Sony Xperia split second photosLooks like Sony Mobile will be releasing a new handset on 3 August 2015 that will be able to capture split-second photos. Could we finally see the Sony Exmor RS IMX230 sensor included in a new Sony Xperia device?

Thanks to all that sent this in!

  • Augustine Kau

    What phone can it be?Xperia z5? #excited

  • Srijan Chawla

Excited !!! Go Sony Go :)

  • nikola1970

Caputre “Split second photos” mean PDAF of IMX230 probably.

  • Sadman Khan

    Camera improvement :’)

  • Dexter Moregan

    Can’t wait for next Monday!

  • aiamkesz

    Glad to hear!

  • Naail Zahid

here come the xperiablog “professional photographers” :P

  • Kristo

I hope they don’t release Z5 yet. They couldn’t have made much progress in such short time.

  • Abdul Ghani

Yeah and claims z2 is the best and say there is no other phone on the planet that beats it

  • Nasos Vasileiadis

I hope we will finally get to see a true XPERIA worthy phone after the Z2…

  • Vuyo Ncube

Silly question: is it currently feasible and/or possible to fit a basic thermal camera directly into a smartphone? I’ve had a gut feeling for a while that it could make for epic autofocus speed in all situations .

  • Emir Zarith

    probably C5 Ultra

  • Z2 was actually the best.

  • That, I await too

  • Yasir Fawad

This one with sony xperia z3 compact , no edition. With background defocus app. Go get a life.

  • Yasir Fawad

Its not the camera but the person behind the camera who actually make the best use out of a camera.

  • Sadman Khan

    There’s one. Z3 Compact

  • Yousuf Chishty

Its true bro. I m Also waiting after used Xperia Z2,a true worthy and Advanced Mobile in real time period

  • mUSICA

    xperia lavender

  • Deki

    You mean after Z1…

  • Zidhin Mohd

    Manual controls?

  • webusermy

Z1 had crappy screen and crappy speakers…

IMO each generation had great upgrades… Had the original Z, Z2 was good… Wife’s Z3 has awesome speakers and no stupid plastic parts on the edge that stains easily….. Z3+ has a really good look and good wet finger tracking.. of course for myself, finally 32GB internal memory.

  • Shaktimaan

    Revival of cybershot *_*

  • webusermy

Had a Z2 and I am glad to have moved to the Z3+.

32GB memory, no stupid plastic edges that stains (white Z2 user here though, doubt the black stains), better LED notification placement, good wet finger tracking, external USB connector (no flaps)…

  • Zidhin Mohd

I think so too. No new phones..just a major improvement

  • Sadman Khan

Well..only a matter of few days now

  • the truth

    xperia m5 with ,rear cam imx230 , 13mpx front camera,mtk6795,3gb ram,5 inch.ultimate killer mid range

  • Augustine Kau

yeah, but seeing that there will be a upgraded camera, its worth looking forward to ;)

  • Nasos Vasileiadis

Well, it’s a Compact… The last major update in the Z series was Z2… All the following ones were just minor improvements over the last ones…

  • Itsarapong Intoum

Whatever it is I just hope it software don’t be a shit. :P :P :P

  • Lukas

    C5 Ultra maybe?

  • Afzal Zainal Rddz

    That a very close shots….

  • lbwc

Give me an improved camera with OIS/laser autofocus with a software that allows me to take higher resolution shots in auto mode along with a SoC that doesn’t cause 3rd degree burns…and my money is yours, Sony!!! Give me the same BS as the Z3+ and we’re over.

  • Rafay

Sony don’t forget ois, afterall u need to beat s6 n g4, keeping my fingers crossed!!!

  • Alfino Setya

    Xperia Z5 Ultra, please!!!

