Sony has just unveiled the Xperia V (LT25i) at IFA 2012 and it was the best-kept secret out of all of the devices announced today, having seen very few leaks in terms of specs and design. The Sony Xperia V sports a 4.3-inch (720 x 1280) display and will run the Snapdragon S4 MSM8960 chipset (1.5Ghz dual-core and Adreno 225 GPU). It has 1GB RAM, 8GB internal memory (1.2 GB of firmware, 2 GB of phone memory and 3.7 GB for media) with microSD memory card support.

It will come with a 13MP Exmor R camera capable of shooting 1080p video and a VGA front camera. This particular version (LT25i) will have LTE, but we understand that a HSPA+ version (LT25h) will also appear at some point. Other features include a removable 1750mAh battery, micro-sim, NFC, MHL and PlayStation Certification. The handset will come in black, white and pink colours. It weighs just 120g and has reasonably svelte dimensions (129 x 65 x 10.7 mm). The handset will launch globally in calendar Q4 2012.

  • wow best water resistant device ever !

  • Does it come with a glowing logo :( ?

  • naathaanS

“Cue the battery whore complaining about small battery”

  • Xperia V is the real flagship device :)

  • the design …..
    ahhh .. i want one !

  • Dacha

Very nice phone. The only downside is the 1750 mAh battery.

  • goldenblls

Thank you Sony for my dream Phone. Perfect.

  • Typo at par 1, ”
Xperia J sports a 4.3-inch…” Anyway, this was a real shocker! Is this the one with the new LCD tech from Sony? The in-touch panel, if I remember it right?

  • pstamou

  • pstamou

  • RamyRamzzz

This has an S4 chip which is much more battery efficient :) You can expect battery life as good as a One X from this phone.

  • Aaron_R96

XB, you said ‘The Xperia J sports a 4.3″ screen’ etc etc.. Think you mean ‘V’ easily done!

  • .cj

… no camera button on the J and V? FU sony

  • swagat

where is the tx and sx ?

  • swagat

v is look like younger brother of tx…….

  • +1

  • Grishm

I’m surprised how Sony had managed to keep this phone(Xperia V) under wraps without a single leak. On the flip side, the specs’ sheet of this phone hardly inspires any surprise.

  • Dacha

We in the US always get the short end of the stick. This phone will not work with AT&T. :(

  • FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU =( only bad new =(

  • I think 399$

  • Now this is the One!!

  • dereknobuyuki

IPX5/IPX7 water protection is always a plus to any device.
I hope more and more Xperia devices will have it (but without requiring opening any flaps to charge it… because that’s just silly when all their water protected rivals just use metal contact points with a dock)

  • pstamou

    Nooo :( A lot money, I think

  • dereknobuyuki

I’d expect it to be around the same as the Xperia GX…. which is sufficient but leaves you wanting a bigger battery for piece of mind when you have a long day… or a day when you are out using GPS, maps, navigation, and uploading photos.

RamyRamzzz, who I agree with, compared it to the One X which got decent (Read: sufficient) battery reviews.
Seems like that’s a good comparison though since the One X has a slightly bigger battery but a larger screen. In the end, it may all come down to how well the Xperia V device is optimized.

  • Kaostheory

I’m confused the T is the flagship yet the V is lighter with better specs? :-s

  • afzal

  • Adrian

Wow! Seems great, I really want this phone! S4, water resistant, and not too big screen. Perfect modell. Any info about the screen, any new tech?

  • ugly design

  • mk13
  • lovebmw

they just have to to make a bobo somewhere, no camera botton, no money

  • Wow they removed that Sony Ericsson green ball logo :O

  • lovebmw

so no NFC and no camera button?

  • lovebmw

    oops wrong page

  • Xlash Andraid

Uh-oh, high rated photographers cry because no dedicated camera button, yeah SONY you suck because you didn’t make a camera with phone functions instead.

  • CMIIW but in the video it said to have mobile bravia engine 2 which the Xperia T doesn’t have, or rather not clear, does this mean the Xperia V will have better display ?

  • Sonythetop

Front-facing Camera Is VGA……..:( but the other feather is super :D

  • Feanor

This is the most beautiful and coherent arc-style design from Sony. It’s like taking the arc and making it look more qualitative. Only downside is that the metallic chamfered frame brings it quite close to iphone (sssh, don’t tell Apple).
I think the ommision of the camera button and the VGA front camera were only to differentiate it from the T. Both are quite severe shortcomings to me. I think these two models could have been nicely merged into one. I am not sure why Sony chose to release both because I cannot see big differentiations that would have them target different buyers.

  • do you guys know what i just realized ?! once Sony removed the green orb in Xperia V they added knew features that non of the devices with green orb have … even Xperia T !
like Mobile BRAVIA® Engine 2 , ClearAudio+ sound ,HDR (High Dynamic Range) imaging , Superior Auto scene capture and Bluetooth™ 4.0 ! which none of device from Sony (Ericsson) have … i really don’t know why they didn’t made this device to be their Flagship ?!

