Sony Store US website to stop taking orders on 28 August 2015

in News

sony-online-store-shutdown-screenshotSony has already closed all of its retail stores in the USA, apart from its flagship showroom on 550 Madison Avenue in New York City. Well now the Sony Store website is set to follow suit as Sony has announced it will stop taking orders at 13.00 PST on 28 August 2015.

Sony will be introducing a new product website at some point later, which will allow users to purchase from Sony’s authorised dealers rather than the company directly. Sony has a list of FAQs about the change here, the main thing to note is that if you have any Sony gift cards then you will need to use these before the 28 August.

I love Sony, its why sometimes i go on their website for admire its products and see what can be good for my usage. Now, it will be more hard to go on a specific product, for my case the Sony Store is very well done (For go to a type of product like Tv, Camera…etc and many others things). It’s a little sad to know this now…

  • ZXcorr

I just bought a Sony Bravia TV

  • nfs2010

No need to freak out, folks. The web store will still be there. I think it’ll just look like their current PS store (which you can also access from . Just click ‘buy now’ at the link below to see how they are showing prices from multiple retailers. As long as Sony has a web site that contains product info, I’m good :D

Now it becomes impossible to buy an unlocked phone from Sony’s store. Another stupid move by Sony!

  • nfs2010

Yep, AC thought they are folding it for good. They also lumped dumb phone numbers into smartphone market share on another post couple days ago =) Trying to beat PA in quality – I guess :P

    Here’s a screenshot

You should check out B&H, Newegg, etc. They usually offer lower prices on unlocked Sony phones (with US warranty) anyway.

Please kill that new mobile site @xperiablog it is the reason why Joystiq is not around anymore

  • skrug

well, not a lot of places sell unlocked Xperia, especially in Canada.

  • nfs2010

We don’t have too many Xperia retailers in the US as well (B&H, Newegg, etc). But their prices are always lower than Sony’s price. You guys should have at least 2/3 Xperia retailers – I guess?

  • skrug

    There’s, but then there’s $20-$30 shipping.
Looks like Ncix carries [web only] them too now.

  • MoYeung

Sony has already closed all of its retail stores in the USA … what?

  • jmaxim917

What’s really going on at Sony?

  • nfs2010

They still have two stores in the US

  • mountain

There are more Sony stores in Hong Kong than US!

  • Nicolas

would be nice to see Sony sell their device on the google store

  • SONY only

    Xperia M5 officialy announced

  • nfs2010

Makes sense :p I think Sony used to have 10-15 stores here in the US couple years ago. So the number wasn’t big in the first place :p Best Buy is pretty much the store for Sony & other brands here. Apple is a different story, of course.

  • bhagwant singh

when will sony realase z1 and zc 5.1.1 version

  • MoYeung

I miss HK. But surprising to know USA only has 2 stores left…

  • MoYeung

Canada used to have 40 to 50 stores then down to 15 then all gone.

  • nfs2010

Damn, that’s a big cut. I guess BB took over in Canada too!

  • iia3ezu

    Nothing much, really.

Why waste money on rents and labor when you can put more attention onto your phones? Sometimes retiring from the fray doesn’t mean you lost in the battle, this is a smarter move but leads to inconvenience to US customers. (in a way)
