Xperia E and Xperia E dual announced; 3.5-inch display, 1GHz processor launching in Q1 2013

in Featured Content, Xperia E

Sony Mobile has formally unveiled two new budget phones, the Xperia E (C1505/C1504) and Xperia E dual (C1605/C1604). The Xperia E is the single-sim version, whilst the Xperia E dual will have dual-sim compatibility. It’s quite clear that the phone is aimed for the budget market given that the headline feature is HD Voice and noise cancellation, something that already exists on many older Xperia handsets.

In terms of specs, the Xperia E has a 3.5-inch (320 x 480) TFT display powered by a 1GHz single-core MSM7227A Snapdragon S1 chipset and 512MB RAM. It will come with 4GB of internal storage (750MB free for apps and 2GB free for media) and a microSD memory card slot. Camera duties will be taken care of by a 3.2MP sensor with VGA video recording. It will come with a 1500mAh removable battery capable of 6 hours and 12 minutes of GSM talk time. Both handsets weigh 115.7 grams and have dimensions of 113.5 x 61.8 x 11.0 mm.

The Xperia E and Xperia E dual are due to launch in Q1 2013, but no pricing details have been outlined at this stage. The Xperia E will launch with Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, whilst the Xperia E dual will launch with Android 4.0.4 Ice Cream Sandwich and be updated to JB shortly after. The Xperia E will be available in black, white and pink colours, whilst the Xperia E dual will come in black and gold colours.

Announced 5th December, and will hit the stores next year?
That’s too early for an announcement.

Please Sony, do not repeat the mistake of last year.

  • The Gold one is very beautiful especially from the back .
But sony please every time we want to buy a phone another one come to the market please be slow when you make phones and be fast with update ( JB)

  • tymodmyt

“formally unviled” should be “formally unveiled”.

  • The Truth Must Be Said

Bullshit from sony. You know that other companies started making dual sim phones with very good specs ( dual core & quad core CPU. AMOLED screen 1GB RAM space… 4.0 inch … etc )

  • U – P – S
    J – T – V
    E – ? – ?

  • if with that damn msm7227a, will be another bomb like J and others who use this same shit

  • Eldis Skenderagic

Another entry/mid level phone. Just what we needed from Sony! (ultra sarcastic smiley needed)
Just continue with this Sony. Release 128697 phones by year, and support them with buggy updates, and you’ll be the top manufacturer soon!

  • Emmm.. Awesome. I love the design.

  • yo123620

One more phone?! Stupidity from SONY and support to the costumer is ZERO !!!

  • trowfd

it will ship with jelly bean so thats positive.

  • M

new era but old trick? no! at least I think sony should develop its own OS.

Yeah same old Sony, announce it fast and release it months later….

  • Arie

Please Sony focus on fewer devices and improve the quality!!!
4.3″ 720p Display LCD-IPS!! NO MORE PLAIN LCD!!!
    2500 mAh battery!!
At least dual core S4 Snapdragon
Improve the camera, 8mpx is okay but make it great!!

My last Xperia is Neo, a very dissapointing phone and now wait for next Xperia line but still couldn’t find one that really2 convince me to buy it…..

  • solid0snake

    E – F – G ;)

  • fuckthis

more phones means lack of support to the old ones. nice one sony, xperia 2012 device will be ignored. some old sony shit. They are like NOKIA now, they keep on releasing phones and leave the old high ends behind.

  • scorpio

Vita os for sony mobile phones!

  • scorpio

trademark for sony 2013 phones, its shutter button.

  • xperialover

what ? 1 GHz processor with 1500mah crazy in 2013 is not goin to work

  • Nico

It is a Single core with 512MB RAM

Seems to be missing at least one core and 512MB of ram.

    See link for more details

  • stasco

One question? Jelly bean on it?

  • why sooo many phones, why can’t sony adopt “less phone, better software support” concept….

  • Xlash Andraid

I just wonder what SONY does with all those leftovers of these phones that nobody cares about.