  • Matt

    hahaha, nice one

  • Sadman Khan

Well if they properly invested in the marketing of Z3 Compact, Sony could have stolen the Apple customers. A lot of people love this size and they want it. Also it’s a looker and has “everything”. Too bad Sony is clueless about marketing or consumer demand

  • Ryan Kumar Jassi

Yeah beat devices that have sony sensors lol

  • Ryan Kumar Jassi

Thats more like high end with 3gb ram lol z2 has 3gb most sony midrange devices have 2gb or below but it would be a great device if it were real

  • iia3ezu

Xperia C5 Ultra. Budget, not flagship.

  • iia3ezu

I think the LG G4 uses its own in-house sensor.

  • Ryan Kumar-jassi

Well thats something new but most other devices use a sony sensor

  • Alvin

oh my shit….. just when i bought my z3… how great.

    the camera looks promising though

  • Alvin

    oh yeah….. z1-rage reborn!!!

  • Alvin

    xperia worthy CAMERAphone AFTER Z1..

  • Alvin

our eyes are actually the best.

  • the truth

    no it uses imx 234

  • stolnheartdealr

camera is TERRIBLE. I’ve had two and both have intense lens flare/glare that makes any photo taken near a light source washed out. Honestly because of how this phone used it’s sensor, and every other phone using the same sensor seems to take WAY better images I wouldn’t be surprised if Sony’s unanounced IMX230 camera falls behind the Moto X Pure.

  • Alvin

no one care about SD810 if you, Sony, bring that damn great camera experiences, great marketing, and great aftersales support (especially that damned service centre! firmware updates are already awesome)!

    Sadly, no one will notice.

Could it be possible to get manual control mode camera software for Xperia

  • Sadman Khan

I use manual when there’s a light source like that :P the camera isn’t terrible though but it definitely isn’t very good. It’s above average. Basically this phone has a bit of everything. Nothing will disappoint much. An allrounder and a good one at that

  • Wolf0491

couldn’t this be another one of those camera attachments?

  • Gayashan

It can be a new camera software with manual control mode

  • Shaun Coaker

The Moto X Style/Pure is using the IMX230…

  • If it has Snapdragon 810 or, even worse, 808, it would have to do everything else perfectly to be “a true Xperia worthy phone”.

  • stolnheartdealr

The camera absolutely disappoints on my z3 compact. I use manual settings often and maybe the z3 lens assembly is slightly different because I have a photographer friend with one and he doesn’t have the same issue I’ve had with both of my z3 compacts. Also I had my phone replaced after the second time I had it in the water, under warranty. I’m all around not impressed my this phone. I’d have gotten something new by now if manufacturers would make a good 4.7 screen or smaller sized device.

  • stolnheartdealr

That was the point of my comment. Using the same sensor doesn’t automatically get you the same image quality. Here is a PERFECT example http://www.mobilegeeks.com/exmor-imx220-shoot-meizu-mx4-pro-vs-sony-xperia-z3/ Look at the side by side pictures of the Z3 against the MX4, both use the same exact sensor but image quality is drastically different, check out the last 4 pairs to see exactly what I’m talking about, light sources OUTSIDE of the picture frame bleed into the Z3 images and wash them out, there’s a huge flare in the Z3’s picture of the wooden parrot. Sony’s sensor manufacturing is great, no one can debate that, from DSLR’s to mobile, but their mobile lens design, imho, is terrible, only thing stopping me from trying one of their mirrorless full-frames is being married to their lens system, every photographer knows that glass is what really matters.

  • stolnheartdealr

just found this perfect example of what I’m talking about http://www.mobilegeeks.com/exmor-imx220-shoot-meizu-mx4-pro-vs-sony-xperia-z3/ manual mode doesn’t fix the glare shown in these examples. This happens in nearly ALL my photos.

  • You never should not have gone for the white.

I basically have to adjuat the angle and stuff. But hey, it’s not that bad. Then again, this is still my best phone camera yet. Prior to this I used Z ultra and Xperia SP which had very very bad cameras and before that i had One X which was okay for its time. So Z3 Compact’s camera was a huge step up for me and it hardly ever disappoints me

  • Sadman Khan

There’s nothing better or even close in this size or price range

  • ludimilojko

Dude, that “shot” is not made with a phone. Actually, that “shot” is not a photo.

