Socialife_New updateSony has given its Socialife ‘social news’ app a major update. We first reported on this last week and Sony has now released version 4.0.02 into the Google Play Store. The improvements include a new light-coloured UI, improved performance of screenflow and a new customisable starting page called “Headlines”. This version currently only works on smartphones (tablet support will come in a later update). To download it head over to the Play Store. If you’ve downloaded it, let us know your impressions below.

Thanks Danilo!

Gave it a whirl and so far I’m impressed on the Xperia T. Very sleek. Quick. Much improved.

Tried the APK on my Xperia Tablet Z. Installs but as you say, isn’t properly supported. UI glitches.

They still havent done rss sources right. How am I supposed to find an rss url of an unknown website that the app accepts it? Otherwise well done. I like the widget, although it has a mind of it’s own :)

It is definitely a step in the right direction, but it’s not perfect or of much use by now. Where are google + feeds? You see what I mean?

  • Marinko Agic

    It is great now!

  • Le Lion

Does somebody released the apk ? So we can try it on Xperia S

  • Get Far Gigie

i love the new social now on xperia z! keep it up sony!

Nice to use, but the widget is bad. Should more improvement.
Make it larger to see and to scroll in widget. please…

i updated it on xperia zr… i dnt know one thing… i cant add my location whnever i try to update my status,,,
more over one more problem i want to show below my status sent from sony xperia smartphone… but whn i update status throught this app it shows sent via socialife…
i mn any soln for this guyz???

  • Shimoda

You can change the widget ! if you look closely, there is another icon next to the refresh button.. but it seems that there are only 3 new feeds, one for facebook, one for youtube, and one for twitter.. Thats kinda sad ;/

  • Nguyen Eazy

    nice design, fast and smooth!

but the widget is not appeal enough :>

  • Mario Bartolac

Well true, but wait a year and everybody will be using it, cuz google is merging all it’s services into google plus (games,..). Anyhow you got to have options.

Anyway.. all in all a nice app from Sony, keep up the good work. Had I not discovered Taptu a month ago, I would use it on a day to day basis. It’s still nothing better that all the other feed agregators. Maybe that is what they are going for, that’s ok, but myself personally would like to see this app to become an important part of the sony ecosystem.

simple, fast and yet amazing new design , sony is going in the right way :D keep it up

  • Bill Lockhart

    Love the new look.
    Definitely better performance.
But , many of you may think it unimportant, I was hoping to have that “via Sony Xperia …” when posting on facebook.

  • James Earley

Much improved, I may actually start using Socialife again on my Z.

  • pixlas

    Love it

  • Diogo Simões

    i want it to!

  • the_black_dragon

Big Step into the right direction!
but it still Needs a lot of work.
    – stuttering scroll on 1080p devices
    – sometimes UI glitches (one time i had to close and reopen the app)
    – some layout optimization because it is a bit too much wasted space
    – last but not least: FUCKING BACKGROUND UPDATES!!!!!!
then Socialife will final be perfect and you can call it a beatiful child of Timescape :)

  • glein

Tried it on the SP, I like what they’ve done with the UI but the app itself is a bit crash-happy at times.

  • Raymond

i love my new socialife apps, its now like opera mini and flipboard combine…

  • giannikosmo

still not using it (xperia z user)

  • Ben Lim

    also for Xperia ion

  • Clarence Alvarado

Kindly port it to 2011 Xperia ICS thanks. :)

  • sfordesign

works on most sony 2012 jelly bean devices, only sony can’t figure this out. the app itself works fine but laggy. the widget… is like the most retarded one that can ever come out from any phone maker… scroll to see the content of different accounts, and that’s it?! seriously who in sony came out with this stupid idea? – –

  • Andrie Putra

    agree here…

  • Anonymous

I installed the apk from the xda website on my Nexus 4 but after the installation process, I get error message: “app not installed” ??? Anybody knows what’s the problem please?

  • lander

but it doesn’t retrieve status updates like the great old timescape app.
I’ve been having to refreshing it and still got nothing.
So what do you love about it????

  • [A]dri[A]n

Much improved, but it still needs background updates and you should be able to add pictures to status updates. Then it will be a useful app.

  • Utsav Shah

It does install from Play store but when you start the app, it says your device is not supported.
    Bull****!

  • Ben Lim

    thanks!

  • lol

did u guys read or not which device support socialife in google play store. read 1st what its said

  • fubhknk

The play store tells me I can’t install it on my xperia s…
Why sony keep ignoring last year flagship?

  • Ace! I’ve been using it for a few days on my SP and switched to it as my Twitter client. I’d love to see:
    – conversation view (big miss, would really enhance the single tweet view),
    – location when tweeting,
    – hopefully @name completion from who you’re following.

Is there a “proper” way to give feedback, feature suggestions, bugs etc?

  • Okazuma

THX, works very fine on Xperia S ;)

  • josesl16

It’s… not there in the Play Store? Anyone have the apk?

  • raf
  • Le Lion

    Thank you
