New firmware (6.1.A.2.55) available for the Xperia S

by XB on 17th November 2012

in Firmware, Xperia S

Some new firmware has started rolling out for the Sony Xperia S (LT26i). Firmware version 6.1.A.2.55 has not appeared on the PTCRB website so far, but despite this it is now available to download in Singapore. Changes over the current firmware version (6.1.A.2.50) are unknown right now, although it does seem to be using a new baseband. This Android 4.0.4 ICS version cannot be rooted either using the existing root method from Bin4ry over at XDA.

Thanks Akshay & LiveSquare!

  • Felipe Pimenta

I think the latest fimware version was 6.1.A.2.50, not .45. It may be a regional update (dunno), but it was way better than .45

  • I also just received a new 6a update for the Xperia S tablet. It is supposed to fix a VPN issue

  • XperiaBlog

    You’re right – article updated! :)

  • flodraft

    yes, me too! ^^

  • ismailchenko gasmi

I’m still stuck with this buggy 6.1.A.2.45 firmware and my pc compainon says that i’m up to date !!

  • Alex Ferdean

After tasting CM10, I’m not coming back to stock until official JB. The main reason to come back is the stock camera and Bravia Engine.

  • matej

    me too :S

  • Felipe Pimenta

Download .50/.55 and install it with Flashtool.

  • adsada_arc

can anyone updates comment on improvements?

  • Costa

  • Costa

    I recommend 2.50 .very tested

  • Costa

  • STIG

  • ismailchenko gasmi

    What is SG?

  • Will installing new firmware with flashtool do anything to stock android / rooting issue though? I’ve only used flashtool with rooting and installing new kernels onto my previous phone, I’m not ready too root my phone just as yet.

  • Costa

  • roselan

get a flash tool and flash into another country will get update

  • M Usman

updated xperia S using flashtool. still buggy. not as snappy as i’d wished it to be. will see if there are any improvements over the course of tomorrow.

  • Felipe Pimenta

It is just the “manual” thing that Pc Companion does. Install the firmware. Nothing else.

  • Chong Benedict

Just being prompt that this firmware is available for update, will update later and see the difference.

  • Chee Siong Lee

Theres nothing in Singapore. Cannot update

  • nothing spectacular den ull lose root not intrested…………………xperia t gets the goodies were stil getting bug fixes

  • Avery Navas

bravia engine only… stock camera kinda sucks…

  • Alex Ferdean

on cm10 I actually miss that stock camera. I use generic jb one now, but it kinda lacks some settings, like iso, focus type and other. I tried Camera FV-5, LG Camera, but they are not build well for SXS and they lack features (iso not working and others)

  • Alex Ferdean

after unlocking bootloader, i’m not sure if BE will work again ever! but who knows.

  • Alex Ferdean

installing .55 will prevent you from rooting, from what I know. So if you want to root, mb wait a bit on .50

  • Siegfred Vallestero

    have you tried it?

  • bombay

Am in UK as well and an still on .453. I checked the upgrade yesterday and it said I had the latest software? Anyone know why this is

  • AA

I’m stuck in .45 update. I’m in USA.

  • ron

I’ve got the xxx.50 version and it runs fast, smooth and battery life is better than the older vesion of firmware. I just hope this new firmware xxx.55 will fix the camera issue and there are instances also that the proximity sensor is not working properly.

  • Sagar

Not available in India yet, will have to wait for a couple of days I guess.

  • Felipe Pimenta
  • thanks alot, but this is for italy right ??

  • man

(This is SMALL updat), The ONE before Jellybean!
    no changes.

  • There is no update in my country, Indonesia. I’m still stuck on .45 and many bug on it (camera, not responding home screen, force close any apps, camera focus problem, etc). I wish this .55 will fix any bugs in my lovely Xperia S.

  • Avery Navas

I want to try CM10 , but only two things keep me from doing so, first the multimedia apps, is tehre a way to install them on CM10? and second (least important because I’ve heard good news) is it stable enough for dayli use?

  • AlexBurnout

I have Cyanogen Mod 10 with Android 4.1.2! HA!

  • ismailchenko gasmi

and what’s so special about it ?

  • AlexBurnout

It’s much more smoother than stock and plus it’s vanilla

  • Felipe Pimenta

Only if you let the option “Wipe data” enabled. Sorry for late replies, I don’t check here all the time :P

  • Andrew D

Im in Germnay and still have 2.45…..I still don’t have the .50 !
Whats going on Sony? Is the Xperia S outta date already?
    Comon….. It ain’t fair…

  • would’ve been nice if this was jelly bean. While Samsung Galaxy S3 is already on jelly bean we’re still waiting.

  • Anyone can solve my problem? I need help. I got stuck to enter flashmood. I read the instruction says, to enter flashmood by holding Power button and Volume down button at the same time. But, I still cant to flashmood. My phone just woke up when I followed that instruction. Or, by pressing POWER and UP button together?

    Thanks before.

  • Guys, problem solved. Now, my Xperia S running .55 build number. I don’t know yet what’s the new thing bring by this new firmware.

