Xperia Z2 update (17.1.2.A.0.189) on the horizon

by XB on 2nd June 2014

in Firmware, Xperia Z2

Xperia Z2_17.1.2.A.0.189Firmware version 17.1.1.A.0.402 was recently released for the Xperia Z2 and Xperia Z2 Tablet. Well it looks like another update is on the horizon, this time with build number 17.1.2.A.0.189.

A screenshot with this build number shows the new firmware running on the Xperia Z2 HSPA+ (D6502). If we do see it released, it would move the firmware from build number 17.1.1.A.0.XXX to 17.1.2.A.0.XXX, suggesting a reasonable bug-fixing update if nothing else. We’ll bring you more news as we have it.

This has got to be a joke!

I currently own a sim-free Z2 purchased from Clove in the UK. My current firmware on this phone is 17.1.A.2.55. This is the build number that came with the phone. I got the ‘sim-free’ version of the phone because I thought this would avoid those awful carrier delays, boy how wrong was i!!!

Since then 2 firmware updates have been released, one was 17.1.A.2.69 and the most recent one currently rolling out is 17.1.1.A.0.402. So me in the UK am 2 firmware updates behind everyone else.

And now THIS! The Z2 now has a 3rd update on the way – 17.1.2.A.0.189. This has got to be a bloody joke! I’ll now be 3 firmware updates behind everyone else! What the hell is going on Sony UK?! Why am i still stuck with .55 in the UK when everyone else in other countries are already on .402?! Is this really how you treat your customers??

Can anyone please explain why the sim-free phones in the UK are always the LAST to receive the most recent up-to-date firmware?! When am i going to get .69 and .402. updates?
Is anyone else in the UK in the exact same boat as me???

Errm, did you try to update via Sony PC Companion or Sony Update Service apps from your computer? Because all the people in the UK I know have got their updates. You might not be seeing it via OTA.

  • SkyS1gn

Why the f**k you dont update with flastool and shut the f**k up?!

  • John

I don’t want to void my warranty, thank you very much.

  • Wayne

It doesn’t void your warranty flashing FTF’s.

  • John Zakaria

Flash Tool doesn’t void your warranty
Only unlocking your Bootloader with flashtool does !

  • SkyS1gn

You wont… with flashtool. You can update without unlocking BL.

  • John

    Ok, i didn’t know that.
My next point is i don’t know how to use flashtool or know what to do. I’m a noob.

  • Nhat Nguyen

Google. How to use flashtool or PC Companion or Sony Update Service

Update firmware through any tool above won’t effect to your phone’s warranty.

    Hi Ethan.

I downloaded Sony PC Companion to my laptop. Connected my Z2 to my laptop and loaded up Sony PC Companion. Guess what? It says i have no new updates and my firmware is still up-to-date! Yip, my .55 despite being 2 firmware updates behind everyone else is still up-to-date according to Sony. Epic fail! This is seriously pissing me off.

You said you know folk in the UK who have got .402 updates….are these people with sim-free Z2’s or Z2’s that have been provided by their network provider eg. O2, EE, Vodafone, etc? Cos something is seriously wrong here. Nothing OTA and nothing on PC via Sony PC Companion. This is f*cked up!
Why are sim-free Z2’s in the UK not receiving the most recent firmware updates?! That IS the question! Does anyone know what the hell is going on or having the same experience as me?

  • smk123

I’m in the UK and got the latest update yesterday, but yeah the UK is always shafted by Sony with updates – with my Xperia S I have up waiting and started flashing my own updates because it was getting ridiculous after a year

  • tim

Vodafone got .402 at the weekend.

Dude, check XDA forums, you might be able to get a better insight. ;)
