Jolla LauncherIf you have been intrigued by the Sailfish OS which runs on the Jolla phone, then you’ll be glad to hear that the Jolla Launcher Alpha release for Android was recently ported to run on all Android devices running Android 4.2 and above.

The launcher is quite different to what most are used to providing a gesture based swipe interface. Features of the launcher include the Jolla lockscreen, Ambience and the swipe back to the homescreen gesture. If you’re interested in giving the Jolla Launcher a test run, you can download the apk here – install it as normal, no root necessary.

Only these will help me now as Sony isn’t providing any support to me. Still on Android 4.3 (Xperia Z)

it’s nice. simple. lags a little when going back to home from apps on my Z1 4.4.4. But it’s battery hungry through. I think Sony’s UI is still better so far.

  • Mohammed Khired

how to come back to the original launcher ?

  • Captain

Sony should adopt and collaboratively working (with Jolla) on some of these gestures on their next gen UI together with Android L and Material Design, something to wish for.

  • Namura Jin

Me too, the UI becomes ugly now

  • Anti-flat

How to unistall jolla launcher from my Xperia phone!!! Help me please!!! I tried it but seem like the jolla launcher is not good with Xperia UI

Ps I actually love jolla gestures style so much, I really hope that Sony will come this way too.

  • Zdenda Delfín?

  • dropped

Me too, can someone solve this?

  • djsat2

Ah its flaky but takes me back to the my Nokia N9 days (the best phone interface i’ve every used). Love it! Can’t wait for for future releases of this.

Settings > Home > Xperia Home and you are done!

You need android 4.4 for those keys to disappear. Immersive mode is available only on Android 4.4.2+

  • Oskar

Jolla has no interest in making Android more appealing. They want to convert people over to their devices.

  • opc

I think SailfishOS UI is cooler than material design, I got bored about flat so fucking much.

  • Ritwij

I thought immersive mode was a feature of 4.4.. Are you sure it came after 4.4.2?

  • Timbo1

I tried a test build of Sailfish OS on my Nexus 4 and it still needs a lot of work.

  • metcarded

It’s not bad. I installed it on the Z which doesn’t hide the navigation keys at the bottom due to 4.3, but I’m not going to update it to 4.4 and lose Text Wrapping. Functionality wise I still prefer stock/nova launcher. This might be a good UI for a tablet though.
