  • David Hvatov

Pointless update. System equalizer & clearaudio+ still doesn’t work in all aps, like in KitKat.

  • Vasilis K.

    Give it to Z1 series!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Kiwison

    Which theme is that?

  • patch

    Not all Z3 series… (D6633)??

  • kosumo

    Spg511 and still stuck on 4.4.4 here…

  • I don´t like this ;( » “– Ensured the LED light is lit across all sound modes – and no longer offset by “silent”

And i still don´t understand the giant blue square when we make and receive calls!

  • Dakota

Carrier locked handsets not included obviously

  • Snorky112

works on sony walkman so ?

  • The_Newtype

Why is it Sony’s responsibility to ensure their proprietary software works on software that is not their own?

  • Mahan

Still no update in hong kong :(

  • The_Newtype

Hasn’t hit my unbranded D6603 yet, but should be great. Would have liked to have seen group messaging and ‘silent’ fixes included though.

  • Utsav Shah

check via pc companion. updating now!

  • Raymond

Sorry I don’t mean to sound stupid but what does the RNumberC mean in Firmware? for example R5C/R2C thanks.

  • Dino Laguvardo

    i have the same question

  • The_Newtype

I’d prefer to do it OTA, but thanks for the tip, sir!

  • David Hvatov

Why in KitKat works in every app then? Even system sounds have weak sound now without equalizer.

  • The_Newtype

I don’t disagree that it’s annoying, but Sony (or any company) can’t be required to check that every piece of software will be compatible.

  • Ryan

Here in the US. Don’t have it yet :(

  • Utsav Shah

A stupid answer, maybe something like release candidate.

  • César Benítez

    Z1 Compact (D5503)???

  • Mg

Just updated my d6603 Copper no brand, in Italy.

  • bilomar

Seriously? They don’t fix the most annoying bug. Just increase the volume it’s so low. I kinda want. I would go back to kitkat if I didn’t like lollipop that much, till it’s fixed at least.

  • bilomar

Isn’t clearaudio supposed to work in system too like xloud in older Xperia phones?

  • Mohamed Aly Hamed

    Why z3 dual excluded?
I will advise my friends not to buy it
    Sony don’t respect her agents

  • bilomar

Because lollipop 5.0 doesn’t support dual sim. It’s supported in 5.1 you’ll have to wait.

  • Raymond

    Fair enough.

  • Ahmed Ghorab

not true google added support for dual sim in 5.1 but company do dual sim all the time.

it’s just not the same priority as the main phone

  • Yomi

    R for region I guess

  • Afzal Zainal Rddz

    Region 5 Country maybe…

  • Snorky112

    I don’t care so I don’t know

  • As far as I know this number is the release number , the higher the number , the more healthy the security fixes .Sorry the English.

  • kj marway

I’ve noticed since this update, that the vibration upon text input is heavily delayed and disappears after a few key strikes.

A new bug, perhaps? Great update other than that!

  • LTEstyles

Got it on my D6603. Florida USA. Just connect it to your Mac or PC and update!

  • Alexsandro Peres

Precisa também urgente de uma atualização para o Xperia Z Ultra…

  • Raj Singh

  • Luís Alberto Pérez

    New certification for Z2 (D6503)

  • Ayad Fahos

Z3 dual is not from z3 series why sony keep always to the last

  • Paul Muad’Dib

Please, is there someone as Xperia Z2 user kind to tell me how much juice can give the batteryof a Z2 with the last update (screen on time, everything on – NFC, BT, Wi-Fi, data on LTE, automatic sync etc). Thanks in advance.

  • Jon Carlson

What about the z1s???? Any news????

  • Pietro Zanin

    It’s not on my 5803 yet :(
I’m impatiently waiting for it, Sony could release the update all at once like Apple

  • bilomar

So stock lollipop doesn’t support it but Sony can put dual sim support in their firmware?

  • vivek bhatnagar

My camera clarity drastically decrease after I upgrade my android version to lollipop. do something with this Xperia help desk

  • Ali Bach-Tobji

    You came from 4.4.2?

