IFA 2012 – What to expect from Sony Mobile

by XB on 28th August 2012

in Rumours, Xperia J, Xperia T, Xperia V

Sony Mobile’s IFA 2012 press conference will be over by this time tomorrow. Hopefully, we’ll learn a bit more about how the company’s mobile strategy is developing and, of course, we expect to see a few more additions to the 2012 Sony Xperia smartphone line-up as well as at least one new Sony Android tablet.

Apart from hardware, we are hoping that Sony Mobile will give some definitive news on which smartphones will receive the Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update. Whilst we expect most of the 2012 line-up to be updated, question marks remain over whether the 2011 Xperia range will see Jelly Bean.

Xperia fans won’t need to miss a thing as the conference will be streamed live. It will take place at 15.00 BST (16.00 CET) on Wednesday 29 August, so mark the date/time in your diaries if you want to catch the conference live. If not, we’ll also be posting all of the key developments on the blog including new hardware as well as any new information on Sony’s smartphone strategy.

  • christo

    Xperia JLo (mini arc)

  • Someone over at esato.com’s forums (a Sony insider, I guess) said Tsubasa won’t make an appearance at IFA. Since not much info about Tsubasa has been leaked through the web, it seems that he is right.

  • lovebmw

    z phone?

  • pls when will they understand we want a 4.0′ 720p with qualcomm S4 and 2gb ram + 13mpx exmor rs and 3Mpx front face camera and 3000mah battery

All right kiddo, they would ask you: will you pay around $1,500 US dollars for it?

  • faysal

you guys forgot the sony vaio duo 11 which was leaked on pocketnow.com

  • Karan

I don’t get the difference between Xperia mint and Xperia TX…. Read on some of the pages tht Xperia MIT would be supporting a 4.3 inch screen size targeting the emerging markets…..

I really hope they announce the Xperia TX looking fwd to getting tht phone.

  • Karan

Xperia mint and Xperia TX are the same exact specs … Was reading on some sites that Xperia Mint would support a 4.3 inch screen …

I really hope they realise the Xperia TX internationally tomorrow for a sept or oct release…

Perfect phone to give competition the iPhone n s3

  • lovebmw

take a look at the LG g then

  • Still waiting for an updated Xperia QWERTY (Xperia Play/Pro 2).. Playing games and Inaccurate Texting/Typing while covering a part of the screen with your fingers is shitty.. Just map the keys to the keyboard/gamepad and you’ll enjoy the graphics game developers worked hard for.. =D

  • XperiaBlog

We did see this yesterday, but we’re not sure if we should start covering Vaio tablets/convertibles, especially as this is a 11-inch model. Not sure how much appettite there is to extend coverage to these type of devices that border on ultrabook/laptop territory?

  • goldenblls

Is the only difference between Hayabusa and Mint the removable battery and the design? Has Mint been seen in any other colours?

  • ipatz

    I though Xperia T is 4.3″

  • thefaze

Please Sony, make T or TX available on Verizon.

  • Ambroos

He’s not right, Tsubasa -will- be at IFA.

  • Mohamed Habib

  • I wait for the xperia J announcement
So i can be choose which phone will i buy, miro or J?
    Come on hurry up

  • thiru

I hope Sony ill release sx international and 3.5 screen with latest novathour chip set.

  • spatch

I’d like to see Sony launch a new Xperia S tablet, but maybe no more new phones for 2012. What have we seen — 12 handsets already this year? Enough already! They should be concentrating on no more than 3 high-end phones & 3 low-end phones, then work to have these all upgraded to Jelly Bean by no later then October 2012.

Look after your loyal customers, then start designing the new 2013 Xperia range to announce at CES next year. I don’t need to see 4 new handsets announced next week that have better specs than the Xperia S — that’s a slap in the face to the Sony faithful.

  • Xperia J is JLo…LOL

  • foggyflute

yeah, I want to see SX too, I’m Ray now, the U’s camera is not good enough for me.

  • DragonClaw

And it is not Xperia as it is not Android. Seems like Sony has long forgotten that the first Xperia Phone was running the Windows Platform.

  • Yeah! Xperia SX!! .. that beautiful monster i’ve been waiting for so long

  • Xperia SX please!!

  • bangladesh

wtf is verizon ? kind a new planet or what ?

  • i’m GAMER

we all knows before that those phones are coming

*************************surely , the surprise is XPERIA PLAY 2 ************************

  • DragonClaw

    How do you know?

  • I want to replace my XPERIA Ray with Better one. Confused between XPERIA Ion, XPERIA Acro S. or should i wait for Hayabusa or Mint?

  • ION is good but I think the best phone would be a 4′, not above

  • lol u serious ?

  • Mark dizz

Whatever they release I sure as hell hope it is PENTABAND!!!! Why they have never had love for TMobile USA!!! I’d run either the P or the S right now if it were pentaband. Had the S on AT&T after having the LTE speeds on the ONE X, I had to return the S because data was too slow on 3G.

I’d want a 4-4.3″ pentaband phone. And if I cant have that then at least give me LTE. The Ion has LTE but it is one UGLY phone that looks all patched together with all the seams visible on it.

Oh, and wouldn’t hurt to make a white magic screen across the board, at least on their S4 chipped phones.

  • Tohar Lalua

Xperia SL with Jelly Bean, quite a mouthful isin’t it??? :D

  • Frauhlein

    Mint is 4.6, period

  • Frauhlein

    LT30p will be pentaband.

  • frauhlein

Sony killed play, they don’t want to cannibalize on vita. They just removed the ps1 games, you do the math

  • what if the sony xperia nexus is the new xperia play.. and it received updates str8 from google … is this a dream

  • DS

new Xperia Play with 5.6″ oled display

  • Toni

    XPERIA + Vita OS

  • lovebmw

true, but because its a thinner frame, not a bigger phone

  • lovebmw

it did not die down, its just people are satisfied with ICS, JB is a plus for sure, but its not a must for now…. when had the x10 with android 1.6 and wanted 2.1 that was a disaster need…. but for now everyone is happy with ICS.

  • Only Xperia T, V and J. No Xperia TX (GX) announced in the conference. I am Really disappointed !!
