Leaked NTT DoCoMo roadmap points to upcoming Xperia Nexus?

in Rumours

There have been a number of rumours this year that Google may be planning to release more than one Nexus device in celebration of the five-year anniversary of Android. These rumours intensified this week when a leaked roadmap for Japanese operator NTT DoCoMo appeared to suggest several Nexus devices are planned from LG, Samsung and Sony.

The Sony Xperia Nexus (SO-04E) appears on this roadmap. If true, it would represent a watershed moment for the Android community. However, given the recent news of Google looking to add the Sony Xperia S to its list of phones for direct AOSP support, the existence of a Xperia Nexus device may not be such a farfetched idea. Despite this, we would treat this firmly as a rumour for now as there has been very little evidence of such a device so far.

Thanks to all that sent this in!

I think its good news and hope this happens. We can always opt for many Sony LG or Samsung devices with their custom ui’s but having a stock experience from the brand you love most is an added bonus. I think its great having this option

  • Finally!!!
Just hoping it will be available in the market some time soon………

  • dereknobuyuki

Wow… All Fujitsu and Toshiba models will be waterproof!
If this comes to pass, too bad the Sony Xperia Nexus won’t

    SO-03E?Xperia Tablet?Xi??????
    SO-04E?Xperia NEXUS?Xi?NEXT?NFC?TypeA/B/C?
    SO-05E?Xperia Walk?FOMA?With?NFC(TypeA/B/C)?Walkman?????

Xperia Kei comes in a LTE version (SO-01E) and a waterproof HSPA version (SO-02E)
The Xperia NEXUS SO-04E is LTE but not waterproof

The Xperia Walk is waterproof, not LTE, but has all that walkman goodness.

This begs the question, why can’t we have LTE and waterproofing in the same device from Sony.
NEC, Panasonic, Fujitsu, Toshiba, Sharp, and LG all have devices that are both waterproof and LTE.

Currently, Fujitsu has the only real quad core device on this carrier with the world’s first Tegra3 phone shown off last January but this new line up has a big mix of Dual core and Quad core devices from many different makers. Somehow, I have absolutely no problem with Sony not having any quad core devices in this line up.

  • AlexBurnout

Wow, amazing! Thumbs up if you want Google to make a Xperia Nexus. Oh, my… please implement a great Dual-core and a massive battery, like over 2500mAh! :D

  • I’ve read on an Android forum that this list is just a “wish-list” of what Docomo could have in their line-up this winter and sadly some Asian sites took that list for real. 2 moth till November the 5th and there are no leaks about those several Nexus devices, which is kinda strange if we take the rumors as true. Just take a look at the Nexus 7 tablet and the rumors which started to pop around several month before announcement and that was just one device from just one manufacturer!
Beside this, the leaked Docomo roadmap also mentioned a Samsung Galaxy S3 Plus. Seriously?! A S3 PLUS? This is just one more indication of the roadmap being fake.

  • Currently, Xperia is made in China by Foxconn, which may not have the best knowledge on assembling an all-in-one smartphone for the Japanese market and limit Sony Mobile’s ambitions in that regard. Perhaps Sony Mobile needs to consider moving production back home in order to have a higher degree of control over the manufacturing process and better compete in the domestic market.

  • LG and Samsung both already had something with Google… So they should really screw off for this year….

  • Sami

they did an upgrade on S2 so why not an upgrade on the s3?

  • which upgrade do you mean? there is still no SGS PLUS, just rumors. And the S3 was just released and is selling more than well, so why an upgrade now? But I hope I am wrong and the roadmap is true, cause Xperia Nexus would be an overkill! :)

  • Sami

i mean S2 LTE and the s3 PLUS would be the same

  • Mehdi Solamannejad

Sony did as well. Remember Google TV ?

  • prakash

    finally my wait is over

  • There is already an LTE Version of the S3 (Exynos Quad and dual core S4 Krait). And a Plus in the name indicates a significant hardware bump, like higher clocked cpu, better camera or higher resolution display. At this point a S3 Plus makes no sense.

One can’t really trust 2ch forums 100%… We just take it with a grain of salt and just use the content as the base for discussion and speculate about future devices and ask questions yo encourage discussion.

softbanksucks site ( aka Japan mobile tech) took a look.at the rumours and found that they couldn’t confirm it was anything more than speculation on 2ch. Makes for interesting discussion though.

  • dereknobuyuki

    If it was unclear,

2ch is the Japanese language version of 4Chan forums.

the rumours and supposed roadmap leak were done there in this case.

  • dereknobuyuki

Just for the record since the galaxy s3 differs from market to market:

Docomo’s GS3 is Japan specific with S4 SoC that already supports LTE, supports 1seg TV, and has 2GB of ram.

The only upgrade it needs at this point is industrial design and an option to turn off touchwiz just like how you can turn off the Docomo skin. That would either be not feasible or not require a whole new device.

it would be interesting if they made and HSPA version for people who don’t want to pay more for LTE when they live outside an LTE service area.

  • Xperia

    a quad-core will be more competitive :D

  • SONY lover since the ’80s, when I had a mullet.

  • referring to smartphones :/

  • dereknobuyuki

incidentally, docomo announced today some new devices for their autumn/winter line up including a Galaxy Tab 7.7 plus…
The plus seems to add things like support for both 1-seg (digital terrestrial broadcast tuner) and nottv (another type of terrestrial broadcast tuner)

If there is any “plus” in the future and rumours come true, then perhaps it could mean the GS3 Plus could add nottv support and perhaps broader NFC support than just Sony FeliCa support.

  • AlexBurnout

It WOULD, but unfortunately Sony is smart and puts power efficient Dual-core processors unlike stupid Sammy. Conclusion: with stupidity by putting Quad-cores which people think are better than Dual-cores… I mean, I don’t think Miss Princess with a large wallet will want a Dual-core, awesome power efficient Sony smartphone with Green Heart… no, a S III is better, it has a huge screen to scratch with her large nails. Wow, people are ignorant these days.

  • XCMeathead

    What did LG have?

  • YusufIslam

Son, you need to u know who are doing the best right now in the mobile industry on CPUs and by fact it’s Qualcomm with their snapdragons and Samsung with their Exynos. Wow, people are so ignorant these days

  • AlexBurnout

    UMAD son?

  • YusufIslam

Exynos 5 dual core A15 snm. There is also a good reason why apple chooses Samsung to manufacture their CPU…

  • AlexBurnout

    LoL at Samsuck ass