  • Alexsandro Peres

I usually get between 6-7 hours of SOT with everything on, except LTE.

  • bordz24

    Got it!!

  • ?? ???

Now available in select regions (AKA expect OTA several months later)

  • The_Newtype

What do you think of the update?

I usually wait for the update to pop OTA, but, sure enough, it was waiting for me immediately upon connecting my phone to my Mac.

    (I’m also in Florida!)

  • The_Newtype

Going to go ahead and update it!

  • LTEstyles

The update fixed a lot of minor annoying bugs and bringing back the clear all shortcut was a good call. For the most part I have no complaints. The weather is starting to got really hot here huh? lol

  • Willy Mularto

Confirmed D6653 Indonesia received this update this morning!

  • Chan Kin Cheung

to do that it would require drastic modifications to all logics, and a new API. Even if Sony is capable of doing this, I think it is better not to waste time and resources since it will not be compatible to other phones, let’s wait until Google does it

  • Chan Kin Cheung

it is nothing just the iteration number assigned. It did, does, and will not mean anything to a user.

  • Amabird

I believe Hong Kong has a custom version but also new version which is 23.2.A.1.62 if im not mistaken. For both Z3 and Z3C

  • Cosmo

D6653, got the update yesterday. Australia

  • Tun Aung

  • Nguy?n T?n L?c

Why do they keep putting search bar in recent panel, it feel almost useless to me, not to mention it occupy so much screen space making the recent panel feel crowed. How do I turn it off? They should have redesigned the small app bar so that people can swipe that out when necessary or they can pin it somewhere or something.

  • Sadman Khan

    Stock Blue and Red themes

  • Chan Kin Cheung

i think it can be hidden by a theme, from my expeience i haven’t noticed any appearence since i applied a theme. The theme can be found at:

edit: just click the link to open a new window

  • IshuZ2

Still no update. Xperia Z2 India.

  • browngeek

That doesn’t make sense. Lollipop is already out for the dual sim version (

23.1.1.E.0.1) and dual sim works fine on this. What Sony has just released for these other models is an update to their Lollipop release. Hopefully this update will also filter down to the dual sim version.

  • Dexter Moregan

Z2 at Thailand doesn’t get update yet.

  • nick

Its live on pc companion as reported by a user!!!!

  • nick

As a matter of fact it does!!

  • IshuZ2

    i checked. no update yet.

  • Kiwison

No not these ones.. When I commented there were only two pictures, now there’re more. I was asking the first two Z3’s themes

  • Sadman Khan

Sorry my bad. It’s Style Cover Copper. On playstore. There’s also White and Aqua Green. Pretty cool

  • M?rcis Buhholcs

Z3 Compact in Baltics. Received an OTA this morning.

  • M?rcis Buhholcs

You can hide it if you wish. When you long press to rearrange icons there is HIDE button on upper right corner which will hide the thing.

  • Thom Bilton

Does your D6653 model get hot when you use it with the new update?

  • Chang Andy

So where exactly is Lollipop for Xperia Z?

  • Ali

You put stereo speakers and you dont use one of it. So why did you put it then..?

  • Yassin Ahmed

when will the update hit Kenya

  • Serdar Aytamaner

Z3. Turkey. Downloaded & installed the new release this morning. Close all button works nice. Hope all changes under the hood work well too.

    n yes i prefer :
update to 5.0.2 if u want is UI & performance like me but lack on battery :p
stay on kit tat if u want stable & battery life

  • OTA or PC Companion?

  • shyam

What about xperia tablet z sgp321. Any news about update

  • mahesh
  • Timel

Material design looks good but Sony should modify it with transparency effects, classy design of Xperia devices deserve the Transparent UI.

  • Cosmo

truthfully only had it one day and so far so good. i did notice my phone get a little hot with the .726 firmware but only when it was towards the end of my battery life <20% and obviously when playing games for extensive times (15-20 mins)

  • bilomar

He means the search bar in task manager and not in homescreen.

