at the same price range…I am thankful to Sony for not dumping people who bought phones worth 200-300$ like other manufacturers who just trick people.

They are trying to rebuild their image & gain trust back from users that went down nuked after the X10 gingerbread update fiasco

other manufactures don’t trick people. they just concentrate on their higher end offerings. Sony chooses to release so many similar devices. Why do they need so many flagships, so many mid rangers and so many low enders.
Too many phones. Their resources spread so thinly that none of their devices gets adequate support. It’s all late and buggy.
This strategy of releasing smartphones like they were feature phones will get them no where. They need to consolidate their efforts on a few and make them the best they can possibly be. Not by releasing so many phones for so many different markets with absolutely none of them trouble free or even anything remotely close to that.
Be very careful you fellas about Sony ICS, It’s plagued with issues. 2011 owners and xperia s owners will tell you that. I know I have an xperia s with ICS and it’s the buggiest software I’ve seen from them to date so be weary. Stick to gingerbread is my opinion.

I using xperia u and very happy on gingerbread version. I see ICS on my friends’ HTC Desire. It is very laggy. I think, ICS will need 1 GB RAM. So I am consider to wait reviews ICS on my U, Before upgrading my device.

at around $250 for the sola – there’s nothing coming close to it. I think sony is doing a swell job at product differentiation, unlike nokia. nokia 610/ 710 are crappy in some ways or the other
