SW3Google recently released the Lollipop update (5.0.1) for Android Wear devices and it is now rolling on the Sony SmartWatch 3. One of the big new improvements in this update is the ability to load new watch faces. The Android Wear app for phones was also updated recently to make switching watch faces more easily. Click here for a selection of free and premium watch faces curated by Google.

The Lollipop SW3 update can be downloaded by anyone running a phone with Android 4.3 and above. The update is being pushed by Google so you will have to wait for it to hit over-the-air (OTA). Alternatively you can try to load the software manually via the OTA zip file, click the source link for the download info.

Can’t believe a Sony product (which isn’t GPe) is getting Lollipop so fast :P

Sony can’t create its own software which make sony can be just a Google’s subordinate

Don’t worry, the Z3 or in your case the Z2 will get updated in april earliest and your Z, after ages…

Stop running behind..wearables and give the real update to phones….Sony!!

I got the update on Google play but watch still not updated. Do I have to do something for it to update?

  • Ritwij

But they will get updated, unlike your SP. :P

But in the end, all our phones will be running buggy software…. from Sony

The update is a disaster. Before, I was getting a battery life of up to 2 days. After the update, I am having to charge the SW3 every few HOURS. I am charging it for the fourth time today. If anyone is thinking of getting a SW3 – DON’T. I am likely to return it as not fit for purpose, and return to the excellent SW2, which is a mature product that works very well.

Similar experience – battery life is much worse after update.

Now sorted out the problem. An App Speeds Watchface, that worked well before the update, and put just what I wanted on my watchface, does not run properly with the new update. Not having this as my watchface has returned battery drain to normal

  • BartMan

Speeds watchface also on my watch. Removed now, will observe results.

Any update on this? Just got a SW3 yesterday so would help to know

  • BartMan

    Yes, it resolved the issue.
