Xperia Z2 stereo speakersThere aren’t too many smartphones that come with front-facing stereo speakers, It was one of the key marketing highlights of the HTC One and now Sony also has brought stereo speakers to its latest Xperia Z2 and Xperia Z2 Tablet flagship devices.

HTC dubbed its speaker system BoomSound, which it claimed offered sharper and richer sound through HTC’s exclusive built-in amplifiers via the dual frontal speakers. The audio experience of both phones are compared in the video below, although be mindful this is not a definitive test as it was conducted in the noisy halls at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona this week.

Thanks Dipan!

  • Giannikosmo

    Z2’s is far more better!!!

  • xperiaz6603swe

htc some little better but not much

  • Soj Varghese

    Z2 has good sound

  • LuigiGuevara

    It’s a trap!1one

  • Yehaa Afandy

better quality in Z2 and less noise

  • LuigiGuevara

This Z2 is like the iPhone Xs maybe is the last of Z family and this one have all the miss-feature from the old ones. But I’ll wait for the 2015 models (end year model)

  • Lucas Lam

I don’t usually use speaker so it’s not too important >:D<

  • 3rdflyleaf

One has more bass but considering that Z2 is a waterproof device, It did a great job!

  • Daz

HTC sounded a little tinny compared to the Z2, considering its beats too which are supposed to be good :). but certain sound settings in the menus can change all that this video is trying to show.

  • Reynaldi Sutrisno

Z2 is clear winner! Thank God

  • jake

    z 2 have more bass ?

  • sisore

    Won’t say much.
I’d rather wait for final product comparison :)

  • Sanyok1986

Z2 sounds much cleaner eventhough it is water proof but it seems that HTC has a bit more bass.

  • ZeroCools

Beats= More Bass, doesn’t necessarily make the sound better, Beats Audio on devices is more of a gimmick to play on people who believe that Beats give superior audio.

  • Vector Teh

Actually, HTC Boomsound sounds a little tiny cuz it has better bass response, while Z2 is very good at treble notes judging by the video. =)

  • danycagiva

Thats a new walkman on the z2. It has the sidebar from play music

  • Michael Hofmann

I think most of the difference between the speakers actually comes from Sony’s Xloud and Clear audio+ technology

  • Chris

Well to be fair we should probably wait for the new HTC One before making the comparison, but still, very impressive from the Z2 for a waterproof phone.

  • Xylo

I love that walkman backgroud, it looks like PS4’s backgroud, COOL!

  • marcyff2

    Z2 has louder sound.
    HTC one has more base.

  • xperiafan324

Honestly for me, the active noise cancellation is far more intriguing, front stereo speakers are great when showing your friends a video etc.

  • AsadMulla

it is impossible for viewer of the video to determiner which one is better because of the speakers on the device your using to view the video

  • grav1ty

oh my god boomsound gets owned! wouldn’t expect that..
Definitely you hear more details at Z2 speakers, maybe it’s the equalizer but that doesn’t matter, cz on htc it’s the same.. but in comparison without tweaking z2 is clearly the winner

  • Mac

You got that right man, although I like beats because I like bass very much and also the design of headphones. But it’s not the best value for money when it comes to audio quality.

  • jonyah

The only thing that’s definitive from this video is that Sony fixed the bad speaker issue of the Z/Z1. The overall sound sounded better to me than the HTC, but I could say that it’s at least as good as HTC which makes it a huge improvement.

  • lee jun-hoe

Agreed. There’s a big noticeable difference between turning those settings on or off.

  • SM

I only care about internal headphone/earphone sound quality. Sony give us more boosted clearer sound with deep bass. That it used to be once upon a time in w700i.

Let’s just agree that both phones shit on the note 3 speaker. The note 3 is known to have a terrible speaker. So with terrible speakers and cheap cheesy plastic why do people still buy their products is beyond me.

  • Colby Leong

Out of all the devices Samsung makes I think they got the phablet range down pretty good. With the integration of the S-Pen and the many other features exclusive to Samsung’s tablet line. Minus the speakers, Samsung is ahead in the phablet offerings, but hopefully the Xperia Z2 Ultra will change that.

  • Colby Leong

Of course the Z2 is better, and for all we know he might not have even activated the Clear Audio+, or Surround Sound. HTC and Beats are dealing with a company that brought us the innovative and portable Walkman.

  • Michael Remy

HTC two spearkers are better located than the xperia z2 one’s !
Sony choose a bad location for the speakers : on the side ! where the hand, the case will be !!! so, the speaker will be muted-hide by the hand or the case !!!!
HTC speakers are on the REAL front ! right to the ears !

  • Felipe Pimenta

Sony ones are a bit more hidden, in the very border, but both are on what you call real front.

  • P9

    I love how sony listening us… <3 :)

  • Netto Dashius Hexareus

The quality in Z2 is much better than in HTC One. But in bass aspect, HTC One is a winner. But still, Z2 is overall better than HTC One. AND PLUS THE USB DAC WHICH CLEARLY KICK ONE’S ASS.

  • Rizky Maulana

    bass = htc one
treable and more clear = z2

why not play both together ??? :v

  • Brad Williams

Well I will be using my Z2 with my Beats ear buds so I guess I will get a win win. :D

  • asian101

Beats=Bloated Artificial Bass Low Frequency Bad. Go get yourself a Sennheiser, Hifiman, Audio Technica, Shure, Denon, or even a Sony. Trust me, you’ll never go back.

