Xperia Z1 Compact holds its own against the Galaxy S5 mini

SM-G800H_GS5 mini_Black_9Samsung launched the Galaxy S5 mini smartphone earlier today. The launch of a ‘mini’ version of the company’s flagship has become a staple in the calendar release schedule for Samsung. However, whereas Sony carefully chose the ‘Compact’ moniker to define a smaller flagship handset, Samsung’s S5 mini doesn’t share the same specs as its bigger brother the Galaxy S5.

The Samsung Galaxy S5 mini has a 4.5-inch Super AMOLED 720p display and is armed with a 1.4GHz quad-core processor, 1.5GB RAM and 16GB internal storage with microSD memory card. It also includes an 8MP rear camera, 2.1MP front-facing camera, a heart rate monitor and fingerprint scanner.

One of the most interesting features of the Galaxy S5 mini is IP67 certification for water and dust resistance. However, Samsung has found a way to leave the micro USB port open i.e. there is no flap covering the micro USB socket. We don’t know how this works in practice, especially in terms of what happens if you have to charge the phone after it has been soaked.

Compared to the Galaxy S5 mini, the Xperia Z1 Compact holds up very well. Specs wise, the Xperia Z1 Compact has a faster chipset, more RAM, better optics and a higher capacity battery. However the Galaxy S5 mini has a slightly larger display in a broadly similar chassis size. The Galaxy S5 mini also includes an IR port, which is absent on the Xperia Z1 Compact. We have compared the specifications of each handset below, so you can see which handset suits you best.

nothing comes close to Xperia Z1 Compact! its a beast, a little beast.

  • Drosoulitis71

No comparison.Z1 compact kills s5 mini in all aspects…..

  • Vinayak Mehra

    100% agree

  • Marco Rocha

I own a Z1 compact and I have to say that it offers a lot more than I thought, it is tiny, extremely powerful, water resistant, amazing camera, good screen and it is very beautiful. I never thought that I’ll fall in love with the Z1c but I did xD.

Xperia Z1 Compact, The King of Mini Smartphone!!! Unbeatable Xperia Z1 Compact, GS5 Mini is nothing in front of Z1 Compact!!! Sony FTW!!! ;-)

  • cs098

Hold’s it’s own? You mean being it absolutely destroying the gs5 mini?

Can’t wait for the next version.

  • sonyguest

Z1 compact is going to make S5 mini sweat for the best small sized flagship , wonder what will happen to the mini when sony releases the Z2 compact

  • Damon Adrian

hi i’m 15 i’m thinking of buying z1c. will it last me up to 2017?

  • Xperia V User

Waiting for Xperia Z2 Compact with 4.5 inch display :)

  • Only if the Z1C came with US LTE bands, I would so own that phone. I’m not sure I would want to go back to HSPA+ speeds all the time.

  • Pineda R.

could you give me a download link of the apk?

  • Tech Gospel

Afaik, the z1c and z1 do come with US LTE bands. Someone correct me if I’m wrong.

  • Riyal

There’s no Z2 Compact only Z3 Compact that’s to be announced this coming IFA 2014 with the Xperia Z3.

  • jackfrost

I see now. ‘compact’ is superior to ‘mini’. Obviously we know who wins :)

  • Eduardo Otero

Yes it works on LTE BC4 1700/2100 Mhz

  • Sadman Khan

Let’s face it. Z1 Compact is FAR better than the other minis. It just needs some marketting. In fact, Sony could have turned things around with just this phone. Too bad they don’t realise how vital this phone can be for their business. For most people it is the perfect size and it is capable of converting the iPhone users as well.

  • Sadman Khan

Depends on your requirements really. If you just need a phone that operates fast and performs all functions, yep definitely. But don’t expect to run HD games from 2016 :P

  • Eduardo Otero

Even if you buy an Z2, S5 or One M8, it hardly last that much

  • Eduardo Otero

Totally agree, sometimes I belive there is a Samsung fan on Sony’s office

  • Batuhan Süersan
  • Harkamal Singh

S5 mini, what a Joke Infront of Z1C.. Lol

  • jag

now i know why Z1 compact had the 4.4.4 version first. because a lot of people bought it. maybe. hehe

  • Pineda R.

    now it works. thx

  • walker

pfftttt not comparable ,Z1c kil all aspect s5 mini has

  • Tech Gospel

Those are seriously lame specs. I’d rather get a moto g.

  • der

it’s not tiny – it has tiny screen, and the camera is dissapointing

  • Samsung plastic shit :D

  • Rob

It’s going to be funny when Z3 Compact shows up (hopefully soon). Considering that the current version beats the living crap out of the S5 mini, I assume the new one will obliterate it :P

  • sidewinder_x5

for sure the Z1C is way better, but when is sony going to release the successor the the SP? i’m sick of my lumia 620 and the Z1C is just too expensive right now. the M2 doesnt fit the bill.

  • ???? ??. ????? ?????.

No way Samsung… Z1 Compact is unbeatable, your phone is nothing in front of Z1 Compact.
I Wonder what will happen to the Samsung mini/s when Sony releases the another flagship Z2/3 Compact.
Z2/3 Compact is going to make Samsung sweat…
