20140423_bSome were surprised when the Xperia Z2 Tablet used the same resolution as its predecessor i.e. a 10.1-inch (1920 x 1200) WUXGA resolution display with 224 PPI. Well judging by the latest development from Japan Display Inc (JDI) it looks like we might see a 10.1-inch 4K2K (3840 x 2160) IPS display (438 PPI) land on the next iteration of the Xperia Tablet.

JDI has begun shipping samples of this new display for tablets. The display incorporates low-temperature poly silicon (LTPS) technology for low power consumption. JDI says that its power consumption is as low as a 10.1-inch WQXGA (2560 x 1600) LCD display. Given Sony’s strong support of the 4K format across its phones, televisions, cameras, camcorders and video content it would be no surprise to see a tablet launch with such a resolution next year.

    so
    4K screen
    4GB Ram
    64-bit processor
for the Z3 tablet… SOLD!!!…. as long as the battery gets a sizeable upgrade

  • XTZ

Agree with battery. Not great on my Xperia Tablet Z, let alone with a much higher res screen. Dat 4K tho.

  • Gitarooman

Is the GPU in S810 even good enough for 4k @ 60Hz? Don’t want to go backward to laggy Android age.

  • Anukul

It rather be 2560 x 1600 and I am still very happy

  • Adrian969

And 64 GB internal storage is a must for next gen tablets.

  • Stephen

the xperia z phone had ips options yet it took till z2 phone to actually get ips
meanwhile sony continue the trend on their tablets
above screen using the sony trend is 3 tablets away

  • David van der Zande

Just bought the Z2 tablet, I can’t see any individual pixels and it has great colors. No need for a 4K display.

  • xperiafan324

The gpu of in the 805 is capable of running a 4k display as good as an S800 in a 2k screen. At least that’s what qualcomm’s press release implied.
So yes the screen will be crazy sharp, and Android will be buttery smooth with an s810.

I have a question for anyone who owns a Z2 or Z2 tablet, I was reading the reviews for both devices on TheVerge and they said that while the screen is a massive boost over other Xperia devices, when you use the phone outside in the sun you can barely see anything. They pretty much said that the screens were, “useless in the summer”. So just wondering how true that is.

  • DStyle

    Nice. I might get one.

  • Charles222

I’ll point out that there’s no way in hell the Verge had a review copy last summer, and this summer isn’t here yet. :p

    So yeaaah. :p

This will not make it to the Z3.
This is in prototype form and not ready for mass production.

  • Kaostheory

Verge is very Apple biased. Check out the other reviews.

  • mohit

    Verge for apple,
    Gsmarena for Samsung
    3.co.uk for sony and htc
    Android authority for sony
    Erica griffin for sony

  • JG

when did erica griffin became a sony fan? She’s mostly criticizing Sony flagship since xperia z, ultra, etc.

  • roeshak

If you want unbiased reviews and not places where they claim the iPhone is king and the htc m8 is the second coming of Christ, head over to btekt.com. Basil is the man!
I’ve got the z2 and have no problems whatsoever in direct sunlight. The screen is actually brighter than z

  • Ranjeet

Hope 5.4 inch 2k jdi display makes its way on xperia z3!!

  • Arthur Simon

It would need W8.1 Other ways NO THANK YOU

  • Tjaldid

I’m not sure how capable the Intel Atom processor is at running 4K but I agree it would be nice to have two variants, 1 android and 1 W8.1 and perhaps one also with Ubuntu Touch

Sony xperia z3 might come with Android 5.0, octa-core processsor and 4gb Ram and many more.

  • shubham

s-pen is must for next sony xperia tablet…..

I think when you utilize the telephone outside as a part of the sun you can scarcely see anything. They essentially said that the screens were, “futile in the June through August timeframe”. So simply considering how genuine that is. I would like to say Thanks for sharing such a nice article.
    Large Tablet

  • cyun84

Actually I totally agree with the Verge. It isn’t being biased; it’s simply telling the truth. I’ve owned an Xperia Z1 for 6 months and received obtained a review unit of the Z2. The colors and viewing angles are much better. But it weirdly now has the same flaws of the older Galaxy phones: videos are inexplicably darker and lack punch like the Z1, and it is way dimmer than its predecessor. The Z2 tablet though is a much, much better device.

    apparently you dont see shit