  • Xlash Andraid

They already did, and that OS is terribly slow and inefficient. See Xperia TXT pro, for example.

  • Paulo Santos

  • Lovebird

but PSVita OS is so fuckin cool and the OS can be applied to phones and tablets.

  • mak679

most of you are probably going to hate me for this, but i clearly don’t see any complaint in launching an entry level phone which has the possibility of having JB at launch,a 1500 mah battery which can last long, not alot of people can afford high power droids, some have to settle for entry level smartphones,i clearly see people’s frustration at sony for dropping the JB update for 2011 phones, but people can buy new phones at reasonable prices now.having a choice isn’t wrong for the consumer you has done a lot of good things and a lot of bad things this year, and ranting about spilled milk won’t fix things.we just need to be optimistic.:)

  • jellybean 4.1! :D

  • Mehdi Solamannejad

    No it won’t.

Xperia E will launch on Android 4.1 (Jelly Bean) for the latest Android user experience3

3 Xperia E dual launches initially on Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) and will be upgraded to Android 4.1 (Jellybean)..

  • because it worked great for samsung

  • hiszpanski

And it will come with / receive jelly bean :D 256MB of RAM? ;)

  • TrixzD

I just read its launching on JellyBean :D so there are no excuses for other 2012 low/mid range phones not go get it :D

  • Xlash Andraid

Yeah, but Android would be even cooler if SONY stops pushing a heavy UI and a lot of unecessary bloatware. My Ray for example runs beautiful with Vanilla and MIUI, it beats another Ray with stock SONY firmware; Xperia S, V and T should fly with AOSP.

Plus, VitaOS is exclusively built for PSP to enhance 100% stability and performance on it. If SONY engineers haven’t completely understood Android (that’s why they release delayed updates and don’t give more than one big upgrade to past phones… Or maybe they’re just lazy), do you think they would master VitaOS? I doubt it. The idea sounds fine for only a phone or two, maybe Xperia Play 2, but is not for the rest of the phones… And SONY has the “pretty” habit of releasing a big bunch.

And of course, if they’d switch to VitaOS and forget about Android, SONY would just lose an important place in the market. See samsung with bada (is dead), rim with blackberry OS, etc.

  • Nabil

I don’t think this is one of their new range of phones. I think they are going to present them at the CES and MWC 2013 like they did with the S P U

  • Very nice

  • yep

  • daniel

I can see new power key button … xperia 2013 will have new circle power key button… :-)

  • Endy

i think it very nice opinion – relase mid class phones ,because its most popular class of at all(and very nice option 4 budget class). It bigger market place. But I know most of u want powerful and water resistant droids …wait lil a bit and comes Yuga and Odin- thats 4 u :))

  • XYZ

Yep they will. This is exactly what Samsung did….Galaxies, Galaxies everywhere.

  • Heavy UI? I’m guessing that you’ve never seen Sense UI or TouchWiz. Its obvious that vanilla and MiUi would beats stock Sony rom since there is no customization to it. Sony would never release a phone without any customizations, why? It wouldn’t be different, what’s the point of selling android phones if it’s going to be the same as others? Then it would just be a Nexus that’s made my Sony, a lot of Nexuses.

But you know how to root it, unlock BL then why complain. Some people might like the stock rom and UI some might not, they can choose whatever they want to do with their phones.

  • lower your needs and everything will fit for you

  • This is low budget sooo… what do you want from it? It’s releasing with Jelly Bean (one of them at least), that’s more than enough for a low budget

  • jag

so i guess odin and yuga will be out on Q2 or Q3? hehe! i’ll just get the V first then wait for the Yuga to be released.

  • shivaprakash
  • Avinash

totally agree with you bro.. there’s so much of winning about another Low-Mid range device. I loved the device as it fits almost everyone’s budget. Sony will launch Flagships but to cover the Low-Mid range segment it has to deploy the likes of Xperia E. So for sure will impress us with this Mid range piece of Gadgetry. :)

  • I’m Xperian

    – I agree… Sony shouldn’t leave android
    – Sony should simultaneously develop android and VitaOS as well
    – unlike Samsung and Rim, Sony’s ecosystem is better.

