New Xperia Z2 update (17.1.A.2.55) released; primarily bug-fix improvements [Update]

by XB on 3rd April 2014

in Firmware, Xperia Z2

Xperia Z2_17.1.A.2.55There are not that many Xperia Z2 handsets in consumers hands at the moment, especially as the handset has only hit Taiwan so far. Well a new firmware build with version number 17.1.A.2.55 is currently rolling to Xperia Z2 handsets running the “Commercial & Journalists” customisation number. We would expect it to hit Taiwanese handsets in due course. The update is primarily a bug-fixing update, although the NFC logo no longer appears in the status bar. This could be a day one update for the Xperia Z2 when the handset finally starts its limited roll out globally later this month.

Update: The FTF firmware file can be downloaded from here.

Update 2: Sony has confirmed the update is rolling and has also included the changelog below:

– Improved camera performance & function with faster start time and better auto focus
– Enhanced in-call audio with fine tuned noise cancellation
– Improved FM radio function
– Graphics improvements with smoother scrolling and image movement
– Improved stability with the latest bug fixes and enhancements

no news about Z at all…
anyway no much problem, enjoy the awesome 4.3.

  • Nidou

does the 4.3 in Z has problems?

if so, what problems you have encountered exactly ?

  • Dion

I don’t know what SONY takes so long to release KIT KAT for Xperia Z, Xperia ZL, Xperia Tablet Z…. they always focus on the newer phones.

  • You do realise downvotes don’t show anymore with Disqus, right?
That ‘poll’ idea doesn’t work anymore, obviously.

And my 13 months old FLAGSHIP Xperia Z still not updated, no word from sony except from “will be Q1”, then “will be Q2” etc… getting annoying, just one year and my phone is already at the end of the queue ? No wonder people go for iPhone or Windows Phone, at least you get the update simply when it’s available for everyone…

  • Zanet Dan

Windowsphone? Stop talking crap. They dont even get updates from 7.5 to 8, 8 to 8.1 etc

  • I can’t imagine how beastly the Z2 is gonna be with the next major Android on it. Sony is the best mobile software company, I’m sorry. IT IS!

DO NOT FLASH IF YOU HAVE THE TAIWAN Z2! It will not read the SIM! Make sure you get the TW version once that comes out! I had to learn the hard way and flash back to the original TW ROM!

  • TCT

Yeah all iPhones gets updated forever to the latest iOS minus certain features. That sounds good until you realise that your old hardware is simply does not have the processing power for the latest iOS version and there is absolutely no way to go back to the previous version. Lag, major lag, makes you wish Apple didn’t make the update available.

  • Sokol363

    All 8 get 8.1, bro :)

  • Ryan Liao

Already start to roll out in Taiwan today.

All Z letters from Sony are great!

What nonsense? 4.2 was given in may then they said 4.3 in december, you got it december! Now they have said 4.4 in mid Q2, and you will get it then! They never promised anything for Q1! So pls don’t lie, you anti Sony PR activist!

ANd this is a bug fix update, Z got a bug fix update for 4.3 before t.tx.v even got 4.3!!! And WP don’t get updates when its simply out there, it takes 3-6 months to get those updates and by then there is a new one out within a month!

The update is now live for TW retail phones as well, definitely reads my SIM.
And the NFC icon is still there, by the way…

    are you thai?

  • P9

    no, I’m Cambodian. <3

  • Nidou

    ok :)

True… and what’s more if you go to Xperia T main site there’s info about KitKat tests of stability… after 2 years! I remember when it was 4.0 ICS out from the box, now I have the Z2 and T nearby in a drawer. Sony never left old models behind they just don’t update the ones that fail the tests in stability or accu consuption. I would do the same, focus on new model, don’t leave previous behind.

Sony started the mobile business in 2013 with the Z, before that ericsson was running the show! So sony is slow voz they are learning… They will be excellent in 2 years or so…

And yes we are entitled to complain coz they are slow update givers, but we cant lie that they never give updates… They update the maximum amount of phones compared to any other android manufacturer…. M got 4.3, E1 will get 4.4

SP got 4.3, s4 mini stuck on 4.3 since launch although kitkat is cconfirmed!
