Sony-Xperia-E4Sony has formally unveiled the Xperia E4 (E2104, E2105) and Xperia E4 Dual (E2114, E2115, E2124) ahead of the MWC tradeshow. The handset is largely as previously rumoured, arriving with a 5-inch qHD (540 x 960) IPS display, a MediaTek MT6582 chipset (1.3GHz quad-core processor and ARM Mali-400 MP2 GPU).

Other specs include 1GB RAM, 8GB internal storage (plus microSD card), 5MP rear camera, 2MP front-facing camera, and a 2300mAh embedded battery which Sony says has a two-day battery life. It is also the first Sony Xperia handset we are aware of to support Bluetooth 4.1.

The Xperia E4 has dimensions of 137 x 74.6 x 10.5mm and weight of 144 grams. The Xperia E4 will launch with Android 4.4.4 KitKat. The phone will be available in black and white colours when it arrives in mid-February 2015.

In Xperia E4 illustration, the top bezel looks so thin! Actual product, so thick…

  • Abdul Ghani

    The flagship has been announced

  • Tim Rox Westerholm

Looks good if you ask me. Finally some new design for Z4 too?

  • Dave

the corners look more rounded than usual! i really hope they don’t got that way with the Z line…

  • the black frame is what make it looks thicker

  • Chitti- The Robot

Sony developer’s page says E4 has Adreno 330 GPu?

  • bny

  • Chitti- The Robot
  • bny

    where is gpu??

  • shhh

No, it really looks it has a thicker top bezel.

  • bny

look at the 2nd video from above and go to 00:22
    It clearly says Mali-400 MP2…

  • Luxsaan06

The E4 Looks nice and the top bezel is really small this time… and on the Sony’s website it says it’s running Android 5.0 (Lollipop)

  • Abhimanyu

This phone reminds me of Xperia Tipo which was one of the ugliest designs by Sony.

  • bny

no it was not ugly it was cute
one of my friend still using it for 2+yrs and he likes it very much

  • Niels d. G.

There is some deception going on here, no doubt about that.

Actually, it looks like the top and bottom bezels magically switched places in the render. The camera in the render also looks a lot bigger relative to the bezel in the render, compared to the real-world model.

  • Abdul Ghani

    In video it says 4.4.4

  • ehh maybe, looks like it in the 2nd video. that would be funny if they screwed that up. actual device is not correct to the renders.

  • Stanly

Yeah Tipo was cute my little sister loved it.

  • asd

    where is z4????

  • Stanly

    Somewhere over the rainbow

  • Niels d. G.

    In the future still.

  • Stanly

    I got a feeling that E3 won’t get Lollipop update…

  • Niels d. G.

  • bny

maybe not but u can still njoy lollipop via cm

  • spatch72

Sony must have something else up their sleeves for MWC, otherwise why announce this phone a month early? This makes no sense to me. The E4 will be old news when all the other OEMs are announcing their phones in Barcelona. SONY!!! GAH!!!

  • Chitti- The Robot

    Under processor section.

  • Stanly

    That is correct :)

  • Chlastek

    You both are right :)

  • Tasfique Enam

    Trust me it won’t

  • Paul M

    Mediatek CPU? no thanks.

  • Rodrigo Nunes

According to this “real” live picture it is the same as the render. It is possible that the phone on the video is not the final version?

  • Guest

    nope i can’t see gpu

  • Chitti- The Robot

    Here you go.

  • Tsakane

Sony please release Lollipop this week for the Z2 and Z3 :(

  • aman nankani

Actually it’s a good news. We’ll be seeing some new devices other than this at MWC :D

  • Chitti- The Robot

    E4 runs 4.4.4. E4 Dual runs Lollipop

  • bny

hmm maybe they hav done some mistake

  • Pingback: Sony Xperia E4 and E4 Dual promo videos promise budget party phones – StdGod()

  • ?? ??

    Quite a big battery

  • Niels d. G.

Either that, or this “real” live picture is manipulated.

  • shhh

Looks like an old prototype. The slits on the top and the bottom also are different, it’s smaller and more subtle in the render. I trust the render would be the final design.

  • bny

It’s not big but it’s gud enough for this handset

  • bny

    yea i saw it

  • Chitti- The Robot

    Few wrong things
    1. Wrong GPU info. ( E4 has MediaTek CPU and Mali GPU. Just confirmed with gsmarena.)
    2. Wrong OS version info. ( Developer site says E4 runs Lollipop. But demo video tells that device is running 4.4.4.
    3. 2nd video has a different type of build with large bezels than the one is official pictures( Looks like video is not accurate).

  • Chitti- The Robot

Just confirmed from gsmarena.. It is NOT Adreno.

  • Chitti- The Robot

Any way thank god, Sony showed 2-day battery promise. Sony lived its promise in earlier devices.

