Sony SmartWatch 3Google has announced that Android Wear will soon be updated to bring a number of new features. These include GPS support (use your wearable without needing to lug your phone around too, great if you’re running or cycling) and offline music playback (access music stored on the wearable through Bluetooth headphones).

The update will also include downloadable watch faces allowing users to customise their watch, these will become available in Google Play. The Sony SmartWatch 3 will be able to take advantage of this update, particularly as it includes a GPS sensor. This new Android Wear update will land before the year is out.

Alright, Sony, we are waiting for an Android Wear update for Smartwatch 2 :D

  • AsadMulla

I think its good sony moved to android wear as now there will be a lot more developers and apps for the smartwatch

  • If only the Smartwatch 2 met the minimum requirements in specifications…

Sorry Sony, I’m buying the Z3, but I just bought the Moto 360 today. I’m expecting your next Smartwatch to be much much better though.

I think this watch was just a rushed sign from Sony to Google that they’re on board with Android Wear. Because Google being Google doesn’t want their Android users to start making their own OS, see Tizen.

I like the SW2, it was great, up until I smashed the screen, but it also had some flaws. What really made the watch better was after they came out with that big update a while back, that improved the flow, and added customizable watch faces.

I wanted to buy the SW2, but the software is killing me because there are no transition animations. I can’t live with a device without transitions.

    Dont worry folks
Sony is just following LG here
introduce a bland smart watch in a hurry n join the Android Wear Band Wagon

in 2 month u can see Sony Launching the next version of this watch which will b a properly designed one unlike this prototype watch
n ppl who buys this will b feeling bad, just like the G watch early adopters

  • I liked the device as I won it for writing a review, but after a month or two I sold it again.

Not that I didn’t like the device, but it just wasn’t worth keeping if I could get €100 for it. Now I do want a smartwatch again, but there is none out there that truly fits my needs. Being cheap is the most important actually, I can’t afford to pay over €100 but I did really like to have a notification center on my wrist… (hmm, I might have to look at the Smartwatch 2 second-hand again, hoping the price has finally dropped significantly)

I know how you feel, the SW2 was my first smartwatch and I didn’t have any real expectations. Honestly if you needed a SmartWatch right now the Moto 360 and LG Round look great. But if you could wait, I’d say wait for Sony’s next iteration or for the Moto 360’s second integration with better battery life, a review said it was only a day and a half at best

  • BruceLeeRoyJenkins

Exactly, Sony’s just falling in line with Google. I wouldn’t be surprised if Sony wasn’t even planning a SmartWatch this year. Google likes to keep a tight leash on their android users

  • i just can’t accept this design

  • Giannikosmo

    Xperia Z new update available!!!

  • Dean Weaver

I think the ‘design your own watchface’ was a brilliant update for the SW2. I will only consider this if I can do the same.

  • Whack

My phone is already at .230
    That’s old one I think

  • Luca

A day and a half? That means a half of a day with me :D

  • BruceLeeRoyJenkins

It actually said 12 hrs was hard to push, the day and a half was for light usage, pretty junk considering the SW2 could go 2 to 3 days average

  • Giannikosmo

    Yeah i don’t know why it is saying that is a new update….I think it’s Sony’s fault…

  • Dion

That update is old got it months ago

  • slkc

Is it possible that SW2 is updated to Android Wear os? I mean technically

  • xperiax10.awesome

I hv also ordered Moto 360..I am big fan of Sony design but seriously their SW line is pretty ugly, I never understand why cant Sony take initiative in SW arena like Moto did with 360.
Innovation is seriously missing in Sony these days :-(

  • Daniel

what happened to the “Sony won’t use Android Wear, will stick with Smartwatch OS”
Android Wear sucks (and also SW3’s design)

  • BruceLeeRoyJenkins

I really think this smartwatch was just a sign from Sony to Google that they are on board with AndroidWear like everyone else. I’d expect a really good Sony AndroidWear watch in the next six months or a year
