Xperia Z1s for T-Mobile US leaks again; is this the Z1 mini?

in Rumours, Xperia Z1

Xperia Z1s for T-MobileA new image of the “Xperia Z1^s” has leaked from @evleaks. It is exactly the same phone leaked by evleaks back in October 2013. There has been some confusion over whether this was a refresh of the Xperia Z1 i.e. sporting a 5-inch display or whether this was a mini version with 4.3-inch 720p display.

Well a tweet from @evleaks with the specs claims that this is indeed the Xperia Z1 mini or “Xperia Z1s” as it will likely be called. Yes, the phone looks almost identical to the Xperia Z1 (L39t) that launched in China recently, which is why we thought the Xperia Z1s would be a 5-inch model.

There is one difference though, if you look carefully, this phone has two port flaps on the left side, compared to one for the L39t which eschewed the micro SD memory card slot. Maybe Sony is launching two phones at CES, the Xperia Z1 for T-Mobile (to be called the Xperia Z1s) and the Xperia Z1 mini and perhaps @evleaks has confused both models.

If @evleaks information is correct it means the global Xperia Z1 mini (Xperia Z1s) will look completely different to the Japanese Xperia Z1 mini (Xperia Z1 f), despite the fact that the specs look identical. The announcement for the Xperia Z1s looks a dead cert for the CES press event later today, so we’ll keep you posted.

Why can’t they do just ONE phone and sell it everywhere like Apple does?

  • xperiaDROID

Apple is Apple, Sony is Sony. Apple is in iOS world, we are in Android world. In the Android world, you have a lot of choices. In iOS world, it’s only an iPhone, either buy the new iPhone or buy the old iPhone if you want to save money. It’s up to you.

    Android, it’s nothing like anything.

  • Z

Because they dont have the “power” that Apple has.

  • xperiaDROID

Now, this is what you call a true mini. Take note, Samsung and HTC!

  • xperiaDROID

Apple doesn’t give you power, they give you nutrition.

  • Abhijeet Mishra

I think he meant why Sony doesn’t sell a particular device in the same shape and form all over the world, instead of making variants with name changes, haha.

  • spfan

But, if you will take the photo into consideration, it looks big. It really looks like the Z1 with some changes. There might be a mini but I think the photo might be wrong.

  • the z1f looks a whole lot rounder than the z1mini

i thought the zf looked round due to it’s size now the z1 mini instantly got interesting to me

  • lon

Until now theres no update in xperia v, t, and sp :( plss released it now!

  • ….

    Say what??

  • noikj

Well you dont have anything else in the picture that puts it in perspective so you cant possibly say that it is wrong.

  • lmfao

LoL thaks. That phrasing left me mind fucked @_@

  • ryq24

I bet Samsung next s5 mini will have the same features as the S5 and its all because of the sony z1 mini.

  • Mhar Jayson Cortez

I believe few more hours sp will have the update also hoping t and v also have the update. Its been 2weeks since we saw the certification build from ptcrb so it will roll later :)) cross finger

  • xperiaDROID

You can’t urge Sony to release the update, maybe they’re fixing some bugs on the update. If Sony release the update right away, you will whine like a baby.

  • spfan

If the dimensions are supposed to be smaller, the camera should look bigger. It still looks like the one in Z1.

  • Bryan Ng

Apple sells their phone everywhere, but i don’t think everyone buys it. There’s no such device that fits to all man. Variety is still the best marketing strategy IMO.

  • spfan

If the dimensions are to be smaller, the camera should look bigger. It isnt. It still looks like the one in Z1. Maybe the photo is the t mobile version of z1. Just an opinion.

How is he a Samsung fan, and since when did Xperia Blog is for Sony fans only? You’re embarrassing us, man.

  • Tech Gospel

I still think they should just have ONE flagship base chipset, in 3-4 different form factors: 3.5″ (micro), 4.5″(mini), 5.5″(standard), 6.5″ (phablet) … only thing that should differ is physical size/screen and battery capacity. This would allow easier software updates, greater app compatibility across the whole range, and lower production costs per handset since the main board would be identical for all.

  • RG

Naaaah this ain`t Z1 mini… maybe Z1s will be the mini retail name but the picture is wrong. This picture is much closer to the Z1 than the Z1f so I bet it`s a 5 incher.

    You didnt get the irony…

  • 5c and 5s sure is one phone

  • Lunkz

Because they think every country has it own taste.
Its true, but only the taste of food and not technology.
There is so much incredible Hardware in Japan only.

  • boosook

Exactly! :-) Just one version of the z1 mini, with the same name all over the world and a clear indication of when it will be available in every country.

  • cherry

thats hot! the leaked phone even sweating. (:

  • Utsav Shah

I am gonna grab this one !!

  • cherry

samsung: mini in size, mini in spec, full scale in price.

  • rossi

It looks like xperia sp without illumination bar

  • ka skaya

and which one is which one……?

  • starkiller306

I like the Z1F’s design. this looks cheap. i mean, look at the hole on the back for the microphone as compared to the Z1F’s slot. anyway i’m hoping this is the t-mobile exclusive lte phone and not the Z1 mini. fortunately this looks exactly like the lte Z! released in china, so, fingers crossed :D

  • sss

    Jelly Bean ? LOOOL

  • jourama

  • starkiller306

i agree with all that u said except for the screen sizes. not many people would but the 3.5 incher or 5.5 incher. it’s too big and too small. 3.5 inch phones are too useless anyway. not much you can do with them. reading webpages or books would be a pain.

  • starkiller306

exactly. this is the same phone that’s released in china with LTE. hopefully not the mini.

  • zairolafzal zainal

Maybe it because the pattern issue and maybe the xperia end names already being used in certain country. I assume…

  • starkiller306

  • Cudako

This isnt a z1 mini, look at the middle of the top, there is the 3,.5mm headphone, this is the model from USA T-Mobile… Definitely

  • Tech Gospel

I may be alone in this, but I do miss my Xperia ray (3.3″)… the size was just perfect (edge to edge, Sony could theoretically fit a 4″ in the same shell), would love to have an updated one with a quad core and better battery life. For people like me who use tablets all the time, there’s no need for a 4.5″ or larger phone, I use it primarily for email/IM/hotspot since I got my tablet. So maybe a 4″, 5″, 6.5″ instead?

  • sulre

I hope the IPS display will remain as in the Z1f, Sony!!!

  • Ryan

    Z1s is the Z1 carrier version for T mobile, China mobile… not Z1 mini…
Insider of Sony mobile China has clarified it.

  • gunboat_d

Realities of the market, particularly Japan. What’s wrong with multiple models? Why doesn’t Apple make more than 2 phones? why does Samsung have 50 phones?

  • InspectorGadget80

Why only on T Mobile again? Sony u still haven’t learn how to push your u.s. sales

  • InspectorGadget80

Galaxy phones aren’t water proof, stop trolling.

  • Icefraction

    Its so mini
