in Firmware, Sony Tablet

XTZ_307Firmware_2The Sony Xperia Tablet Z has received new firmware updates over the last week. Sony has pushed out firmware build 10.1.1.A.1.307 for the LTE model (SGP321) along with version 10.1.C.0.370 for the Wi-Fi models (SGP311/SGP312).

Users are reporting a number of small performance improvements to the home launcher and touch sensitivity. Some are also reporting better Wi-Fi performance. Those who have their tablets rooted will be glad to hear that root status is retained after updating.

Thanks Quynh and Rene!

I’ve seen that the galaxy note 10.1 has many features that would be helpful for a student.
Does the Xperia Tablet X have features that would be good, too? or is it solely a media/games tablet?

  • dereknobuyuki

Wait, didn’t this update get released like 2 weeks ago?
So far, I’ve noticed nothing important changed for me personally since I have never had any problems with the launcher, touch sensitivity, nor the wifi connectivity.

The only problem I have is plugging in or inserting the device into the cradle causes a lot of apps to reload (Smart Connect has pushed out several updates but this relatively minor problems persists.

  • adam

Thats even worst, the updates already released, just wait you impatient 9it. It might not even be Sony’s problem, might be your phone carrier… -_-‘

All the rich people who wants it all and wants it now annoys me. I know there are people who are rich and patience, so… :P

  • Tech Gospel

Yay… now if only this were relevant here in the Philippines where we’re impatiently waiting for this thing to be available.

I can’t seem to find a good Xperia Tablet X vs Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 review?
    Can someone help me out?

  • Rob

Try searching for Xperia Tablet Z instead? :)

  • Marco Sobrevilla

I have, I just wrote it wrong when I wrote the question.

Galaxy Note 10.1 and the Xperia Tablet Z are not directly competing since they are for different markets.

The Galaxy Note 10.1 is for a niche market whereas the Xperia Tablet Z is for the general mainstream market.

Is Galaxy Note 10.1 actually a Galaxy Note 2 10.1? Otherwise, the Galaxy Note 10.1 is almost a year old and from a different generation of devices from the Xperia Tablet Z

    Note 10.1 = Unveiled February 2012

    Xperia Tablet Z = Unveiled February 2013

The Galaxy Note 10.1 was not a particular good device. It didn’t have as good of a digitizer as well as being big and bulky. There is a niche market for a 10.1 inch stylus tablet but outside of that niche there are other far better devices.

The main competition with the Xperia Tablet Z is the Nexus 10 and the iPad 4th Gen.

The Xperia Tablet Z is thinner and lighter than the others. Xperia Tablet Z has a better camera and better camera UI compared to the Nexus 10 but cameras on a tablet are low priority. Finally, Xperia Tablet Z is certified for water and dust protection.

While they all have really nice high resolution displays, the Nexus 10 has the highest pixel density.

The iPad and Xperia Z both make industrial design and priority.

The iPad has a somewhat more mature app store than the Xperia or Nexus tablets (since we’re talking about Tablet experience and not smartphone experience apps)

All three tablets are really powerful with powerful SoC and GPUs.

The Xperia Tablet Z has a microSD slot as well as can easily mount any usb devices/disks/usb memory sticks, etc with the host controller on board. The iPad supports neither removable storage nor USB host controllers. The Nexus should support USB host but does not have a microSD slot.

You don’t really need a review; Those three are decent devices. The data is all out there and beyond that is important to go to the store and play the device before committing to a purchase.

If you are specifically looking for a 2nd generation 10.1 inch stylus tablet from Samsung then I don’t think it has launched nor even made its media rounds yet.

Tbh that is the worst reply i have ever seen

The other thing that is important for some people is the UX and speed of updates.

Galaxy devices will have Samsung’s UX which loves to break the design paradigms set by Google. I have Galaxy devices and I can live with their UX but I don’t really like it.

Nexus devices will have Google’s UX — the so called “pure” android.
This is largely good and ensures speedy updates when new features and new versions of Android roll out but can be lacking in a few areas (especially camera apps)

Xperia devices will have Sony’s UX. Sony Ericsson learned the hard way that overcoming the limitations of the Android platform means a lot of deep changes and deep integration… but those deep changes were ultimately not worth it since maintaining that code for the massive code changes that come with a new version of android meant that they couldn’t update fast enough nor efficiently. Even tech-savvy users didn’t care how ridiculously a lot of work it is to change android versions including having to completely rewrite the layer that separates the hardware from the main part of the Android OS.

Fast forward to 2013, and Sony seems to be working really hard to respect Google’s not mature feature sets and design UX while adding in nice enhancements.

Apple’s UX is Apple’s UX which is already well documented.

In my opinion, many makers these days such as HTC and Sony have been doing a great job at not changing Android too much so that the Android’s core UX is intact and that making OS updates is faster and less painful. (That and Android is a lot more mature now needing a lot less changes from makers)

  • Indians are known to not have a good comeback from my experience in this blog

  • afzal zainal

What empty promise?? Just because ur ion still pending on update doest means sony broke their promise. As mentioning before xperia ion update will be release soon after xperia s update. So just calm urself and just wait for the update. Xperia ion creation are for atnt carrier at the begining and then they decide to release ion for global market a few month after. The software need to be optimise for 2 different ion version. One with lte ( antnt ) and the other one hspa version ( global release ) . :-)

  • KubsiJack

soon = 1 month 2 or 3 or next year

  • Kunal

Lol… And from my experience, u havent really met 1…

  • Kunal

Ion users r freaking out becoz dey wer supposed to get the update by end of Arpil and its almost June end and there’s no sign of it.. Also the other phn’s updates are full of bugs… We dont mind if sony releases a bit late updates but atleast we xpect it to b bug free den.. Common dis is da point wher ny1 wud loose patience…

  • afzal zainal

    Depend… :-)

  • Ashad Mamood

No comparison! Tablet Z is way better

  • Ashad Mamood

They are teaching Ion users a lesson not to spam articles with off topic comments

  • adam

Xperia T/TL and Xperia P JB updates are close to bugless. The only update that is full of bugs is the Xperia S, because Sony messed that update up ages ago.

  • David Gandhi

Your indian aswell, your name is indian…

  • Deerubhai Shah

Shut up You Stinking Git. Faggot.

  • Rene Pedroso
  • kunal

Xperia S is 2012’s flagship phn of sony, how can dey still not release a bug free update for it (already dey r late in releasing update, dey wer xpected to hit by april 2013)

  • A-nonymous

Apparently I was also just searching the same and had a lot of talk about it with my dad. We concluded that the Nexus 10 at a price point of 32k(Imported from will be the best. As Nexus 10’s resolution is far more than even Tablet Z and supports all the apps from Play Store with best performance, and as it’s made by Samsung warranty isn’t and issue and normal capacitive stylus works equally well. Tablet Z at 45k is really overpriced, and I’ve just ordered a Nexus 10 now! :)

  • if are soo Clueless…and u have know idea what’s going on in this world..

why would u give an stupid comment ?