  • amirkulet

Still no update of .55 here in philippines. Who had already download it from philippines?

  • Teng How Lai

Hey Alex, what’s the thing that isn’t worked with Xperia S Cyanogen? During flashing, will my data lost? If it’s working perfectly, I must switch to it as well! And for future Cyanogen update, is that mean we have to flash the phone again?

  • Bombay, you have to try to download .55 firmware manually on and flash via flash tool. I already done with this new fw.

  • its alright, thanks alot my friend

  • ron

I’ve already been using firmware xxx.50 and it works fast, smooth and battery life is even better compared to older firmware. I just hope this latest firmware xxx.55 will fix the camera issue and the proximity sensor because there are instances that the proximity sensor is not working properly.

  • Serdar Aytamaner

  • spiderpig

  • chandru155

I rooted my Xperia S. Can I update using PC Companion or Do I have to manually flash it?

  • Life battery is better than .45 firmware.

  • you can do both…

  • bombay

ok thank you for the info, do you know what new stuff it brings ?

  • Fraulein

These small version changes are almost always regional operator specific requirements and fixes. Don’t worry if you don’t get it, you’re not missing anything important.

  • Fraulein

Vanilla Android = AOSP. CyanogenMod is not considered vanilla.

  • not released yet in Egypt my FW .50

  • I know yet. But, I think battery has improvement. I can use my Xperia for 17 hours. And, now my Xperia very smooth, no lag and buggy anymore. I’ll inform you asap if I know another new stuff.

  • angelfj

En la operadora claro Perú es un abuso total mi xperia S aún corre con android 2.3.7. ….

  • Teng How Lai

I am very happy to be Xperia S owner, as far as I know of, we always have most comments for Xperia S posts! Haha….

  • gill

got the update thru pc companion yesterday in Malaysia. Things getting smooth. Quick launch issue fixed. And so do the camera focus.

  • AlexBurnout

Yeah bro you must wipe your data, twice actually. First when unlocking bootloader and when installing CM10. It’s easy, ask me anythink about it.

  • aeROboneZ

You guys mad. I’m from Malaysia too using the latest firmware. You guys don’t have sense of Google at all? Zzz just go type how to manually update the xperia s to ics latest build and you’ll have the methods with by downloading the official flash tool from Sony and flash the official firmware. If it’s too hard then stay on what you are using.

  • edward

no no..i’m malaysia user too bt not getting any update… >.<

  • Dung Le

This update fixed Quick launch camera problem for sure.

  • Hakan

    In Turkey(Turkiye) and still have 2.45.. I still don’t have the 2.50 and 2.55 !

Ukraine, still have 2.50 with QuickShot issue

  • bombay

    thank you

  • OJ

Got my .55 update through flashtool. thanks to the people who shared about this great tool. tried it for the first time yesterday and everything’s fine for now.

Here’s my short review: i’ve been using my Xperia S for a couple of months now with .45 firmware, after a few weeks the OS lags most of the time especially when you put the timescape widget. using it got frustrating that i considered swapping my phone. NOW: using the current firmware, almost every time it runs quite fast, snappy but lags a little after bootup but the rest holds up really well. Actually im enjoying using the phone now. AND THE CAMERA! THANK GOD! FINALLY! haha i observed that even the quality of the shots got a little better as well. (im not really sure of that) Still waiting for the JB update Sony!

For you guys who hasnt updated yet, you should use Flashtool! its quite easy and after the update, you’ll want the improvements to Sony ICS. cheers!

  • OJ

and flashtool is safe to use as well. i think

  • asakk

    .55 avaible in Belgium!!!

  • Michael Salib

I advice u all to try theXTX experience custom ROM on XDA developers for XS its based on. 50 & the new.55 stock firmware & kernel. &it’s PREROOTED with some very interesting improvements like quickpanel, smallapps of Xperia T, Xperia T home…etc.. It’s very stable, very smooth& worth trying.

  • Sagar

Not yet available in India, stuck on .45, which is pretty f****d up!

  • Slashlock

I updated to .55 using the Flash Tool, the improvements, well it’s a little smoother or snappy lol. The quick launch issue with the camera is completely resolved, i also noticed the focus time is improved. Overall, they just tweaked the last firmware (.50),

The way i see it, Sony should roll out JB for Xperia S, this is the first only Sony mobile, it created some loyal customers, Sony should consider this.

  • amirkulet

I already got the. 50 update last september but i flash the. 55 using a flashtool and the lags minimize so much google it dude.

  • Has anybody in Germany got the .55 update yet?? I’m still running .45 and according to and pc companion no updates are available at the moment…

  • jhodax

    0 lag :)
    quick shot camera fixed
    1d 4h without charge

  • But, camera focus still unfix yet.

Yeah, battery life is much better then before.

  • jhodax

I never had problems with the focus, thanks to the hardware button, besides it’s a digital camera, give it a chance :)

  • Then, I’ll fix it in Sony Service Centre. I got problem with manual focus camera. So, I’ve to shoot an object with “Auto Scene” mode. Thanks for sharing Jhodax.

  • I’m in Poland and still have the same version on my Xperia.. Shame on you Sony!!
