Vote for your favourite Sony Xperia of 2012

2012 has been a year of transition for Sony Mobile. Early in the year, Sony completed the buyout of Ericsson’s stake in the Sony Ericsson joint venture. It has since focused marketing dollars on the Sony brand, including rebranding its phones and embarking on its ‘One Sony’ strategy.

In the process, it has released lots of phones (perhaps too many) and is slowly gaining market share. All of this sets up nicely for 2013. There are some great Sony Xperia handsets on the horizon and hopefully we’ll see some hardware that can compete with Apple/Samsung’s offerings. Before we look forward, let’s reflect on 2012. As we stand on the eve of 2013, we wanted to know what are your favourite Xperia handsets from the last year?

We conducted a similar poll back in early August and the Xperia S came out on top with circa 40% of the vote. This time round we’ve included all of the Japanese handsets to make this a truly global poll. Overall, there are fifteen options to choose from and we’ve grouped similar handsets together. Please vote in the poll below and let us know the reasons in the comments below.

Voted for the S cause it’s the one i’m currently using. Supprisingly it’s also the one with the most votes. I would think that the later Xperias like the T would get more votes~

  • Mark phillips

I own xperia s but like the V and it’s my favorite of 2012!!

  • Serdar Aytamaner

Xperia S has the best design & feature mix. Later models’ spec sheets may be a little stronger but not so much to cover for their weaker designs.

  • Xperia T bcoz of its look & Hardware

  • I own Xperia S. But I really like the Japanese SX’s design.

  • Xperia S is my favourite phone

  • San Kroy

I have a Xperia S from this 5 december its an excelent gadget for me. The camera is amazing 12 MP

  • weeeeooo

xperia s and xperia t is not on the picture hmmmm……

  • weeeeooo

    i mean on 1st picture

  • totally agree

  • Ali Al-Khazal

Voted for V because it was the phone that I really wanted but never got it because of it’s release date :(. Now I’m waiting for 2013 Xperias ^^

  • u owner

xperia u cos its illumination bar is unique!!!

  • Nico

I bought an Xperia J as a second phone and was surprised by the battery capacity, speed and stability. So for me the Xperia J is imho the best Xperia of 2012.

  • John-Mark Christmas

I voted for the Xperia SL which I currently own. The design is amazing. I have the black, and sometimes I find myself just staring at the phone when it’s off or in the night when the illumination bar lights up is truly unique. To add, the screen quality, the camera and the overall UI.

  • maxiobor

Xperia P for its design, aluminium body, Whitemagic technology (its super in outdoor!) also I think the display has nice colors and I love keys on illu bar but they dont have strong light…

  • Robert Caldecott

Despite it’s faults (the horrible soft buttons for example) and the shoddy treatment of it’s users by Sony (no JB upgrade till the summer despite being a “flagship” device) the Xperia S gets my vote. My wife has one and the screen and camera really make it.

  • Robert Caldecott

    Well said.

  • lovebmw

i the xperia S and now the T, i always sell my old phones but i kept the S for memory or spare phone… its just so beautiful… i wish they did more with that see through bar, like different LEDs colors for alerts and such… then they would have been sooooo distinguished, i dont know what is stopping them, no one got an S and said its not unique… so sad

  • Norio24

Of course my precious Xperia S is the best even I like the Xperia T too

  • lovebmw

i got so used to the soft key and there latest update i really had no issues, every touch i made was doing its job

  • Basharca

I voted for Xperia S although I love my xperia P. I just feel that the Xperia S has a unique design and sturdy built along with great features that can easily compete with the best phones out there.
Xperia S won my vote and I’m glad that most people seem to share my opinion :)

    Happy new year friends!

  • lovebmw

the V is unique in functions, but the no camera button kills it! going for the S… what a beauty it was.

  • Nikos Kakogiannakis

The S is the first and best !

  • Robert Caldecott

15 devices in a single year is absolute madness. They cannot update even a 6 month old flagship to JB in a reasonable time because they keep pushing new models. They cannot market or promote so many phones. They should take a leaf out of Samsung’s book and produce a top-end device and push it hard, releasing Android updates for it quickly. The Sony UI is far better than TouchWiz and coupled with Sony screens and cameras they could steal the Android market with the right device. But 15 is crazy. A handful of devices (top end, medium and low end) would do it. Some people may think all this choice is a good thing but it will bite them in the long run when users choose to avoid Sony when their device gets dumped because they have to keep releasing new models. I want Sony to do better than Samsung!

  • APai

T will be redeemed in february, when Jb arrives

  • Cheng

Have to be our Xperia S, best design and combination specs (for that time) for 2012. Congrats! Looking forward for the next best design in 2013~ Happy Year guys!

  • Cheng

TOTALLY agree. I just watch my nice light to light up at night , after work…impresses myself every time how beautful the phone is. Let alone public people hahaha~~~ cheers man!

