Sony Lue Z: Is this the company’s fist Windows Phone device? [Update]

by XB on 9th July 2014

in Rumours

Sony Lue ZAt the start of this year, we saw numerous rumours that Sony Mobile planned to launch a Windows Phone powered handset. Those rumours have died down in the last few months, but @evleaks has just leaked what could be the first picture of the device. The device is believed to be named the “Sony Lue Z” and will run Windows Phone 8.1.

It looks like the picture is taken from the box packaging. The phone itself appears to sport the OmniBalance design seen in most recent Sony Xperia devices. Obviously it’s worth remembering that despite the great hit record of @evleaks when it comes to leaks, he is not infallible. He even caveats the leak by saying it comes “from a tipster I barely know — no guarantees here“. We’ll wait and see what comes from this – would you be excited to see a Windows Phone 8.1 Sony smartphone? Let’s hear your thoughts below.

Update: @evleaks has pulled the post suggesting the info is fake.

    onscreen button look ugly

  • Mirrorpurple

Ugh… Sony why you do this

  • joseph carmine nero

No Sony.WP will never sell.i hope it’s fake

  • goldenblls

That’s not Omnibalance. The back looks curved.

  • Concha

Cool. Sony has to expand beyond Android…

  • Sture Karlsson

I wouldn’t expect a sales rise from this, but am curious if camera quality would be better :)

  • pgds

    Look ur face its uglier…

  • Ethan ‘blaze’ Parker

Would love to own this! Who knows, Sony might make WP popular too. ;) Android wasn’t very popular when Sony released X10 but Sony made it!

  • xperiaDROID

Looks interesting, and what an interesting name from Sony. Manufacturers who don’t normally make Windows Phone devices have interesting names on their Windows Phone devices, just like Sony “Lue” and Samsung “Ativ”. “Lue Z” kinda sounds like dig earwax in Cantonese language lol, but it’s not a bad name. I’m interested to see what Sony can bring to the table with their first Windows Phone device.

Btw, why everyone is like crying like a baby when Sony make a Windows Phone device? It’s not that bad right? It’s good to have options. Don’t hate on something you don’t like, there are other people who want to try new things and like Windows Phone.

  • xperiaDROID

Ignorance is the bane of humanity, my friend.

Most likely that’s fake, because the photos printed on the box show the screen with Album, Walkman, and other Sony app icons on the screen. D:

  • techielover

If that would be the real window phone then Sony is very much serious about the mobile industry!!

  • Ali Bach-Tobji

    WP nooo thank you, never

  • tiw

Fanboys always comment something like this, lick Sony balls.

  • Noctis Cealum

    Agree!!! windows phone sucks

Sony should stick with Android and develop Orbis OS or Vita OS for their smart TVs and mobile devices.

  • Reza

I’m not sure if Sony will make wp device, if so let’s give it a chance, not that bad at all. In my opinion Sony have to push their resources to gain the xperia devices in term of software and hardware not to forget the region availability like USA for instance.

  • gunboat_d

i’ll keep dreaming for an Xperia with WP.

  • Tjaldid

not WP8 but with the planned upgrades for WP9 it will sell…. as long as people can upgrade from 8 to 9 unlike the 7 to 8 which left a bad taste in everyone’s mouth

  • Rudolfs Caune

Sony, are you crazy! Don’t make same mistakes as Nokia. There are so few people who actually like WP.

  • DBS

You should stop being ignorant and look at the sales of WP in Europe. It didn’t matter if WP doesn’t still in the US. The US doesn’t matter to Sony either.
To Sony, Europe matters. And in Europe, WP has surpassed iPhone sales in a few markets thanks to Nokia. Now Nokia is gone and consumers will look for something else. Sony is quite popular in Europe and it would be downright stupid of them not to offer a WP device to catch those people that were with Nokia.

  • DBS

You have no idea what you’re talking about.

  • DBS

The name “Lue”, is horrible. But I hope Sony is preparing WP 8.1 devices. Specially since WP8.1 is way better than Android 4.4 in what storage is concerned. Because you can properly use a microSD card to store apps in WP8.1 something you can no longer do on Android.
Not to mention Sony should take advantage of the disappeared of Nokia from the OEM business to catch their users when they need to switch phones.

  • Akira Y? (??)

    “Lue?” sounds like a Chinese rip-off… :)

  • Yun
  • Satria

Vaio will never named for sony product

  • Avin

Sony in windows 8.1….. i would love to use it….

  • Kaarthikeyan Swaminathan

Atleast we got some balls to lick aint we

  • Jonathan Bratanata

    not anymore…

  • Rikimaru

If sony do a good phone like a Z2 but running on WP then we could see appear the best WP ;)
just imagine a Z2 with WP and sony kill the concurrency :P

  • Abu Saleq Rocky

Sony already take 5 million from Microsoft for wp

  • lovebmw

    whats a window phone?

  • Max

1st xperia was wp, i would buy one whenever its there.

  • joseph carmine nero

    Glad it was fake

  • Raj Singh

I’m so looking forward to a Sony Windows Phone… hope they make one.

Sidenote is a missed opportunity: They should also make Android Wear products not just the proprietary SmartWatch. There’s a reason they’re being left out of the conversation even though they were one of the first out with a SmartWatch. Now it’s a Motorola, LG, Samsung parade. WTH.

  • ryanmelendez93

if it had Sony’s audio enhancements, it’ll be more interesting.

  • joe

Sony still own 25% of the company share that will make Vaio and they still be sold on sony world store. That what they told me at sony store.

  • BruceLeeRoyJenkins

It was rumored to have so you produce a Windows phone. There were even talks between the two gaming giants

  • Afzal Zainal Rddz

Yes another wp brand choices if it true..

  • roby

LOL. It’s a fake, look carefully the smartphone! it is not centered! “ue Z” too

  • Afzal Zainal Rddz

There is no mistake if sony want another option . :-)

  • rzero21

without the Sony logo on it. Just VAIO.

  • Gary Ohanian

Yeah, it’s a little odd. I’d say fake too because of that. The time being so blurry is suspect too.

For me the most “alarming” aspect is the “black” on the screen being “blacker” than the phone bezel itself. If the phone bezels are indeed as black as current Xperias, then there’s no way the screen can be blacker.

  • Gutt Grinder

    XperiaDRIOD has a point..

Change is okay and come to think of it maybe Sony will be the first to make a water resistant windows phone.. :D

Let’s wait what SONY has to offer in the future..
