Sony ‘Sirius’ flagship to have 5.2-inch display and heading to Verizon? Sony ‘Castor’ tablet on the horizon too

in Rumours, Sony Tablet, Xperia Z2

Sony Xperia Tablet Z logoThe Xperia Z1 Compact has just been released, but we know what people really want to know is when are the real 2014 Xperia flagship details coming. @evleaks is at it again and dispute his confusion over the Xperia Z1s picture and specs, he says that the 2014 flagship codenamed “Sirius” should be announced at MWC in February and will come with the Qualcomm Snapdragon MSM8974-AB chipset and 5.2-inch display. He also says that the handset will launch with Verizon in the United States, which is good news for the company’s push into that market.

He also says that a Sony Xperia tablet powered by the same MSM8974-AB chipset is coming with the codename “Castor”. Like the Xperia Tablet Z, it will be available in both Wi-Fi and LTE variants. Rumours of another high-end phone codenamed “Canopus” have also been swirling around, this is expected to launch later in the year.

    What about Xperia Tianchi???
    6 inch octacore!!!

  • Mohit Gupta

Lovely! However I wish the next flagship should be worth enough so that I can upgrade my xperia Z

  • Hans

Not sure about the new codenames as they sound a tad too generic

Older generation Xperias has better names : Thor, Amami, Honami, Odin, Hayabusa etc

Also in before the inevitable 4.3 updates whining and read this page in English:

  • judging from the leaks having a thick top and thin bottom and the picture sony themselves posted (see below)

i think this is what the phone will look like

with thinner bezels it will probably be as big as the z1

  • @atWidget

    I think this is the Z1 + bad photoshop…

  • Fapples Christos Karadimas

Sony Sirius will be international or verizon’s exclusive

  • xperiaDROID

Great! I can’t wait to see what the Z2 will be like. I hope Sony will surprise me with their Z2, or else Oppo, LG, or HTC next flagship will attract me

  • howij

still no update for Sony Xperia SP !!! why Sony why???

  • xperiaDROID

    Because you’re annoying.

  • Mac

You mean the Z1 compact right? not Z compact.

  • jumbo3220

common…just wait. you will get it some day! more wait means more stable rom..

  • Tjaldid

I think they increased the screen size to reduce the bezel

  • Prasanth Namboothiri

Don’t release another Flagship before Q3 and don’t ruin Z1

  • Diogo Simões

    SmartBand from Sony!
    I love it!

  • may or may not be sony themselves posted it

  • Muka

cause you’re an idiot. There’s barely any difference with the updates that would truly affect your lifestyle. If in the future you want updates ASAP then get the flagship. Otherwise, you get what you pay for

  • I think this makes more sense than a smartwatch. Who would want a watch that needs to be recharged daily. Or even weekly.

  • Netto Dashius Hexareus

So no Snap805 device? Darn it…

  • Guest

And the smartwatch is chunky, this looks really interesting, as it vibrates to let you know that you have a text as well as being discreet. Wondering what the price will be and I hope XperiaBlog follows this.

  • sad

…I should wait for the CES :'( I ordered the band from jawbone ‘UP’…

  • Diogo Simões

    99€ they said

  • Anukul

Taking the world by storm. The sony style …..

  • Anukul

its actually : buy z1s + ps4 and you get a sony $100 gift card. I saw the ces presentation

  • ????????? ?????

I do not think Sony will release its flagship for 2014 with SD805 on MWC 2014 as well as any other manufacturers, Qualcamm has just announced their new processor. Sony’s real flagship with Snapdragon 805 most likely will appear on IFA 2014 in Autumn.

  • Prateek Bhanushali

Xperia Flagship at MWC alongside with S5 !!! Perfect…. We will have fun comparing these two :D
And “Canopus” might be “Ultra 2”

  • Mokhtar Mouhib

Woow sony controle the world again, yeaaaaaaah just wooow

    forget it buddy

  • So is this going to be a Verizon exclusive?

  • Booty

    OMG are you sirius?