  • WTF

Xperia S Android 4.1 Jelly Bean where?

  • Carl

Xperia T & V have amazing features and specs, but the S has the best build. If only Sony didn’t choose to ignore it, the S would be amazing.

  • All in one phone

  • Putra

    Xperia S <3

  • afzal

Xperia s = piece of art… love it so much.

  • Ashua

Good point so how many phones do you think are coming out in 2013? (after Today ) ? :) so far there is xperia. Z and x phablets, Doga. And hushan and xperia. E is that a good amount of phones for the year.? Compared to last year.? ;)

  • jundamane24

xperia s because thats the phone I actually own & its brilliant :)

  • Cp2020

Absolutely…got Red one and it’s a true stunner

  • Zach Vasquez

    Xperia ion
the only thing I don’t like about that phone it’s is battery though
I feel the ion has a very elegant design judging by the nice aluminum stripper design going from the back to the sides
it feels like the phone was built for a high class business man

  • der kaizer

Xperia S is truly beautiful, its a love at the first sight, it`s simple yet classy and elegant looking, and its led strip makes it fun and break the serious boxy design, the design break the common paradigm that round is beautiful. It doesnt have to round to be beautiful, and it doesnt have to be boxy to be ugly :)

Too bad it`s the only one of it`s kind, i dont know why they discontinued this unique design, but it makes this phone more valueable..

  • Same here. I have the white one. x)

  • von

Xperia SL is the first phone I actually bought using my salary at my first job :p I LOVE IT.

  • roeshak

The xperia s without a shadow of a doubt. I’m not voting though because I’m thoroughly disappointed with it. I had high hopes for it when it was on Gingerbread but since the buggy ics update, those hopes have been dashed. The fact that it’s getting jb from April of next year is neither here nor there for me even though I understand that many are unhappy with that. Rightly so.
I made up my mind a while ago to get something else once the 2013 flagships appear.
The strange thing is, without the xperia s, Sony would have had another dismal year yet they were so quick to forget their best seller. An insane group of individuals surely and that’s why I’m moving on to something else. Most likely HTC. I don’t want to keep buying phones from an insane group of individuals. The X10 and the Xperia S is all the experience of this insanity that I need.

Where’s the option for Xperia Tablet S? It’s my favourite of the year! :-)

  • Sony Xperia TX is my choice. Best Sony android smartphone to date !

  • powerofviva

  • mohammad1233214

All the phones in the picture are ICS except The Sola

  • mohammad1233214

I voted for the Xperia S because its a great phone and i really can’t sell it or leave it, I always put the newest things from Sony on it.
It’s just a great phone from sony..
Go go Sony and beat Samsung and apple

  • bye bye sony

Xperia s is my last sony phone.. Vote for XS..

  • Tonigame

    Totally agree,

Imagine a Xperia SS with quad core,2 gb ram memory, water and dust resitant,32 gb, a lil slimmer and the back home keys should be more responsive ,i would die to get that phone

  • Ambroos

Hard to decide. Probably the TX or the SX, both for the superb design and specs. The V is nice too but just looks a tiny bit less pretty.

  • Medium range with complete feature is Xperia Sola, so pls giive update in Jelly Bean !

  • Dileep Kumar

I have an Xperia Neo L. May I know, this phone will get Jelly Bean update?

  • Loken

    V for Features

  • AlexBurnout

    I have the Xperia S

  • jerom

what about xperia j Does he work on that device please feedback?

  • Victor

I’ll say the Xperia S. It feels like a big step for Sony into the the phone market.
Even though I’m a little dissapointed in them because of the late JB-update ;)

  • Abray

Xperia TX is just simply beautiful and thin, has a big screen, ergonomic, and simetric design.

  • AM

I voted for my own phone the Xperia V.

  • Janne

Happy with my S but LTE and IP would be great additions…

  • Xperia

    Totally Agree,.!

  • chrisphillers

You are kidding, compared to the V or T??

  • Z

    keep dreaming..

  • having more than 2 models for a phone is ridiculous..and is a LOSS OF MONEY…just make one phone the super geeks and one for the casual humans…its that simple..dont believe me ask SAMSUNG or APPLE ..SMFH. SONY has yet learned their lesson when it comes to phones and TV’s ..until then they will ALWAYS BE BEHIND in the WORLD OF TECHNOLOGY! – BTW IM A HUGE SONY FAN – EVERY TECH I OWN IS SONY FROM TV TO WATCH TO CELL AND PLAYSTATION..IM JUST DISSAPOINTED IN THE MARKETING DECISIONS THEY MAKE WITH THIER FANTASTIC DEVICES.

  • Michael Hofmann

Xperia S was one of the first phones on the market with a 720p display and at the time had the highest pixel density of any phone. It deserves recognition for this achievement.

  • Michael Hofmann

Xperia S was one of the first phones on the market to have a 720p display, it is getting the recognition it deserves.