  • zairolafzal zainal

Both have a great sound but my vote will be xperia z2 because it a waterproof device and sony manage to create a good sound quality even the speaker beibg modified to make it survive after submerge into water. Sony have fix a lot of issue for their waterproof device. Goodjob sony.

  • Andrew

The Z2 sounds surprisingly balanced for a set of waterproof speakers. This makes me wonder why the Z and Z1 couldn’t have had a set of speakers like these.

  • valentino

you using sony devices and yet still use that kids ear buds?? dude sony ear buds is far better than beats… –‘

  • xperia Z` user

  • HardyHarHar

There’s no difference between the 2! All you guys judging are just either bias comments or placebo effect. You can’t distinguish the loudness of a speaker just by using a microphone from a video camera. It would limit the sound input into it’s capacity and output it as the same.

i don’t care who is the best here since i only listening to my music collection using IEM. to bad digital noise cancelation only available in sony own earphone.
    but love Z2 improvement

  • nidou bossy

    Z2 sound is better!
BTW: waterproof protection decrease the sound of the speakers!
Imagine if it wasn’t a waterproof which will make the sound x2 higher than it is…

  • roeshak

Z2 does very well to keep pace with the one considering it’s waterproof. I have to say though loud external speakers on a phone isn’t something I’m terribly concerned about. I think it’s the stuff of juveniles who’s only goal in life is to irritate others in public spaces.

The z2 is much better the HTC One sounds tinny and I had a HTC One until I sold it last week (and I have a z1) so I’m not being biased, great job Sony! Looks like my z1 is going up for sale :p

  • Jan

Its hard to tell basing only on this video. My friend have HTC One and the sound was very good until he dropped smartphone few times and these aluminium speakers covers got tired sound is bit worse than in beggining. Hope Xperia Z2 Stereo speakers are good as HTC One or better :)

Z2 is one of the first to have stereo speakers as well as 2 of them, so I hope Sony does a good job with it on their cell phone; since they are one of the best when it comes to sound. This is an important factor for me over my XZ.

  • Sumo

He could have played a better song man… heavy metal or hard rock would have been nice :D But it sounds loud enough for me, Z2 is luring me away like a succubus luring a guy away for sex… before being sucked away LOL~ The HTC is loud to, but the sound has a lot of noise and cracking.

  • lau

hope the s-master can join in the xperia

doesn’t sound too bad but there are so moony variables involved. i can’t wait to see it in a quiet environment

  • aries monte

in smartphone no need bass sound, the most important is loud and clear, z2 wins

  • Stephen

the z2 sound seems clearer maybe not as loud though, but htc seems scratchy at the start and same song sounds rougher on htc, maybe its just cos its in an open space

  • arcwindz

Sony seems to be better and better with each release. If they ever launch a non waterproof phone next year, i will probably buy it

Z2 speakers are on the front up and down on the device like htc one :-D not on the side

  • cesar suarez

El Z3 va se mejor :P

  • Brad Williams

I love the way morons in here think they know everything and will attack over shit…… Not. Nothing drastically wrong with the Sony buds but……My ears, my money go fuck yourself!!!

  • Brad Williams

I’m glad there is so many “experts” in here to tell us all what we should buy according to them. :D :D

  • Libyan Guy

yeah real Stereo Speakers ! SONY used to be the best here , sound clear cant wait until playing my music through this baby .

  • valentino

    dude i don’t use the F* word. –‘
you don’t need to use that F word.
if you just want to type My ears, My money. Just type it.
    No need use that word.
this is why freedom is not good for people who abuse it.
in your case freedom in express yourself. have some attitude.
Anyway That Xperia Z2 product already bundled with a great Sony earbuds and compatible with the digital noise cancellation they invent.

  • Utsav Shah

the sound quality seems great and the Bass is pretty decent too!
I think Sony nailed it this time !!

  • Brad Williams

So now you think it fine to dribble crap on my post and tell me what to say and how to say it!!! You’re kidding…… Don’t quickly jump on others comments offending them and think you’ll get away with it in future. You don’t want to be abused?…. Think before you type nonsense on another’s posts…….. Especially if it has my name on it. I don’t appreciate garbage on my posts.

  • valentino

    Yeah okay you win.. Thx.

  • Have you seen the Xperia Tablet Z2 giveaway on facebook from Sony?

  • francesco

clear audio+ really sucks, it’s the first thing i disabled on my phone…

  • lee jun-hoe

Lol I’m not a fan of clear audio either. Though it’s nice to have the option there.

I’m talking more about Xloud. That really increases the output volume and clarity.

  • francesco

    xloud it’s a good feature… ;)

  • Tanya Janjarasskul

Clearly, Z2 sounds better. If you know this reviewer, he never gave any good rating to any Sony device.

Well I just loved the Bang and Olufsen H6… They’re perfect for an Audiophile/Hipster. Great quality, beauty and the sound is just amazingly balanced. It’s signature is just awesome. I’d recomend them to anyone.

  • Divya Bharathi

Very interesting thing I just come across at – I could choose any number of jewellery items (from the list) at very heavy discount rates (up to 75% off online) – more we buy more discount – I never seen this before.