  • MyLive

It’s a downsized xperia J.. hope it would be buttery smooth on jelly bean.. tell me will it be worthed to upgrade my tipo dual with this one??

  • SonOfGalaxy

    non-sense phone..both sim not work together for call…no mega bass,,poor display…poor headphone

  • Eldis Skenderagic

It is well known which ones out of Galaxy family, brought Samsung number one manufacturer title. It’s their flagship Galaxy. Not their low nor middle entry Galaxy.
It is not rocket science. Untill Sony becomes trend setter, not trend catcher, they will struggle in market share, as they struggle now.
Obviously, they must “steal” users from other manufacturers if they want to advance, and again obviously, from Apple and Samsung mostly. How exactly they plan to achieve this? I don’t see they will do any harm to above mentioned leaders, with current strategy.
Put yourself in a position of average Galaxy 3 user. You’re buying next phone. Will you buy another quad core phone from another manufacturer, with more or less the same specs that your current phone had 6 (or more) months ago?
Of course not. You will wait a new flagship from your favourite manufacturer, based on good experience with previous phones which were trend setters also.

  • Reminds me of the shutter key featured on the k810i

  • Xlash Andraid

Nobody is complaining here. I’m just pointing that NXT UI is heavy but could be better. Maybe if the developers find the way to low the weight of the fill and frame images, or working with .svg format would make a big difference (only if they want to do it…). My point is not saying that SONY sould release phones without customizations, but they could achieve a better quality and fluidity on their customization. Also, I insist, a lot of bloatware is not necessary, but they want to put a bunch of stuff. Root a device with stock firmware, install Titanium backup and see a lot of apps that most of people don’t use and don’t even know what are for.

And yes, I know touchwiz and sense, I agree they’re heavy too, I never said they were better than NXT UI. But for me, all UIs are not good enough, that’s why I love Vanilla.
MIUI is very customizable, you can do things that no other ROMs allow to, and is not heavy because it doesn’t have much bloatware on it.
Yes, I know how to do stuff with my phone, but people who don’t know have the right to get a nice, fluid, smooth and fast phone too, with early updates and decent support. I see a lot of guys complaining about buggy updates from SONY, just remember the stupid “not led light notification” error, wtf?

  • Xlash Andraid

    that sounds more affordable.

  • Jason

    for what? such a stupid

  • Eagle Eye

Yeah! SUPER! !! Vita OS can be applied to many devices, not only phones and tablets but also smart TVs. !

what the f*ck is wrong with you sony?

  • Paul

Xperia E has the same specs as the J, Qualcomm MSM7227A SnapdragonS1 with an Adreno 200 GPU, specs that the old Xperia X10 had which was released 2009 (except an slightly different CPU architecture), and both will get JellyBean.
But phones like the Xperia Ray from 2011 which feature the Qualcomm MSM8255 SnapdragonS2 with an Adreno 205 GPU are left behind? Trying to make their customers believe that those 2011 phones are not capable of running JellyBean?
Takes A LOT of guts to insult their customers intelligence like that. Sony will continue with this behavior, discontinuing updates for older phones so that they can sell their new ones. Greed instead of customer satisfaction seems to rule this company….

  • You might not been complaining about it but trust me, there are a lot of them out there. I don’t have any bloatware (at least I think), the only apps that came with my phones are just Sony stock apps
I don’t really like MiUi that much but its okay, the only reason that I like the NXT UI more than the Vanilla UI is the apps tray/menu and the homescreen dock, the Vanilla’s apps tray/menu icon doesn’t do it for me.
From what i’ve seen from their new phones, the UI is nice, fluid, smooth and fast like you said.

  • Arie

    Already lower my needs bro…
Other flagships have 4.7 ips/amoled display, quadcore processor, 2000++ mAh battery