  • redwan

Sony xperi z2 code name is Sirius.

  • Prateek Bhanushali

Now Sony is getting Serious… :D

  • wick

To sum up the specs till now
    5.2 inch 2K Display
    3GB RAM
    3500MAH battery
Damn this phone is going to be awesome!
Perfect replacement for my Xperia Z!
Hope sony does the required improvements such as IPS display with no compromise to the viewing angles and good quality speaker
BTW S5 AND The new xperia will go head to head interesting!

  • Amir

SWEEEEET! but they need to grab snapdragon 805! SM8974-AB is s800 if i’m not mistaken. anyway, a killer phone.

  • Amir

you are wrong about canopus. it’s rumored to have 5 inch display. i guess it’s will be a sidekick to the Z2. like ZL.

  • sadly i think they will always cheap out on the displays they don’t seem to care what displays their phones have which is ironic considering sony of all are brilliant at making good screens

  • JHMBB2

Interesting, why is Sony sticking with single carriers? I know they want to ease into the market, but I don’t think they’ll get anywhere tip toeing everywhere. Just jump in!

  • Prateek Bhanushali

May be you are right…. It could be an alternate to Z2 !!!

  • doraemonboi

Hopefully Sony can make the USB port to be waterproof too? So we don’t have to worry about the rubber wearing off. My Z wear off after 11-12 months.

  • InspectorGadget80

    Stop posting bad image/spam

  • InspectorGadget80

Would be nice if SONY puts their phones ON SPRINT VERIZON AT&T on all carriers that includes pre paid

  • InspectorGadget80

    The best of SONY

  • so you think a picture by sony on a sony related page is spam and a bad picture

  • roeshak

Now something to sink our teeth into at last. It all hinges on the design of this phone. More big bezels and we’re in for a shocker. Hope to see a better camera on this too than what is on the z1.
Couldn’t care less about the processor to be honest. The design is critical.

  • Reventon

What happened to “[Xperia Z1] is our strongest selling smartphone to date and will continue as our flagship into 2014.”?

  • Lunkz

5,2 inch is to big my Z and Z1 are on the limit with the size.

  • Lunkz

    I’m going to buy it!
I have my Phone always muted and can’t feel the vibration of my phone when im out or at work so the vibration function is really nice to wake up or check messages.

  • Sky

You can consider getting a charging dock so you would open the flap less

  • ~NNN~

    Why so serious… lol

  • wick

Yeah just use the dock its far wont need to open and close the flaps all the there is a special way to handle the flaps..make sure the flap the plastic by which it is connected to does not make a curve i.e it is always vertical to the need to be very careful with the Z is 10 months old and sure the charging flap has loosen a bit but once closed it fits in tightly with no problem..

  • wick

I was really hoping with the rumors that Xperia z1 compact will have a IPS LCD panel and the days of bad displays are over with 2014…but there is still hope *sigh*

  • wick

I am sure sony will fix the bezel problem with the xperia z2..size won’t be deal breaker…

  • Diogo Simões

    just like me

  • wick

I think what they meant was it will be flagship for 2 months in 2014 lol :P

  • Lunkz

I hope so, there is so much room between Display and the frame.

  • Kevin Tan

great once i get my z1s, its going to feel outdated in a month

  • Pingback: ??????????? Sony ‘Sirius’ ?????? 5.2 ??????????????????? Verizon ??? Tablet ???????()

  • Alfie De Castro

Bring it on Sony am Waiting for that Flagship to replace my Xperia Z..! Sirius and Avatar!

  • Alfie De Castro

    Dock it
I got my Xperia Z since Feb.. my only concern is the fine grain in camera glass and the headphone rubber flop

  • Alfie De Castro

Sirius is SD 800 Series meaning 805 :)

  • Ken Axel

but actually it seems as a much smaller bezels phone for me.. am I wrong?

  • Ken Axel

right, wont happen as u can use the magnetic charger instead..!

  • Funny, you’re the only one laughing. -_-
