T-Mobile Xperia Z getting closer? Firmware certified for C6606/C6616 variant

by XB on 8th May 2013

in Xperia Z and Xperia ZL

XZ C6606 C6616The Sony Xperia Z (C660X) may be getting closer to a launch on T-Mobile US as firmware has been certified by the PTCRB website for the C6606/C6616 variant. We expect that this model(s) will have the necessary LTE support for North America.

The C6606 SKU would most likely support LTE bands 1, 2, 4, 5 and 17. We don’t know whether the C6616 model is a different model altogether, however given the single listing on PTCRB, there may be a slight tweak to the frequency band support. Hopefully, we’ll hear some concrete news on a T-Mobile release soon.

Thanks Aaron!

If only I did not know about the i 1, I would have.

  • Raymond

Anyone any news on the Xperia Z update?

  • Keon Fraites

I heard the update supposed to be in a few weeks according to people over at xda

  • lovebmw

Why? Tell me what is new?

  • Ziich

if i do not get any concrete news about the t-mobile release by next week i am just going to get the c6602 after all its abt $550 now and it still supports tmobiles hspa+42mbps

  • Xyor

The “few week” thing was originally posted when Z was released in Eur, few months ago.

  • Xyor

Since it got certified, from previous experience, it may only going to take about couple more weeks to arrive the store.

  • Xyor

IS THERE ANY POSSIBILITY THAT ONE OF THOSE MAY BE A AT&T/UNLOCK VERSION????..Due to my stupidity, I peal off the back glass’s protecter, and now it has glu all over it. Also, the fingerprints give the back a very horrible illumination. Thus, I want to have a new Z, for which support the LTE of at&t will be the best

  • so usually within less than 3 weeks it should be released? cant wait!!

  • any news about 4.2 update for xperia z

  • lolsomany

after a few week we will heard people moaning about ” where is jb 4.2 for my xperia Z”

  • Arokhantos

  • …no, Frank no, plz Frank, stahp

  • i don’t know is it a new update to all z??or what?

  • Jason Wang

Seriously what is the thing about 4.2 that you guys are desperate about? Notification bar toggles? Swype-like keyboard? Panorama camera? Seriously the only thing “new” is lockscreen widgets, but I still can’t see what the whining is about.
Anyway all of us guys at xda know that version number can easily be changed in build.prop within a few seconds.

  • John Peter Berdat

Does anyone know if there will be an update for stamina mode on Xperia z cause it s starting to bug Me when it s still on 23 hours max instead of 2 days when on

  • jag

Haha true! We already have the Swype like keyboard and it is already awesome. Photosphere… Hmm i don’t think they will use that.. I assume that Sony will think of something better. Lockscreen widgets would be a no-no… Too hard to implement because of the new lock screen? Maybe some bug fixes.. Must fix all those bugs. Hehe! And some new things like what they always do when they update the firmware.

  • Ziich

you can clean off the glue but since you can afford to get another Xperia z just wait for this 6606 model which will support american lte bands (t-mobile and att) or just get the zl which already supports them

  • Ziich

hopefully it will not take too long

  • Xyor

I can’t, I already tried to wash it off, but it won’t get off/_…and I’m afraid that using shape tools might sketch the glass. Though the LTE is not a essential problem; however I still want to have it. The look of Z > LTE, so no ZL/_

I know right… 4.1 works perfectly, just loads of greedy ppl who just want the latest for no reason -.-

  • thepanttherlady

I just got my C6602 because I was impatient (and wanted purple). I love this phone! :)

  • Ziich

i think i will do just that the c6602 is really cheap now and i am really tired of waiting. i do not like the s4 and the 64gb black version of the one is not available on t-mobile

  • Peter Griffin, Esq.

Soooooo 6606 is the TMB/Rogers AWS LTE, and 6616 is for Bell Canada?

  • thepanttherlady

I was never interested in the S4 or the HTC ONE. I sold my Note 2 to try the new BB Z10 but hated it so much. I took that back and got the Nexus 4 (swore I’d never buy that phone) because I only wanted the Xperia Z. Like you, I got tired of waiting and after some other T-Mo users confirmed the C6602 worked great on the network, I pulled the trigger. I don’t regret it at all and don’t think you will either. Only complaint I have thus far regarding this phone is speaker placement. It’s on the right hand side, towards the bottom of the phone, where a user would hold it if using it one-handed. :/

  • for gods sake, when will my SO-05D get jelly bean?!

  • rumor says sony will skip 4.2

  • Ziich

yup i just bought it from negri. now i wait…….
    i hate waiting

  • thepanttherlady

Yayyyy!!! Let me know what you think after you’ve played with it for awhile.

  • dandaman0331

Just get the ZL! I have it and it is amazing! I bought the red one and it is the sexiest phone I’ve ever seen! Screen looks unbelievable(who gives a Shit about viewing angles?) I have no issues with the normal viewing angle(straight on) and have no plans looking at it from an angle, ever. The screen to bezel ratio makes it feel like your holding just a screen. Performance is fast and fluid. Did I mention it has IR for using as a remote for your tv etc.. So much good stuff to say about the zl but I’m sleepy. Go buy it, don’t think twice, LTE supported

  • Ziich

Finally got it after two week of waiting. I am really enjoying it especially with the .253 update.
The speaker doesn’t really bother me as i am left handed but i wish it was on the bottom or somewhere else.

The headphones that come with it are amazing but unfortunately they do not fit me properly which is a shame
On T-mobile I get about 15-20mbps depending on where i am
Beautiful display (vertical viewing angles could have been better)
Battery life is just barely enough to get through my day (but i carry extra battery packs just in case)
I really love this phone and i am glad that i bought it

  • thepanttherlady

Glad to hear it! I still haven’t received the .253 update…booooo!

I usually have my phone in a case (as well as a full body shield…I’m anal with my phones and can’t stand dings, dents, scratches etc.) but bought a charging dock, well two so I can have one at work and one at home, to keep from having to open the ports over and over and over. I also bought a stereo bluetooth headset because I listen to the radio every day so that’s another port that is opened and shut constantly. I am soooooo much happier with my phone now. Oh! I also bought an external battery charger but haven’t received it yet.

Still love this phone. The only other phone I’d even consider blinking at right now would be the Sony Honami. Everything else just seems to pale in comparison. :)

  • Ziich

for the .253 update you should be able to get it from sony pc companion. the moment i connected mine it downloaded immediately i bought the sbh20 as well but i haven’t gotten it yet

  • thepanttherlady

I already tried that. More than once. Each time it tells me that I already have the most updated software.

It’s ok, I don’t have any complaints with it now so I figure I’ll get the update when it gets to me.

  • deadpool134

Just wondered does this model get the 4.3 update at all?
