myXperia update (0.0.A.0.71) addresses Baidu ‘spygate’ concerns

2014-11-04 09.00.08Sony has updated the myXperia application moving it from build number 0.0.A.0.62 to 0.0.A.0.71. According to Sony, the latest update enhances the user experience and provides software performance improvements. However, it’s probably a fair assumption to conclude that the latest update fixes the Baidu ‘spygate’ issue that we reported on last week.

Sony had already confirmed that an update to myXperia would be rolling very soon so that only Mainland China Xperia phones would continue to ping the Baidu Push Notification framework. If you’ve downloaded the update let us know if the “Baidu” folder creation still exists.

Baidu is now gone on my Xperia ZL, but I still cannot disable or delete the MyXperia app iteself. Come on, Sony. You only solved half the problem. You can do better.

  • Leo

u guys accept data share to Google, but not to Baidu. Interesting.
There is a baidu folder, though, it bites u?

  • Amit

Thanks Gust … yes Baidu is gone …

  • fribse

My Baidu folder has not yet been recreated after the update, and being deleted by me, so fingers crossed.

  • Marlish

    have a good day :)

  • ???????? ???????

My M2 18.3.C.0.37 with Android 4.4.2, it is running myXperia 0.0.A.0.55 has the folder Baidu with two sub-folder and 2 files in baidu/pushservice/database. After upgrade 0.0.A.71, those files and folders are still persistent. I deleted those manually.

My Z2 17.1.2.A.0.314 with Android 4.4.2, it is running myXperia 0.0.A.0.55 hasn’t those folders and files.

I’m still considering upgrade or not.

  • Praveen Jaladanki

I could see the “baidu” folder still in the phone filesystem. I deleted it just as usual and it does not seem to reappear.!

  • come2

Baidu folder is gone! Well done! :)

  • John Tu

I’m using a Chinese version Sony Xperia Z2. And every update is late at least two months. Guess that the update of Android L have to wait till middle 2015.

  • mike

I own a zperia zr and im here in the philippines.. And after i updated myxperia. The baidu folder is gone..

  • Tenetan

Mine now actually connect to a server in the US instead of China, not that it makes much of a difference in the long run.

  • tknkg

you know, really, just because a folder is gone…

  • tknkg

so, I’ve heard that argument, I interpret it like this:
if you’ve had a thief rob you you should let all thieves from then on…

while my voice may have little power against Google (whose privacy malpractice still needs to be proven) what power do you think it has against Baidu?

A country who doesn’t give a about it’s own citizens privacy/rights – do you think it’s going to care about foreigners? (well, regardless of this little rant, I still have high hopes for them)

  • jnorris

Would disabling background data for the app solve the problem?

  • jnorris

I think id rather beijing had my data than gooogle! lol
