Sony has gone batshit crazy by doing insane things – releasing the same phone with a new moniker that’s already existing in the market, unveiling more or less same specc’ed phones with different names (Xperia M2, Xperia T3, Xperia T2 Ultra), crazy naming scheme of the phones, self-proclaiming that its Z2 has the best camera while it’s just as good as the other flagships’.

I have lost all respect for Sony. The only things I like about Sony right now are – (1) Physical design of the phone, (2) Elegant Xperia UI. If it weren’t for those two, Sony would be right among those Chinese OEMs.

I’m a fan of Sony design team, not the whole Sony.

Regardless more or less same specification of phones, releasing more phone models means more choices for consumers as in one of the marketing strategies to survive. Another S brand is doing this even at larger scales.

No, too many models and no naming conventions can be very confusing for the customer, and that’s what happens with Sony. Which model is more powerful than the other ? Which model in new than the other ? Which model is bigger ? You can’t say it easily with the name like for other brands and instead of reading dozens of specs, they’ll just go buy from another brand.

    Me too!

I totally agree that Sony’s naming conventions are really confusing, but when you look at other brands they have similar problems as well.

    • Samsung Galaxy Note 3 Neo: implies a “new” version but has worse specs than the Note 3 and isn’t really “newer”
    • Samsung Galaxy Gear 2 / Gear 2 Neo: again, the “new” one has worse specs
    • Nokia Lumia
    • HTC One –> HTC One (why is the ‘second’ version still “One”?)

  • Jumbo

You lose faith and respect for ONE thing? Man talking about short-sighted… AND you’re wrong, Sony will never drop down to those China manufactures level, the market is so vastly different.

  • Melfes Wired

but there will be no z ultra 2, or 3

  • Coolio

Does this have replaceable battery now? That would be very good.

But I hardly believe that you will be simply looking at their awesome design product and NOT having one yourself. The whole Sony team means the whole Sony you fool. Get the equation right – Sony + Design = Sony. Why do you think a majority of us are in here and supporting Sony with our hard earn money? Not simply of their product alone but their designs too. (rolls eyes)

I said fan. You don’t have to be a fan of something to buy it. The main reason why I’m an Xperia user is because of design, but of course I didn’t buy it just because of the design but it’s the main factor.
