T-Mobile Xperia Z3 Lollipop update to roll in “upcoming months”

Xpria Z3Judging by a statement that The Verge received from T-Mobile US, it looks like the Sony Xperia Z3 (D6616) Android Lollipop update may still be a long way out. The statement says that T-Mobile is “hoping” to roll the update in the “upcoming months”. Ouch.

T-Mobile also gave a bit of extra colour regarding the Xperia Z3’s brief sales hiatus and subsequent reappearance. Rather than it being an issue of demand, T-Mobile said that stock was temporarily removed as it “waited to receive additional inventory from Sony.” Check out both statements below.

T-Mobile statement on Xperia Z3 Lollipop plans

“We’re working very hard on the Xperia Z3 Lollipop update for T-Mobile customers – and to ensure customers get the best possible experience with this update. We’re hoping to roll it out in upcoming months and will share more details as they’re available.”

T-Mobile statement on temporary Xperia Z3 sales suspension

“We work closely with phone manufacturers, including Sony, to continually adjust our device portfolio based on supply and customer demand. As a result of this, sales of the Xperia Z3 were temporarily suspended while we waited to receive additional inventory from Sony to support taking orders. We’ve since resumed online sales at T-Mobile.com and expect to have the phone back in stores by the end of the week.”

    That’s evil.

WTF. AND NO LOLLIPOP FOR M2? Sony is a joke, I’m going crazy

  • mrninko

    it´s not sony, it´s t-mobile´s work

  • Jeroen van Ravesteijn

Don’t be, it’s not very stable, you better go back to ics or the 2 latest jellybean, iff you want to use your external SD card to writhe and delete things that not needed anymore. Because that’s over with. The not saying big chance they call privacy mathers

  • Jeroen van Ravesteijn

No be glad. And root that thing to get it yourself

  • Emil Oskarsson

For such a shitty device I would never expect long updates for it, for sure I would never expect newer Android versions for it. Buy premium devices and you won’t have that problem, yes they are expensiver but in the long run it could be worth it and maybe it will last longer then the mid range one?

  • canerr

I so regret i purchased an xperia z3. I will never buy another sony!

  • jonyah

That’s pretty sad. They actually just rolled it out for the LG G2 today. I had 3 of those phones, but between their bad coverage and the slow rollout, I ended up buying unlocked 6603’s and switching to cricket. Anyone want to buy a barely used 6616?

  • jonyah

Ya, Sony updated these a long time ago, it’s all on TMobile for the slow roll out. All they really did was add wifi calling (which I think causes more issues than it fixes). I don’t know why it would takes months to re-add that to lollipop.

  • RbbrDcky

I recently switched from my Z3 to a HTC One M9 and I can tell you that the peace-of-mind offered by the water-resistance and the at-least-3-times-better battery life is enough to make me seriously consider going back. Gaining Lollipop is not an even trade for losing those other features.

  • roeshak

Nonsense! Who pulls a product from their product line because it’s out of stock?? Don’t buy that for a minute.
The pulled it to force Sony to drop the price to make it more competitive. When out of stock all they needed to do was say it’s “out of stock ” and tell buyers more coming soon or something.
These companies just think the world is full of idiots coming out with that sort of bull!!

  • DanielGearSolid

Better to buy sony phones unlocked from sony store, or sony website.

    get updates much quicker

    (probably applies to every smartphone)

  • WilliamTell13

    Wow. What about the Z1s??

  • Vasilis K.

No man! They couldn’t handle the billions of orders they had, so they gave up on it! Everyone in this world dreams of a T-Mobile Z3! Even with Jinger Bread! LOL!

  • The Verge (aka iVerge) is an anti Sony website. The articles they write are dogmatic with titles such as “Sony should not make phones anymore”, “No one wants to buy Sony phones”, “Sony is shutting down”…

  • GigaSPX

What about a statement from Verizon? 7 months into the Verizon release, and still no simultaneous voice and data update. Supposedly that’s included with lollipop, but no release date set!

  • Redd Chon

You’re just adding insult to injury now.

  • Ryan Kumar-jassi

If it bothers you that much root it and unlock the bootloader then you can have android l now instead of waiting to know it ain’t gonna come out

  • Jeroen van Ravesteijn

Ja en amen blijven roepen tegen het blokkeren van je eigen geld gekochte nu hetende troep

  • Xperian

Thats what I was thinking too.

  • Timel

“No one wants to buy Sony phones” But I agree with them about this!

There are less people that really interesting in Sony phones, mobile devices like Apple iPhones, Samsung Galaxy S/Note series and Xiaomi phones are very popular and worth the money more than Sony Phones, Xperia fans may hurt about it, but sorry it’s the truth.

  • Utsav Shah

They are all bunch of idiots. They think they know everything about all the tech brands and write all the stupid things they think.

  • Utsav Shah

Oh one more truth is that Xiaomi phones are way better than Samesung phones. Better UI, value for money. No gimmicks.

  • Timel

    Yep I agree
Xiaomi phones are very cheap but they’re very great

Samsung phones, I think only their flagships that really cool for example their lastest flagship like S6 which had the world’s best smartphone camera

Whatever man! The Samsung phones and Xiaomi phones still much better than Sony phones anyway, Sony phones suck, so sad

  • phil

sony is good with the battery.

  • Asad Ahmed

Samsung UI is simply crap, I unfortunately bought a galaxy phone and I’m hating it as it’s UI is too much cartoonish. Xperia UI is way better as compare to samshit

  • Luis Ramirez

I need the wifi calling without having to change my number or require both parties to use the same app

  • Ajmal Roshan

Timel. Why do u irritate people?

  • Whoever it is, please stop paying this guy to come here.

Sorry but your request cannot be processed

  • Timel

    Yep absolutely agree

Samsung UI is fugly, I hate it too

  • Timel

No, I just said what I’ve seen!

  • Timbo1

Xiaomi’s UI is crap, no app drawer just another iPhone clone. One of the only things I like about MIUI is the theme engine.

  • Ajmal Roshan

If u hate someone, do you need to keep teling everyone they are bad?

    love the xperia,.[ http://SmartMoneyLand.com

Any Xperia Z3 T-Mobile owners should check out a new root method over at XDA developers. Feedback is important.

  • Ram Mar

True, but the 32GB rom did it for me.

  • Abhinav Tella

Here is my perspective, as a somewhat unbiased person as I have owned phones from LG, HTC, Samsung, Sony, Nokia, Motorola and loved all of them.

I love my Z3 and the battery life is awesome, but here is the problem the quality control/ production consistency is not good for Z3, I had mine replaced by T-Mobile 3x due to gap/camera/waterproofing issues. My local T-Mobile store themselves opened and checked at least 10 boxes in my 3 visits and said they had QC issues. Thank god T-Mobile replaces phones on the spot.

I never had to replace a phone 3x times before, also on auto the camera is not very good (Excellent on manual though), yet Samsung, Apple and others who use Sony Exmor sensors get better imaging on auto due to better software implementation.

As for Sony’s future I hope they improve their factories/suppliers QC as the products themselves are good, but as for brand fan boys you need to get a life, just get a phone that you like. These companies are not feeding you lol.

  • Abhinav Tella

No, T-Mobile added a site specifically to show where software development is for each phone, the Z3 still shows as under manufacturer development meaning T-Mobile has not even received it from Sony for testing, their reps say the same…. Even PTRCB is not showing any new version.

  • Ajmal Roshan

    Do u get paid
