Xperia Tablet Z Android 4.4.4 update (10.5.1.A.0.283) rolling on Vodafone

by XB on 8th September 2014

in Android, Firmware, Sony Tablet, Xperia Z and Xperia ZL

Android 4.4.4 on Xperia Tablet ZThe Android 4.4.4 firmware update has started to roll for the LTE version of the Xperia Tablet Z (SGP321). So far the update has been released to tablets on Vodafone in Europe, according to XperiFirm, as well as Swisscom and MobilTel in Bulgaria.

We could not see any evidence of the update rolling to other devices in the family such as the Xperia Z, ZL and ZR, however it shouldn’t be too much longer to wait. Sony hasn’t updated its software product page just yet, but if you’ve managed to download it, we’d love to hear what’s new in the comments below.

Android 4.4.4 on Xperia Tablet Z

Thanks SiF!

Sony putting Xperia sp users in failed glory :/

  • Yasir Fawad

Got the following update for Z1compact today.

  • Irimescu Flo

    What update?

  • Yasir Fawad

    .

  • Moehamad Pay

Even my Xperia ZL belonging to remain at 4.3 Jelly Bean. So when???

  • roeshak

There’s just no order to Sony’s update process anymore! Wonder when z2’s update will arrive?

  • yongt

What are you talking about? The Xperia z2 will have android l directly

  • Abdullah Robben

i want an update to solve the lag on my ZL
and of course i want android L to reach my phone when it comes out
    DO YOU HEAR ME Sony

  • ShinOrochiX

I’m just trying to forget everything, I’m almost certain that us Xperia SP users will be ditched on 4.3, might as well live with it.

  • Fynjy7771

He is talking about 4.4.4 for Z2, I suppose. But Z2 updates regullary and is working very well on current sofware version (4.4.2). There is no reason in just changing the number.
Looking forward to Android L for Z2.

  • Kaostheory

Z1 on 4.4.4 haven’t noticed a difference or changed my experience whatsoever, except for the transparent buttons. Exactly what killer feature am I not using?

  • Mark

And still sweet f-a from EE. So I’ll remain on 4.2 for another 100 years.

(before anyone says.. I’ve tried updating through the tablet, PC Companion and SUS. I can’t root my tablet because the bootloader is locked. I can’t do anything. I’ve even tried PC Companion on multiple computers with Windows 7 and 8, just to make sure it wasn’t a Windows 8 issue with PC Companion.)

  • QBerto

The most big change from Sony updates are…. well… nothing, just move apps to SD, but I don’t know if they put it in Z family…. 4.4 give some news features like immersive mode (sull screen for some apps), and print capacities, also new look from Sony UI…
The one big change on KK is the posibility of use ART instead Dalvik, but Sony blocked (and don’t use it) it so there’s no way to activate it with Sony ROMs

  • mountain

However, you do not need to root your tablet in order to debrand it.

  • P9

    0.2MB update?

  • Constantine

On android L there will be no such option, to change from ART to Dalvik and vice-versa. There will be only ART.

  • Constantine

No, they don’t, It’s just blog.

  • Constantine

There is much more than just changing the numbers. Moving apss to SD, new UI and camera features. New graphical engine, etc.

  • xConjo

No need to unlock bootloader to root.
No need to root to flash a ftf file.

  • QBerto

Yeah I know, and I hope that doesn’t make dificult to port from new xperias to old ones :/, talking about those that not be updated to L

  • Damon Adrian

Me too. Don’t know what it is

  • pars71

my next device is certainly will be Samsung Galaxy . i am tired of this bad support and buggy and slow firmware of Xperia SP

Buy a high-end or you’ll be in the same. Samsung support is very bad for low and mid-end devices just like Sony

  • ash

    It’s months old update

  • ash

Haven’t you already got this? We get this one or 2 months ago

  • Emil Oskarsson

What lag? Root your phone and install a custom rom like existenz ultimate

  • Emil Oskarsson

Sony are better then Samsung when it comes to firmware updates and android updates on low and mid range devices though

  • Damon Adrian

I mean the 200kb update. I got 4.4.4 but have no idea about this one

  • mazin

is it a stupid approach from Sony or what? Z2 is not updated to 4.4.4 and they have updated the old phones to this version with respect to old phones, but we feel like abandoned once Sony release new phones and that is it, nothing come after we purchased it with huge price. on top of all, new flagship after 6 month, thank God, nothing was deserved to look at.

By the way, a new Android is coming, Android Lion 5 so I guess that’s it with the updates for the latest Xperias. As usual. KitKat is the last.

Cuz u have S800 and 2Gigs RAM. SP on the other hand does not have a lot of resource. I can’t use Chrome and E-Mail at the same time it lags like a phone from 2010. KK is supposed to be better on low resource unless it is BS from Google or Sony can’t give that. They excluded Trim in 4.3 which i guess should reduce lags and clutter over time. Now they disable ART. What’s the point of having these updates without their core features? Also 4.3 update for SP was not problem free in the first place. It’s been months they are still fixing bugs. Overheating is the most annoying one, I mean it can’t even handle a few apps running together why too much heat? What is it doing with that c/gpu power? I just wish they provide sources for KK for Custom Roms I don’t need Sony’s halfhearted stripped down fw.

And what about Xperia Tablet Z WI-FI?

  • Vitali

Just notifying, the 4.4.4 update started to roll to the Xperia Tablet Z WI-FI too!

  • Hanrich

Guys my Xperia Z1 still give me problems with the battery life! When I got it it lasted me 2 days easily but when I upgraded to I think it was kitkat 4.4.3 my battery only lasted 3 hours, then I saw that you must delete Google play service and then it lasted for about 10 hours! I then upgraded to 4.4.4 and it went a little better, now it last for about 15hours if I dont use it to much, but when I listen to music or are on the Internet etc. it only last a couple of hours! What can I do to improve my battery life? And get it back to where it was? Please help?