  • Lucas Dlugapolski

Xperia E4 Dual it has 5.0 and the Z3 don’t xDDD

  • bny

    yea i knew it,
But why they did’t correct it on their dev website

  • shhh

I’d say the Xperia mini/mini pro were the cutest.

  • David van der Zande

Yep. Design and specifications are not right in the video.

  • Chitti- The Robot

Maybe they are not aware of that typo… For a moment I thought E4 has SD800. ;)

  • doraemonboi

What’s wrong with this release, so much misinformation.

  • Vuyo Ncube

Hopefully it’s better than the pre-release version (which was already not bad). If they can bring the price to $120 or less, I’ll be damned impressed.

  • bny

    yea :D

  • Chitti- The Robot

This happens every time with Sony’s launch. Even when Z3 launched, their site showed 3,400 mAh battery which caused lots of confusion. They took 5 days to correct that mistake.

  • xperiaDROID

Xperia E4 with 2300mAh battery, can last up to 2 days. My Xperia Z with 2300mAh battery, can’t even last a day. Good job, Sony!

  • xperiaDROID

James Bond is still testing it, it needs to be approved and confirmed safe by James Bond first before it can go public.

  • So that’s 220 PPI, for anyone who is interested. :-)

  • Chitti- The Robot

I know Xperia Z users are having bad time with battery. Hope Lollipop update improves battery performance.

  • LeAnnZZZ

    Better if it runs WP

  • Abdul

Same h/w with Android One heh
Price must be lower than Android One if Xperia E4 want to be the best smartphone :)

  • Why 5″?!?!

  • Kent Gaga

does anyone notice the bigger upper bezels on the short hands on video from Sony Dev world channel?

    what’s with Sony these days?

  • jumbo3220

white papers saying all models have TFT displays, never seen so many mess ups from Sony when releasing a phone.

  • Emil Oskarsson

Well good enough for an low end device :p

  • Emil Oskarsson

My Xperia z dies after about 4-4.5 hours of on screen time xD

  • Pingback: Annunciato ufficialmente Xperia E4: ecco le specifiche()

  • Emil Oskarsson

That would be a hell of a low range device haha :D

  • Emil Oskarsson

    With small bezels though

  • Rifqi Al Fariz

Excuse me, I had one myself and it still runs perfectly than any other low end phones out there.

  • But qHD!!!! Expected 4″ :(

  • Rifqi Al Fariz

$200 at max because 8gb and 1gb ram..

  • shhh

Here’s a hands-on video, render design it is.

  • Rifqi Al Fariz

Dammit why they can’t just break those “mainstream rules” about smartphone? Hope that rumored Z4 have something crazy like 64gb internal storage or maybe insane 5000 mah battery or even crazy shit like titanium body or whatever.. :-(

  • fuck this

I had a flashback! like i was looking an “upgraded” version of Xperia Tipo xD
Hated that phone, that was the only one i coould afford at that time xD

  • Snorky112

it says 4.4.4 because they didnt want to leak the new UI, so they let 4.4.4 UI on the video

  • Snorky112

It’s sad to see HTC and Moto having 5i 720p displays and SD410 64bits (HTC) for less money

  • Niels d. G.

    Ah, good

  • Snorky112

1080p display and SD800processor, vs 540p display with low-end CPU, now you know why

  • Battal Aljadei

    Maybe there’s two different designs as there’s different models ” Xperia E4 (E2104, E2105) and Xperia E4 Dual (E2114, E2115, E2124)” !

  • abc

    lol same here
tipo was my first android phone
first liked it then started hang and came to reset again nd again
now it’s soold out nd i’m rocking wit z3c
still i missed that cute little phone

  • sonysony

yay!! why sony why again with these cheap sets???

  • go

    u can get 16gb+2gb at 140$

  • gtop

I thought Sony was supposed be to be trying to get out of the low-end market and just focusing in future on high-end with sustainable margins …

  • Abdul Ghani

xperia z had issue with its lcd it maximum drain comes from the display

  • Ali Bach-Tobji
    It s the z4 bench
It s in french but you can translate

  • Paul M

I would guess that margins are razer thin so the only way to cut costs is to go with a Mediatek CPU. It’s fine for Sony because they are a big enough customer to get support from mediatek who are otherwise open source hostile and indifferent to supporting customers.

  • heh

    then his wife :D

  • Emil Oskarsson

ITS A LOW END DEVICE, deal with it :p

  • shubham

why didn’t you snap the dragon, sony?

  • mukul verma

xperia e4 will come with lollipop.I think its wrong in gsmarena site, even clove technology says it will come with lollipop and may be(m not sure) it may have snapdragon soc.