  • Mark Walsh

Doubt were going to see a uk launch on this and with the T being a sealed battery i see no real reason to shop my xperia s in for this. I may instead opt for samsungs note 2

  • TjaldidTjaldid

perhaps you can use the arrow buttons?

  • TjaldidTjaldid

not sure if ClearAudio+ is included but i would like to hear more about Bravia Engine 2

  • lovebmw

no, dont be shocked we are used to SONY to disappoint. the dispointment is not that its missing a huge deal of features…. its just a tiny simple detail such as a camera button which makes a huge difference tends to be missing.

and believe me, imagine they are setting on the table deciding on what they will do next…. one says OMG take the camera button of no one uses it….. BS…. this is what happened

we will issue to similar phones one with the button and the other is without…. that way customers will be torn apart between the two… and if one buys one of them, he will have to buy the other one just so he can try the new changes. the demand for T would have been less had the V had a camera button.

    it’s an evil tactic

  • but it has no camera button, almost perfect =(

  • Where’s AMOLED display of 4’3 ???

  • pegel

” Only down side is that the metallic chamfered frame brings it quite close to iphone (sssh, don’t tell Apple) ”
I don’t think so,, the metallic side frame is actually not look like iphone ,, its look like my old SE K750i phone who was use design frame like this too, but only different in colour and material (full plastic),
so I think the iphone metallic side frame is quite close to SE K750i :P
If apple will sue this phone with identic or copycat metallic side frame, just bring the old SE K750i design from 2006 phone who have the same frame side design like iphone, and they will be silent LOL :P

  • Tohar Lalua

Huuuuuurrrrrrrrrrraaaaaaaaaaa…this phone is something…I guess it will beat Xperia T handsdown in sale….Tohar Lalua is very happy and now wants this as his new phone instead of unannounced Xperia SL at the event…. when is this phone getting launcehd???

  • TjaldidTjaldid

still I wish it had WhiteMagic, Bigger Battery, Camera Button and at least 16GB

  • .cj

… maybe you are right. It is like a child game …
… look at the phone, and find the missing feature …

… with camera button this would be the phone i was waiting for, after seeing 20 phones of sony the last 12 month with camera button, this …

    … sonyericsson = sonysilly now

  • Tzereen

    Why T, why TX?
Why V without shutter, without HDMI?
Why does Sony keep on doing this. Omitting something from every model.
Common!! Release 3 models, low, mid and high end.
And put everything you can onto high end model, make design like Xperia V and it will outsell all the galaxies, and maybe even iphones.

  • naathaanS

    MHL is the HDMI

  • Epic Sony..Now i totally confused which model i wan buy.Xperia V or Xperia Acro s XD

  • Tohar Lalua

It also has a newer S4 chip than Xperia T and to better it, is also water and dust proof….I hope its also cheaper than Xperia T :P

  • arcwindz

Is it just me or is this phone is the best phone out of the 3 new phones

  • Tohar Lalua

Hahaha…u r right…apparentely sony were so late in launching there so called flagship model that there own midrange phone started beating them in specifications LOL :P

  • arcwindz

Simply the best, and i wonder why SONY bothers to release acro s before

  • i’m GAMER

where is our XPERIA PLAY2 :(

  • Coolkid

U sir, jus read my mind… I was about to say it… But VGA front-cam and no shutter key things are irritating me a little bit…!!!

  • Aplpe itself told at court (vs samsung) that they got inspiration from sony forr this one

  • same for me, if it hada camera button it would be the phone im waiting for since my xperia X1

  • I hope not

  • Sony says the V will go from sleep to snap in less than a second. I hope that means one of the hardware buttons – maybe the volume rocker – doubles as a camera shutter button. Will have to wait and see.

  • I know what you mean but the J is both smaller and thinner yet it has the same size battery. I wish Sony had squeezed the 1850mAH battery from the T in the V. I guess Sony are happy to just provide average battery life and to rely more on design and camera sensor to differentiate themselves.

  • Yoda

Na’a, the sleep to snap , as seen on the video , is when you power up the device and you have to slide to unlock but the reverse slide is the camera slide and it will unlike the SXS that goes to camera mode and do nothing , this will make a picture in an instant.

  • naathaanS

How much battery do you people use? I have wifi turn on all day, play games, browse the internet on my Xperia arc and it is still able to last a day

  • 02s

wheres the 3.5 mm audio jack? I don’t see it on the pictures on the top or the sides.

  • Supriyo

There is Sleep to snap within an second. so there ought to be a hardware button for the camera

  • Yeah I see what you mean now – the camera slide takes a shot straight away. Good spot. Smart idea from Sony there.

  • You can never have too much battery life. :)

  • Rune Christiansen

    In your butt ;)

  • Supriyo

Just now realized from the video above, that sleep to snap will be by sliding the camera icon on the lock screen. So there would not be any hardware button:-(

  • Feanor

Wow, you’re so right, I had completely forgotten about the K750! So true! I’m gonna tell to all the iPhone fanboys that their phone is a copy of a Sony Ericsson. :-D

  • Jame.H

Does this have Exmor RS technology, if so i might get this over the TX or T..