  • stolnheartdealr

unfortunately you’re right :( the Z3C is the best phone for its size, you couldn’t spend MORE money and get a better phone without going bigger, even the iPhone is now larger!

  • Shubham Mutreja

LG may be using a Sony IMX234 which was manufactured by LG in-house

Exactly man :P I love my Z3c though. I really have no complaints. I made sure i knew about the flaws before buying so i’m cool :D

  • Chaturanaga Manchanayake

Camera is meh and I don’t have any hopes that they’ll fix it or have a new module. They don’t even know what they’re doing.

  • Rikimaru Azuma

Well I had Z2 and I do not regret to moved on Z3+

  • PoweredBySony

I hope that is not with sd810

  • The_Newtype

Xperia with a xenon flash would be amazing…

  • HAWX

Actually I immediately thought the C5 Ultra. Sony is not stupid to use a processor that is equal or less than 810 for it’s normal Z series flagships after Z3+. I think it’s for C4 Ultra which will have quite big footprint and heat distribution for 810. Because Z4 Tablet runs quite good with 810 they say..

  • Alvin

    yupp…

  • Joseph Kevin Yap

I WOULD HAVE TO AGREE WITH YOU. z1 compact also has that same problem. Blow-up light source and washed-out images! wtf! IT’S TERRIBLE!!THIS IS CLEARLY A MANUFACTURING DEFECT. the front cam doesnt suffer much from this but the back cam absolutely does. I have compared it with the DEMO UNIT in the stores and the image quality is far different. I’m going to the service center to have this fixed. #subpar image quality #dont settle for good, demand great!

  • stolnheartdealr

As far as the z3 is concerned I don’t think it’s a manufacturing defect but a design or engineering flaw. DxOMark has noted it, the site I linked to earlier and there’s a thread in XDA from users all experiencing this same problem, they started speculating that the outside lens was made of plastic. I don’t think it’s an uncommon problem but maybe one a lot of users don’t notice or maybe even with the flaws of this phone it is still better than the one they had before. I had a Moto G before this and for $180 that was a good camera, it didn’t have anything fancy but it lived up to expectations, this camera I am constantly adjusting settings and surroundings just to get a shot that in the end is barely “good”. I’ve stopped using it completely except for “information gathering” like snapping a pic of a flyer, or something I don’t want to write down. That is what you would expect of a flip phone’s 3MP camera to be suitable for.

I think sony will introduce a camera accessory or its smartphones. Maybe its an additional camera.

  • Joseph Kevin Yap

have you seen the sample pictures i have posted just for you to see how bad the glare was on my z1 compact. Do we have the same night shots under bright light sources (streetlamps, car headlights)? I have compared my unit to the display unit in the stores. The difference is big. I believe SONY is fooling us, giving us a subpar camera quality that doesnt really lived up to the hardware specifications (maybe there was a shortage in hardware components that’s why some units were forced to use sub-standard quality components, just like in the case of SAMSUNG; some s6 units use different sensors due to shortage in ISOCELL sensors though they claim image quality is the same across all units). I suggest you take your unit to a service center and have the issue fixed, you’re not paying a premium price for a subpar quality you know. You have the right to DEMAND GREAT! After all, that’s what their promotion was all about (dont settle for good, demand great).

You mean like the QX series since 2013?

  • Amel_Marie

Yup, that one. Im not really sure if sony wanna update its camera algorithm, I mean the 5.1.1 update didnt bring obvious changes in camera :/

  • Chx Chong

Sony hope this time you won’t give us disappoint
Take down the ‘i’ and the ‘s’ :)

    -improve the camera grainy problem
    -solve the overheat problem
    -improve the screen view range

  • Great Dude

I remember that there is a case for that.
It is possible but will be more expensive for something most people won’t need or try to buy.
3D camera is cool, but it wasn’t a success . Probably companies sees that IR cameras won’t be a success too.

  • Great Dude

No it uses Sony’s IMX 234 sensors.
However complimentary hardware components of its camera is made by LG.