  • bilomar

Searchbar magically disappeared for me in .690 :D now if that happens with the small app bar too I’m happy

  • bilomar

  • Chan Kin Cheung

that is not compromise, this is poor fw. You can’t just say “if u want a, then upgrade, if u want b, then stay”, it is completely nonsense. People deserve BOTH a and b working flawlessly in any OS version they choose

  • roeshak

The most notable change in this update is to camera performance. It’s improved the metering and dynamic range and the sensor isn’t as light sensitive as on other firmwares since 4.4.4 resulting in less noise and better iso performance at higher values.
I’ve also noticed auto iso at full res to be more conservative than it was previously which is also an improvement. It doesn’t crank up iso to 400 and above once the lighting is less than ideal as it did before.
Auto white balance also is also slightly improved although it’s still not good enough.
On the downside, the pictures are not as sharp as before so fine details take a hit. For people who take mostly macro and close ups, you might even think the pictures are sharper on this firmware because they are cleaner with less noise but trust me, they’re not. Sharpness is reduced here.
Overall, I’d say it’s the best software Sony’s produced for this sensor so far. Superior auto still isn’t good for indoor and lowlight shots in my view as it still cranks up iso. Even more now that there’s less noise to deal with.

  • Paul Muad’Dib

    Thank you!

  • LiterofCola

For the first time I agree with you. I’m tired of the material design garbage. Time to spruce it up.

  • aryan1357

just got the notification of update via PCC for xperia z2
guys anybody know how much the update size is?? i dont think its 28mb..(just saw it another post of xperia z3 compact with software size of 28mb).

  • aryan1357

Entretanto, já recebi a atualização 23.1.A.1.28
PC Companion. Já é possível fechar todas as aplicações abertas carregando só num botão. Impecável.

  • Lucian

We want this firmware also in Central Europe. Why this customized generic It is ignored?

  • Apurba2790

Why isn’t d update available via ota in India yet?

  • Gaurav Sharma

what about the sound quality..?,it has been reduced drastically…and not upto the mark as it was in Kit kat, have you noticed it….

  • Marko Kalmus

    Received update to 23.1.A.1.28 today.
Phone app has still very weird call history view. Same bug was also in 23.1.A0.690
After latest update to 23.1.A.0.690 call history
is behaving strangely. Phone numbers in list are displayed not
horisontaly but instead vertically! Phone language is set to Estonia and
word “Mobile” is translated to estonian language like
“Mobiiltelefoninumber” (very long word indeed) and numbers after that long word are on two
strange rows or put vertically like on screenshot. Sony support sugested: If you want to look for alternative call logs, open Play Store and
search for, for example, “call history” to get a list of suggestions.

  • Vasilis K.

In the meantime, 14.5.A.0.270 certified for Z1 Compact!!!

  • Chitti- The Robot

Try with PC Companion. Just updated.

  • Chitti- The Robot

I have the latest update. Facing no issues. Battery performance seems to be little affected but not by much. I suggest you to update via PCC making clean installation( factory reset). That surely works.

  • Apurba2790

But I guess it’s gonna download the whole firmware which is very big in size…. Or is it just 28mb via pc companion???

  • Russ Woolridge

dont bother with update i was charging me phone once every 2 days now i charge it twice a day without even using it

  • rumanuu76

I’ve not even had my 5.0.2 update on my Z3 Compact 9.0 (SGP612). I’m still stuck on Android 4.4.4. What a joke!!

  • Chitti- The Robot

Yes, it is going to download entire FW. Not just that particular 28MB update. But if your are updating from KitKat, I suggest to use PC Companion’s update. Or else wait and get the OTA. I’ve made a clean Install from PCC and got stable Lollopop.

  • Apurba2790

I think I hav to wait for the ota as m already using the build 726!! Btw please tell me if thr is any noticeable change in audio volume n camera!

