Two new firmware versions certified for the Xperia Z – could Android 4.2.2 be on the horizon?

Xperia Z T-Mob FirmwareThe expected North American version of the Sony Xperia Z (C6606, C6616) has seen two new firmware builds certified by the PTCRB. First of all, we have firmware build number 10.1.1.A.1.319, which we expect would be another Android 4.1.2 update. This compares to the latest Xperia Z firmware (10.1.1.A.1.307) that was recently released.

However, the second firmware version is more intriguing. Build number 10.3.A.0.407 is the first we have seen in the form of 10.3.X.X.XXX and could suggest a major Android iteration over the current firmware. There is a good chance that this is an early build of Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean.

It has been widely rumoured that the Xperia Z would land on a US carrier shortly, with CEO Kazuo Hirai confirming as much recently. T-Mobile looks to be a frontrunner for the device and this news may signal that the handset may arrive with Android 4.2.2 when it appears Stateside. Also, if this is indeed an Android 4.2.2 build, then there is a good chance that we might see it certified for the HSPA+ (C6602) and European LTE (C6603) versions soon.

Upload the ready firmware to peoples first …before just certifying another firmrware….

  • Carlos Alberto Deleón

I want easy root for the next 4.2.2 FW.

Rooting current firms gives me headaches.

  • SonyFan

Yes mee too…u must go back to 434 and blablabla i dont wanna do this

  • SonyFan

    Maybe its 4.3????

  • Doubleyoupee

    Nothing certified for ZL c6503 :( :(!!

  • Mike Gonzalez

i wish that turned out true, but sadly it will be as high as 4.2.2

  • lovebmw

    What is a zl?

  • SaLoOoMX

How i can get xperia z international device

  • Julio Spinoza

Buy it in GSMnation, the sell internationall version, or if you have a Xperia Z already flash a Globa generic firmware
    regards

  • Julio Spinoza

the NO water and dust resistant version of the great Xperia Z

  • lovebmw

    Why?

  • Julio Spinoza

Because there are some markets that according to Sony dont want the Xperia Z, for example, here in America you can ony buy the ZL. Exactly the same hardware but no Water and dust resistant

  • lovebmw

Why would a company do such a stupid thing?

  • Julio Spinoza

i dont know, and even Sony doesnt know haha. You can ask them if you dont believe me

  • pointblank

huh? you mean, update before certify? it’s like serving food without tasting if it’s delicious.

  • Guest

    He’s just trolling.

  • Guest

The Z is supposed to be coming soon, with signs pointing to T-mobile.

  • Julio Spinoza

America is a continent not a country, and the only country that will receive the Xperia Z officially is United States, not Mexico, Canada or Brazil, you can check the sony mobile pages of each

  • lovebmw

    :p

  • Billy de Fretes

if 4.2.2 release than this is good thing since last firmware 319 still not availiable in indonesia.

  • qwer

    that’s SONY strategy always
    “New Firmware, New phones”

  • Kaarthikeyan Swaminathan

He meant, release the previous certified firmware updates before just teasing ppl with new certifications. See those certified firmwares on May24? They haven’t reached major part of us! And the worst of all, XS updated hasn’t reached us too!

  • panagiώtis

hmm it’s only june. too fast for Sony to give update to 4.2.

  • plekenut

    You mean fw 307? CMIIW

  • Doubleyoupee

What? No. The Xperia Z is in my country but I wanted the ZL. The Z is way too big.. the ZL is more than 7.4mm shorter and 2mm thinner yet has the same 5″ (smallest 5″ phone). That and the rough back makes it way better to hold and use.
Oh.. and dedicated camera button and IR blaster??

  • falesh chaudhary

    yeah, Kaarthikeyan

thats what i meant….just going on certifying new firmware wont help…where is the update for users…who spend so much money buying their devices so as to get the latest and best updates…and what they do is keep certifying the new firmwares before user gets to use their last released firmware….come SONY you are too slow….

  • the_black_dragon

There is NO Global Generic… this Firmware does NOT exist >.<

  • Xyor

I guess it’s because the Xperia Z was designated to.sell on att. However due to the weak selling of TL n ion, holding over stock TL att do not want to pick up. So Sony turned to TMo. But inorder to be released, Z have to finish th network compatibility test. And TMo is so jammed by the LTE / iPhone releasing. So the 6606 delayed. Pretty sure the 6616would be the nexus Z

  • hocestquisumus

About time. The 4.2 update was promised for right after release.

  • Rob

Also less dead space around the display, slightly thicker but less wide and high. Oh and a camera button.

  • Rob

Google haven’t even released 4.3, so thats not even remotely possible.

  • Z

Here in Malaysia my unbranded C6603 still doesn’t receive .307 update yet.

  • SonyFan

I think Google gives the Sources 3 months before the release to the OEMs…thats since 4.1.2 i think…that explains why devices leaks with 4.3 in databanks

  • Keon Fraites

Can’t wait for this update 9.9!!!

  • Robert Edge

Same here in UK too, my faith in Sony as a cutting edge company is now non existant, what is their problem with updates, other companies don’t seem to have a problem updating phones…

  • Babylonbwoy

That’s why people buy unlockable bootloader version, no headaches, flash kernel/recovery and your done.

  • Babylonbwoy

Not all certified firmware are released.

  • rus_media

    Sony with 4.3 now? Lol

  • SaLoOoMX

What’s problem in battery Xperia z we need fix it

  • Rob

    You are wrong.

  • lancebukkake

…or it could be your carrier who hasn’t released .307 yet. You can easily just flash .307 via Flashtool.

  • Kj mok

Just now my battery was almost empty and so I went and charge it before taking a short nap. 3 hours later it’s supposed to be charged and yet it’s only half charged, and both the charger and the phone itself got so hot, I’m afraid it might explode. Rebooted the phone and it charged fine after that. What is wrong with my phone ehh? :(

  • SaLoOoMX

No it’s normally the hot behind device now it’s good also in my phone try to make battery serve on

  • Kj mok

No, it’s not the normal “hot” I felt in the past 3 months. This is the hot I’ve never felt before. Normally the charger won’t get too hot as well. Although its fine after I rebooted, I wanna know what’s wrong that made the phone extremely hot.
