Xperia Z2 Drop Test_2We can safely say that the Xperia Z2 is a warrior phone. In the drop test video below, we winced every time the handset dropped, but the Xperia Z2 took it like a champ. At the end of three rounds, the Xperia Z2 was still standing and very functional.

Yes, the Xperia Z2 did suffer some scratches on the frame and a small part of the display suffered from dead pixels but there were no cracks in the glass and the touchscreen was still working fine. It highlights the great job that the Sony engineers have done in constructing such a durable device. See the video below.

Thanks Ben!

    Great video!

Z1 acutally dyed but Z2 got it right!!! so cool

  • Makiz

And in a previous Xperia blog post people complain about self-breaking glasses

  • Jonathan

maybe im really unlucky but mine had the screen broken the first time it felt and the touch wasn’t working anymore… Well i may be unlucky cuz i had S,T,Z,SP,Z ultra and now this one and they all were quite strong only SP screen broke but that was because i threw it at the wall.

  • Timbo1

Different phone I think. Wasn’t the Z1 Compact that supposedly had random cracking screens?

  • Clarence Alvarado

Now, dip it underwater! Let’s see!

    Dude use your accidental warranty…..

  • azhy

Lol sony. Our phone is not needed to be strong to hold drops, because without dropping you cracked your devices by your kitkat update. Its like dropped from second floor hhhh its so laggy and without a bettery and it became a heater so we can warm ourselves by it in winter.

  • Sadman Khan

Why…would you throw it….oh well nevermind

  • Emil Oskarsson

Are you talking about the android 4.4 kitkat update for the first xperia Z phones? (ZL, ZR, Z, Tablet Z and so on?) Because i dont have any issue with the update, no battery drain no lags to talk about or what so ever. Things just got smoother and games runs faster then before, apps also open much faster now and the over all experience of the software is improved. However if you are suffering from anything like lags, battery drain or overheating issues please use the internet and search for how to solve theese problems. Dont blame Sony for great software….. Thanks

  • Jonathan

I didn’t take it with the phone because here it’s quite expensive and i usually take care of my phones and the base warranty isn’t going to cover it because it was my fault of dropping it… by the way i live in switzerland maybe warranty doesn’t work the same way here…

  • Ethan ‘blaze’ Parker

Errm? The article is about Z2? My Z2 is definitely not laggy or heats up on the Kitkat.

  • dreamgs1

:) no need to drop phone. it has self cracking capability. that is the greatness of flagship phone.

  • dreamgs1

  • darannechelle

    Try to restart it sometimes!!

  • texterted

So it must be a design flaw causing cracks on the screens of the Z1’s and z2’s then?

  • Prateek Bhanushali

Here in India we get free warranty with the handset…. If you are even bored (not likely though with XZ2 :D) Just bang the phone down and take it to the service station… Get replaced :D

  • jag

people nowadays don’t know the word reboot/ restart. They think that a device or a machine would run smooth and problem free everyday without giving it a rest. so abusive.

  • Sreekanth Namboothiri

Proud to be an owner of Z2 :)

  • JG

Are you also talking ’bout the z1? Because mine on kitkat doesnt lag. Probably, you really need to delete some internal files or shut down your phone once in a while.

  • azhy

After upgrading your z2 to another update like android 4.5, its just an example because maybe the next one is 5.0. However your device will be come useless like it had happened to my z and z1. Specially when z3 releases. Look at sony s history every single phone of them was like that beaide that sony is learning his mistakes that he done to fix it in next flagship which is by our money. We pay and be should teach sony its mistakes is that fair? My z cracked for it self not just mine my friends to. And the camera they have learned afew months ago lol to fix it. If sony continue like its past believe me next year in this time sony will broke. And when you receive the next upgrade you will delete your comment and you will post another comment you say you were right.

  • SinaKing

Sony done it Well … <3

  • josesl16

I think it’s Z1 only, and probably quality control instead of design flaw.

  • josesl16

Please don’t do that lol, abusing warranty/insurance doesn’t do any good for the others that really needs it.

  • Sreekanth Namboothiri

Proud to be an owner :)

Can we call it SP2 ???

  • jackie57479

the back panel in the xperia z breaks when the phone overheats too much. its not that people are trying to make fool of themselves. its the truth. it happened with my xperia z

  • Makiz

I live in Greece, the temperature goes from -5 in the winter to +42 C° during the summer, I also happen to own an Xperia Z for 15 months and the back glass goes from freezin hell to super hot all the time (because of the CPU of course) yet it remains intact and I wish it will stay this way till I sell it to buy Z3 :P
A friend of mine broke it btw by putting it in his back pocket….

  • Alemco Don

yo, when will we see the ‘toddler flings Z2 out of moving car test’, because my Xperia S handled that without any issues on a number of occasions, as well as being dropped from much higher….is my Z2 as strong my S??

The Z1 seems very flimsy on other online drop tests i saw (stopped working after 1st drop).
