Android RootDooMLoRD from xda-developers has been hard at work again and has just released version 11 of his Easy Rooting Toolkit. This allows users on the latest Jelly Bean firmware to root their handsets. However only select models are supported right now including the Xperia Z, Xperia SP and Xperia S.

The exploit used works on handsets with both locked and unlocked handsets, however it is also specific to particular customisations on each model. FTF firmware links are provided in each of the posts linked below, these can be flashed via Flashtool. For users that have a different customisation, they only need to flash the kernel.sin & system.sin and then run the rooting script.

Easy Rooting toolkit supports the following customisations:

Xperia S (LT26i) {FW: 6.2.B.0.211} [Cust: 1257-8080]
Xperia Z (C6603) {FW: 10.1.1.A.1.307} [Cust: 1270-6704]
Xperia SP (C5302) {FW: 12.0.A.1.284} [Cust: 1272-1092]

Thanks DooMLoRD, skyend and @__poochi!

    thanx!

btw – in the meantime for others – the easiest way to gain root on the JB Xperia is:
    1. downgrade to generic ICS (it has to be as clean as possible – no apps, default config, etc..)
    2. root the ICS (which is easy for most devices)
    3. upgrade to JB via OTA (Update Center system app) – wifi is recommended, also full battery charge ‘cos it takes some time..
    4. enjoy the rooted JB :))

and yes, upgrade via cable (SEUS, PC companion, etc..) will loose root.
BUT if the system is update via OTA the root will survive.

to all: it will not work on .253 (Xperia Z) or .200 (Xperia S). You have to manually flash before using this root method. I have both handsets and i tried it with my Xperia S @ .200. It doesn’t work.

How to flash manually the latest FW. (No Root/Unlock needed)

    1. Download Flashtool here: http://uploaded.net/file/lsharcrf
    2. Download latest FW here (for example Xperia S): http://goo.im/devs/DooMLoRD/xperia_s/LT26i_6.2.B.0.211.ftf
    3. Copy the downloaded file into “Flashtoolfirmware” – for example “C:Flashtoolfirmware”
    4. Open flashtool an click on that lightning icon and click “OK”
    5. Unselect “Wipe User Data” if you want to keep your data
    6. Now turn off your Smartphone, hold Volume DOWN and connect it via USB Cable (same stime)
    7. Now it will automatically start to flash firmware. After finish, just unplug and boot your device.

So, if you want to root now, just use the doomlord tool.

    Thx for doomlord

  • GotROOT

    !! CONFIRMED, it works :D

I downgraded my XJ to generic 4.0.4 (v11.0.A.3.18), then rooted it with Flashtool (SuperSU method), then updated the SuperSU app to newest version, connected to wifi and checked out the Update Center app – it found the newest Jelly Bean update (v11.2.A.0.31).
I upgraded it Over The Air and here it is – got root :D

    THANX

I downgraded my XJ to ICS v11.0.A.3.28 (not v11.0.A.3.18)

    About phone >> Software update

just blocked me for 24 hours, unsuccessful WiFi attempted update of FirmWare
    Model # LT28at, Build # 6.1.C.1.111

My situation: I want to upgrade the FW in order to root. The phone is not active at the moment. My rooted phone on Virgin Mobile cannot pass the contacts to the SD card because Titanium Backup needs root access on the new unlocked phone.

Silly situation. I really want to RTFM about rooting my new phone. Software Update tells me to wait 24h before trying to update.
Can I somehow sideload the FW update?

    Thanks,
