Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact (LTE) can make calls and send texts

Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact can make callsOwners of the 6.4-inch Xperia Z Ultra were probably left disappointed this year to see no real successor from Sony. However, the closest 2014 Sony device to the Xperia Z Ultra is the 8-inch Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact. What may be interesting to some Xperia Z Ultra owners is that the LTE version of the Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact can actually make calls and send texts.

Obviously the Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact isn’t in any way pocketable (the Xperia Z Ultra was probably the biggest device that could only just fit in a pocket), but some may like this solution off having a small tablet that can make calls via a Bluetooth headset.

If you are thinking of buying the LTE Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact for this purpose, you may want to be aware of a few things. Sony includes its dialler and text on the home screen to easily make calls – simply pop your nano SIM into the tablet. The tablet has no earpiece or proximity sensor, therefore calls can only be made via the external stereo speakers or, more preferably, a Bluetooth headset. See the dialler in action below.

Thanks Steen!

it would work great with SBH52

  • Wolf0491

They should just include the SBH80 then haha

I’m so happy with my Xperia Z Ultra right now and I prefer to wait for the MWC2015 maybe sony will introduce the Xperia Z2 Ultra with 2k screen display and better camera with LED flash

  • Eduardo Otero

In any case it would be Xperia Z4 Ultra, remember on MWC’15 the family Z4 will be presented

I am waiting for the Z4 Ultra also. Tablet Compact has nothing superior that would make a difference for me. 6.4 maybe 6.2 QHD display, SD810, 4 gigs of ram, LED flash, 20 mp camera, more software tweaks for stylus input, and stereo speakers and I would preorder it right now. Hope they can keep the slim profile.

    aw yiiiiiissssssss Z4 Ultra :D

If it technically CAN make those calls, then I see no reason to block that feature, especially when the software to enable it is there. This is not Apple. If it’s useful – that’s another question, but I can’t see anyone complaining about this feature being there though.

Z3 ultra ik the Sony divise that i am waitining for
8″ is to big to cary it 24 houres

  • Harut Hajin

Yes after Xperia Z Ultra all other phones smaller and uglier than mine . ( Sorry for poor English )

You realize you can call and text with any tablet (in the US) with Hangouts Dialer, right? Shouldn’t be a surprise.

  • duke1

Ehh, I could already do that with any tablet via Hangouts dialer. And since I have hotspot enabled on my phone, there’s no need to spend extra on an LTE model.

How do you make calls and send SMS using a tablet that ain’t got a SIM card? Because in this case, your tablet has no particular cellphone number.

  • duke1

I’m using the cellphone as a hotspot for the tablet to connect to the internet. As long as you’ve got a google number and internet, the hangouts dialer app works just fine without Sim for tablet.

  • geekcon

it’s good to make video conference and call in areas without Wifi even if call with a tablet is not the best solution

  • Limeybastard

Would anyone know what country region Sony disabled the z4 for voice functionality?
I would like to purchase a z4 tablet SGP 771 but some international versions have the dialer disabled. Some don’t.

  • GetItGoing

No, but if you want an ALL IN ONE device, this is the ideal solution. I don’t want to have to tether through another device.

  • GetItGoing

Not the same thing. Especially if data limits are a concern.

  • duke1

…why are you replying to my comment I made 2 years ago? SMH.

  • GetItGoing

Because commonly people searching for info about less common subjects like this will find & read this thread, 2 years old or not.

No need to shake your head.