  • But…but PPI :(

  • Chitti- The Robot

Sony’s official spec page says E4 Comes with Lollipop

  • Sachin Gautam

its so ugly why sony why, the iconic design sense turns to shit with this

  • thoughts

I told you that, entry level flagship ;-) what you think about the camera one megapixel more than HTC ultra pixel lol

  • nick

A*****le s***ty sony atleast wake up now and seed the update…rival oems carrier locked phones are getting the update.. And here u r releasing a stupid device with mtk cpu..and qhd resolution on 5inch and that too with 5.0..dont u have dignity… Flagship u called z3.. huh.!!!!

  • Off topic

I found this article on the SmartBand 2 (SWR12) … you guys know anything?

  • name

That’s strange, in US it will be shipped with kit kat and in Deutschland with lollipop.

  • Asad Ahmed

when samsung use marvel and broadcom chipsets in their phones so why don’t you guys ask them?

  • Paul M

I thought Samsung use their own Exynos SoC or the Qualcomm Snapdragon SoC. I didn’t think Broadcomm make 3G or 4G chip sets, and Marvell only do CPUs?

  • Asad Ahmed

I think, you are considering xperia E4 as a flagship device ?
C’mon dude it’s an entry level phone and for that class. Specs are fair enough.

  • Chitti- The Robot

Yep, Sony is developing wearable glasses. There is also a post here in Xperiablog about that.

  • shanefalco

    I prefer my old xperia M…mediatek 960×540 5″ 5mpx ??? no thanks!!!

  • man

Since I’m one of the upvoters I’ll try and tell you why: I don’t care about what Samsung is using. Also Samsung isn’t the one in bad situation, they can do whatever they want. Sony does not have the luxury, Xperia C owners’ tears haven’t dried yet. They are being ciriticised about slow updates to high end, no updates to midrange and they out a MTK device? They release low end with previous Android and then promise to update it to the latest just to sell. Because these phones does not have anything different from cheaper alternatives. And even though this might be ok for low end Sony as always will probably price it high and fail.

  • InspectorGadget80

PLEASE QUIT BYTCHING bout bezels. you want a thin phone THEN buy a iPhone #bendgate or some other phone. it’s a low budget phone idiot.

  • InspectorGadget80

What you think this lil screen deserve to have a QUAD core processor? whats wrong with people these days. you can’t expect a power house mid range phone to have everything u want. stop over exaggerating for a lil phone

  • Niels d. G.

Actually iPhones have even bigger bezels. They are truly bezelicious.

Also, I was pointing out a possible publicity error rather than complaining.

  • Sola Hoi

If HTC can use a MTK cpu on their mid range 820s, why can’t Sony use it on their low range E4?? Many other phone makers like Lenovo and Alcatel are using MediaTek cpus, if you want to compete with them I think it’s the only way.

  • Utsav Shah

the design(corner radius) reminds me of this old phone!

  • Nightmare

  • LancerEX

What’s with the narrow top bezel + wider bottom bezel Sony? It would make the phone even harder to hold, plus the on screen keys take up space already :|

  • man

Well, it’s not really the chipset brand, it’s the way Sony approaches to and treats those phones that come with it and the reputation of those chipsets. None of them seems good. That’s why it’s a bad idea especially if the phone is not going to be cheap. Also the illusion that Sony is trying to create by giving one update which the handset should have come with is just not going to work.

  • ya

  • shit

  • pretty and budget handset offered by Sony Xperia. Before the released Xperia series counted as a higher range smartphone series but now they also comes in budget segment.

  • ????????????

why not buy those cheapos chinese phone

  • Jaywalker

Not bad for design even though I’m not a fan of round shapes but good bezels size anyway. And big display also. Nobody makes under 5″ unfortunately. Let’s see the camera quality and the rest.

  • ryq24

Looks a lot like a nokia lumia phone.

  • Emil Oskarsson

    haha :D

  • HunsonAbadeer

Bad reputation of MTK chipsets? Perhaps in the past but there are a lot of popular brands using them and they are just fine. The biggest issue is the source not being released by Mediatek but its no big deal for me.
I have a Lead2 form Leagoo, it costs me around 99 USD and its a pretty decent phone for that price (MotoG is overpriced in my country … in fact any phone is). I bought it to replace my old E1 that still costs around 130-150 USD.

And that’s the main issue here, Sony will overprice that little phone just for the big screen. Well perhaps this time it will come with a better camera.

  • HunsonAbadeer

In my experience anything from Sony is overpriced, at least in my country is. I changed my old E1 (cheapest descent phone available in my country with Kitkat) for a chinese one from dx… it cost me a lot less and I couldn’t be happier with my phone.

Sony would be better off using snapdragon 200/400/600 CPU’s or even try a intel chip. But if this means a basic phone with lte, quadcore and other mid/high specs it’ll sell cos it would be such a cheap ph