  • Chitti- The Robot

Yep, As I jumped directly from KitKat 4.4.4 to 23.1.A.1.28, I don’t know how Volume and camera performed in *726 build. But now camera seems to be better. Less Noise and better white balance. As per Volume output, it seems to be same as KitKat. There is some battery drain( not much). I seriously suggest you to make a clean install(factory reset) through PCC by downloading whole fw. It always gives better results.

  • Apurba2790

Act wen I upgraded first frm kitkat to 726 I already did a factory reset so I guess thr is no need now…camera sounds good but after upgrading to 726 volume of stereo speakers n earphones both went drastically low Compared to kitkat… Urs is Z3?

  • Chitti- The Robot

Yes, I have Z3( D6653) Speaker volume seems good in 23.1.A.1.28. Don’t worry, a new update 23.2.A.1.62 has been certified for D6653. Which might be available in a week. Can expect several bug fixes.

  • Apurba2790

But 62 was Hong-Kong/Malaysia specific rite?

  • Chitti- The Robot

Nope, India has D6653. You can check certification here–>

  • Apurba2790

Thanks for d info bro… I just checked with ptcrb. N wat abt the earphone volume?

  • Chitti- The Robot

Did you mean volume through Headphone or from ear piece( top speaker volume during call)?

  • Apurba2790

Nope d headphones.. Is it as loud as kitkat? N hope d clearaudio+ works as usual!

  • Chitti- The Robot

Yes, everything works fine and loud.

  • Apurba2790

Great!! Thanks! Just waiting for d ota!! Hope in future Sony updates d ui n camera algorithms too.

  • brick

Oh man that’s weird indeed. Have you tried clearing data for phone app, re syncing your contacts, and factory reseting?

  • brick

I tested it too and camera is literally the same as before. Camera app version doesn’t change either.

  • brick

Clean the glass covering the sensor.

  • brick

    No they can’t.

  • Nguy?n T?n L?c

Eh you mean the search bar on homescreen? That one hide just fine. The other one in recent panel I can’t do the same. Long press free space on home screen bring the homescreen customisation, press hide search bar but it only hide one not two.

  • Nguy?n T?n L?c

For me the search bar somehow disappeared when my friend messed around with my phone a lil bit. Then after a while it appeared again and I still don’t know how to get rid of it. Anyway, there’re other times when the search bar became a “g and mic” icon like in landscape then back to the bar, basically annoying.

  • subin salim

Till this time Sony forgot fix the bugs in ULTRA STAMINA MODE. its in msg.
1.can not open msg in ultra stamina mode
    2. Battery
    3. Volume
    4. Image enhancement

  • roeshak

No change to camera app and not much to superior auto apart from noise reduction but the metering, dynamic range and iso preformance has definitely improved. The pictures are noticeably different from what we had on previous firmware.
Ate you a superior auto user?

  • Saiful Islam

I am using Xperia Z2 (D6503), 2 days back i downloaded the nordic version of lolipop firmware 23.1.A.1.28 and flashed it via flashtool its good and circuler recent app close all button shows up but there are still bugs. First one is the charging issue, it is taking long long time to charging now and while charging my phone heated up and also not backuping charging like previous firmware and second is still no nfc icon. I am waiting for the bug free version of Sony’s lolipop 5.0.2. Wish the 23.2.A.1.62 is enough bug free version.

  • brick

Can you post some pictures proving there is a change? I tested it myself and it’s identical. Unfortunately I deleted the pics when I was done. Make sure to clean the sensor glass cover before you take pics.

  • roeshak

Luckily I have a night photo taken with both firmwares. The old firmware shot was taken back in March while I took the other a few days ago. It’s a night scene with same lighting conditions so good for judging.
Both photos are taken with iso 400 and exposure compensated. The improved preformance is clearly seen. Considering that I’m actually a bit further away from the subject in the new firmware photo, I’d say that further emphasises the improvements.
I have uploaded both photos and 100% crops. Check them out.

  • brick

There seems to be an improvement indeed. Maybe I didn’t look hard enough for the differences when I tried it. Thanks for this comparison.

