Xperia Z2_17.1.1.A.0.438Firmware update 17.1.1.A.0.438 that was recently certified for both the Xperia Z2 and Xperia Z2 Tablet is now starting to roll out for the Xperia Z2. Sony appears to have updated the baseband of this firmware update and users are reporting better tap to wake response. We haven’t seen a wide launch of this build right now, so you may be waiting a little longer before it hits your region.

Thanks Rimas!

  • Would this be rooted by that Easy Root Tool?

  • Stanley08

My guess is yes. But we still have to wait and see. :)

  • Adrian

same question here pc companion is out of the question cause of the unlucked bootloader…… any help?

  • Davincith

why do you task the developer of towel root directly? It’s a better way to get the right answer.

  • Jeffrey

Okay what you need to do is to backup all your stuffs then flash the firmware file (ftf) using FlashTool. After finish flashing root again and restore all your stuffs.

  • xmacewin

Does anybody know if this will fix the vpn-bug reported in Android 4.4.2 ?
    (calculating wrong MTU size)

  • Abdul Ghani

android l is not officially released

  • Jim

L is nowhere.. not even released as a dev preview yet. Doesn’t even have a proper name yet for gods sake!

  • JustinRichman

DO you wanna live in past or wanna think about future?

  • Jim

The future is uncertain, the past is sealed, I’d rather live in the present..

  • mabz23

Maybe I should start worrying about the future of my z2 coz the z3 should be coming soon so I’m guessing I would receive android L update late next year

  • techielover

You don’t feel like dream about future thats why you think like that about future and about past you thought the same lol!! Anyway hope you will get android cupcake(first version of Android) on your phone soon :D

now if sony wants to be trusted as a competitor in mobile technology, should tell and release android L within 90 days (as motorola said) (and with no delays) at least for z1 and z2

  • Kaarthikeyan Swaminathan

    It is called Lollipop

  • they don’t forget something live xperia V
cause thr s an update for it now
SO they won’t forget ur Z1

  • Android L Preview !!! nothing to think about it
almost all new feature on Android L is available on CM11 Nightlies…

  • SkyS1gn

Its worked 4 me 2nd try with towelroot!

  • Kirin Han

there is no update to Z2 tablet(SGP512) with pcc or ups…even at version 402 in Taiwan

  • Ado Kanashii

thanx dude, is it posibble to instale this without wipping data¨?

  • Jeffrey

Hmm I’m not sure about that, cuz I usually backup, full wipe flash and restore. Maybe you can check XDA see if there’s alternate solution for update

  • Jim

The fact remains, Kitkat is the latest available release. No matter how much you want to live in the future, you can never escape the present.

  • pawoza

I’m sorry, but i dont understand this… I know that I probably can get the firmware from XDA, but how do I flash it? and are you saying that after I have flashed the new firmware, that I have to root it again from scratch?

Sorry fro the noob question and bad english…

  • Ado Kanashii

thanx, can i ask you wich app do you use to back everything dude?

  • zilch

can you post a link for that? thanks!

  • Jeffrey

    Titanium backup, best backup solution

  • Jeffrey

Flash it with Flashtool. Get it here: http://www.flashtool.net/install.php

Yes correct and you’ll have to restore all your apps and data because flashing new firmware = factory reset with firmware update

  • pawoza

Thank you! Just last question.. How can I do a full backup, so that I don’t lose any of my apps or data when I flash new firmware?

  • Jeffrey

Since you unlock your bootloader I assume you rooted your phone already. So use titanium backup to backup

  • With how colorful they’re making it, I’d rather start calling it Android Lifesavers.

  • Fredrik

I have Z2 with 402 firmware, there are many alarming bugs, some which carry over from Z1, I believe Z1 has probably better usability right now.
    Problem It shares with Z1:
Pocket dialling, when I put the phone down it dials a number by itself
Closing the cover does not switch off the display, you can still pocket dial with cover closed
    (SONY z2 ORIGINAL FLAP COVER)

Touch screen sensitivity, lag (often hard to turn of the alarm in the mornings as it fails to detect my fingers)

    Unique bugs with z2:
With flip cover, I cannot answer by lifting the phone to the ear
    landscape orientation not working
Wifi often refuses to connect, and I have to restart the phone to connect to wifi, Z1 did not have this problem.

It is clear that the Z2 uses the same touch comonent as Z1 and it is no where near as accurate as iphone. My Z1 has problems playing some games due to the touch screen, z2 a bit less erratic, but not an ounce more sensitive. So is it worth upgrading from a Z1 to Z2? No not at all. The Z2 has better viewing angles and disposes with the anti crash protector, but the user experience is nearly identical, with none of the major usability issues from Z1 corrected. Now it seems Z1 even has newer/better firmware out than Z2 so I am very dissapointed. Oh and I did not experience a difference in battery life, in fact it seems the new display is more power hungry compared to the Z1 one.

Z2 advantage, a slightly more polished and better design, slightly less weight.
If you have Z1 dont bother with the Z2.
