Xperia ZQ now on pre-order in Brazil; shipping on 22 April

in Xperia Z and Xperia ZL

Xperia ZQ BrazilThe Sony Xperia ZQ is the Brazilian version of the Xperia ZL (C650X). The model on offer in Brazil appears to be the C6506 SKU, with support for the same LTE bands as the North American SKU (Bands 1, 2, 4, 5 and 17). We’re still not clear, why Sony Brazil felt the need to rename the Xperia ZL to Xperia ZQ in the region, but the handset offers no differences from what we can see.

The Xperia ZQ has gone up for pre-order on the Sony Store Brazil site for BRL 2,049 (£671, €790, $1028). Pre-orders will stay live until 21 April, with stock shipping the day after. Seems like quite a hefty price to pay compared to other regions. Anyone Brazilian readers planning to pre-order?

Thanks Crispim!

Xperia Blog, the price is a bit high due the taxes we have here. Just so you have an idea, Xperia S got here costing BRL 1.899 ( 953 USD). Galaxy S4 is on pre order for BRL 2299 (1154 USD)…

Hi Felipe, yes, we have high taxes but the villain is not just this. Unfortunately in Brazil companies have high gain expectation per each product (unlike have gain by amount), so they levels prices for up. Then: high taxes + high gain margins (greed) + people who pay = these kind of distortions.

About the question above: No, I love it but will try a XZL or XSP bought on US or China (after quest about compatibility, sure)

Exactly. But the main villain is that, plus people paying for such a high price…

I know for a fact that “ZL” refers to a bad, “mostly” poor and uneducated area of São Paulo, (Brazil’s largest market and for that, extremely expressive and recognisable in the whole country).
So, it seems placing what would be a mild reference of poverty in a top-of-line, expensive product, would not be a good idea.
As for the pricing, it’s on pair with that of the Galaxy S3 and slightly cheaper than the Galaxy S4 and iPhone 5, so, what Sony expects people to pay for a premium product in Brazil.
I would get mine on a contract, for 1/3 of the retail price, I hope.