  • roeshak

No worries! I added a daylight comparison as well to the same folder on drive to highlight the differences in metering and dynamic range. Old firmware seems to focus on exposing the scene at ground level thus so there’s more reflective glare and clipped edges. The new firmware tends to have a more balanced exposure range so the building in the shot in the distance is exposed clearly and without the milky hazy effect caused by the sunlight in the old software photo. On the flip side objects at ground level are better exposed on old firmware.
Also you can see a reduction in the sharpening filter applied and as such there’s less noticeable noise.
Both shots were taken again weeks apart but around the same time of day under similar daylight conditions. The white balance on new software is cooler in daylight than on old software but colour reproduction is more accurate. You may need to employ the cloudy white balance option more with the new firmware.

  • Dhany Wibiksana

Still problem with x-reality and supervivid… Come on Sony fixed it.

  • Marko Kalmus

I dont believe reseting while I played also with other languages. Looks like problem lies in way phone app try to fit information to screen. If language has long words for mibile phone and long way presenting date information then you can see strange presentation for phone numbers in call history. Have see even like this:
Maybe someone can confirm having seen something similar.

  • Viljar

Yes, I live in Estonia and I have same issue with my Z2. Also couple of my friends who have z3/z3 compact has the problem too. Seriously, so far for me the dialer is the most important feature in my phone and this issue is really big problem if you make 20-50 calls per day. Call log should work as it was working on android 4.4.4. I attached screenshot how it was solved before lollipop and that’s how this problem should be fixed:)

PS: As you can see I was able to see 7 calls on my call log, but now with lollipop dialer I can see only three at the time, because numbers are wraped.

  • neil rees

Has anyone had problems since the latest update(23.1.A.1.28). My tablet SPG511 occasionally reboots loosing quite a few downloaded apps and the downloaded material in them. I have reinstalled them each time but I am not able to find any of the data that I previously downloaded in these apps. It has lost me quite a lot of material that I probably will not be able to find again. Not a happy bunny.

  • Rock Lady

    Thanks Sony!

  • Marko Kalmus

One workaround is to rotate phone 90 degree – to landscape. Then you atleast see unwraped numbers ;)

  • Shaktimaan

    OTA out in India now!
    Just updated…… 17mb only :p

  • Jordan

My Z2 lasted for 3 days 16hrs with 18% left on battery from a single charge. Your points about battery being worst in lollipop is a moot claim. Lollipop is suppose to also improve standby time according to Google when compared to kit kat which is not exactly a sony thing. I don’t remember when I was on kit kat back then with the same usage pattern being able to last that long in 1 full charge cycle.

  • Apurba2790

    OTA finally available in India!!

  • Joseph

    Canada received OTA today……

  • Sweggity

I am using a rooted Z2 on .726 i got the new .28 OTA sized 17MB can update it? or will it cause issues? Can anybody tell me?

  • Mohannad Ali

problem with video recording and youtube !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Roger Lee

When is Lollipop rolling out for Z3v (D6708)? Seven months after release is a little extreme.

  • That’s probably a question for Verizon, who are notorious for dragging their feet on firmware updates.

  • Yassin Ahmed

why does application drains a lot of battery on the battery usage an not the screen, KItkat was much better than this

  • Abbie Bednash

100% agree. HATE Lollipop. Latest firmware update not only wiped ALL the music from the SD card but now the phone is also omitting a loud buzzing sound

  • AbdunNafay

    Why no update for d6633??

  • Renato Parreira

My battery is draining faster now, anybody with the same issue? I have Z3 Compact…

  • Kabuto Kouji

is it stable now? or not?

  • VanHoff

Colombia Z3 compact received via Ota today…

  • Benjamin Levy

For some weird reason, Sony Mobile keeps sending me emails telling me that 23.1.A.1.28 is available for my Z3C even though I installed it. At least PC Companion recognizes that I my phone is up to date.

  • Lee Kw

Does anyone notice that after the update (xperia z2) it take 3hours++ to fully charged?…battery drain so fast… and it feel warm in hand, the average cpu temperature is between 50~60 celsius with normal usage…
