Clove offers most competitive Xperia Z5, Z5 Compact pricing in UK – throws in goodies too [Update]

in Xperia Z5 series

Xperia Z5 ThumbUK retailer Clove has dropped the pricing of both the Sony Xperia Z5 and Xperia Z5 Compact devices ahead of their launch in early October 2015. The Xperia Z5 will now be available for £479.99 including VAT, whilst the Xperia Z5 Compact will be £399.00 (both prices exclude delivery). This is the cheapest place to buy across the UK – the official Sony Mobile Store has them priced at £549.00 and £429.00 respectively. (See below for the update)

The good news doesn’t stop there though. Clove will also be bundling an accessory with each purchase. If you buy the Xperia Z5, it will include the Sony BSP10 Bluetooth Speaker and if you buy the Xperia Z5 Compact it will throw in a pair of Sony SBH60 headphones. We don’t know whether these offers will be replicated by other stores, but it shouldn’t be too long before we find out. Good news all around if you are in the UK.

Update: Looks like pricing hasn’t changed after all. Clove has said that the previous prices were in error, the real prices are £549 for the Xperia Z5 and £429 for the Xperia Z5 Compact, in line with other retailers. The freebies are still included though.

Bundle regular headphones with a handset that’s got stunningly good noise cancellation capabilities. That makes no sense.

quick charge 3.0 announced (35mins for 0% -80% battery) and will be in sd820…why can’t it be in the z5 series (especially premium)… Qualcomm legit fk up 2015 flagships. now I can’t decide to wait or buy :(

  • xperiaDROID

Rumors said that there will be a Z5 Ultra with Snapdragon 820 and will be unveiled in IFA 2016.

  • xAntifreeZe

my problem is IFA 2016 quite far away but my contract ends in Oct 2015.I can’t decide :/

  • xperiaDROID

    MWC 2016 bro. :P

  • xAntifreeZe

shall decide after my hands on on z5 premium at my local store :)

  • Lio Soriano

why is the z5 premium left out with all the freebies? that’s the most expensive among the three so i’m a little bit confused why it doesn’t have any goodies.

  • marcyff2

I couldn’t wait and got the g4. Personally love it. but i feel like i am missing out on the z5P I mean mirror back is gorgeous. But really happy with g4 and following the camera and screen tests it still seems to behave slightly better than the z5 (so probably slightly better then z5p). But if you ever do move away from Sony just know battery life will never be the same.

Xperia Z6 with SD820 in chrome colour and with Z2 style notification light would be a PERFECT phone for me.

  • xAntifreeZe

haha I will never leave sony in my lif, even IF there are btr options out there (probably the problem with fans)… #sonyforlife

  • xAntifreeZe

z5 premium won’t start selling until late Oct/nov

  • marcyff2

I was like that (satio, Arc,(moved away for s2), z1,z2,(moved away for lg g4).

Hmm… just noticed something when it cames to how Sony do the commersial for this phones. Do Sony really wanna sell this Xperia Z5 compact to women. I was just checking that side up, and its only women using that phone. Ok there might be one picture with a male. Xperia Z5 seems to be targeted to both men and women. And Z5 Premium Also seems to be targeted to both. Was just thinking about it why there isnt a targeted commersial with men using Compact as well. lol.

  • xAntifreeZe

I actually almost move to g4 though, but z5 premium pulled me back to sony

  • duttyow

I seriously doubt the screen on the G4 is better than the screen on the Z5, even the screen on the Moto X Pure is better than the G4 according the reviewers. So like I said I seriously doubt that.

  • marcyff2

Having a g4 and comparing to others i say is the best phone screen i have seen.

  • aiamkesz

Z2/Z1 style notification light isn’t good. It is not visible from sides and very hard to notice from distance.

  • Even with Sony trying to go for annual releases, the reputation for always having something around the corner is still going to harm Sony sales for months to come.

These phones aren’t even on sale yet, but I and many others are already thinking what Sony will have next at CES and then MWC, and I bet it’s putting a lot of people off buying. The fact that Snapdragon 810 has had so many problems doesn’t help.

I can’t help but feel, along with the change of policy on how you can or can’t use the phone in relation to water, Sony is going to struggle to get huge sales with any of these phones.

I am sure that even beyond these sites and forums, the ordinary consumer is thinking much the same now.

  • xAntifreeZe

hmm thx for the interpretation, much appreciated :)

I do not understand pricing of Sony mobile. This is a reason of low sales.

    Considering Z5 vs Galaxy S6:
S6 wins in terms of screen quality (black in oled always better, now even white seems more white, colors are comparable)
S6 wins in terms of Camera (see the vidoes of zoom, OIS makes the job for S6 while Z5 looks really bad with its 5X digital zoom)

they should price the devices respectively to what they offer.
Z series are not bad phones, are good ones. Basically the proble is it is not TOP segment, so shouldn’t be priced at the same level.

Sony if you are offering worse quality than competition you should change these proces to make profit. Otherwise you will continue to loose.

Some time ago Z series what bit cheaper than competition and therefore more sales. Now quality still behind TOP competition but proces the same. Does not make sense for me.

People was asking for bigger matrix in camera, F1.8, curved lens, OIS…
did Sony delivered? No. Only autofocus is better but this is not much.

People asked for better screens, OLED or at least neo IPS. Did Sony delivered? No.
Newest competition is paired with 4GB of RAM. Did Sony delivered? No.

So where this price tags comes from?
    Any conclusion?

Because as I am offered S6 vs Z5 at the same time, unfortunately screen and camera is better in S6. only battery is better in Z5 as Shamesung improved the quality of product = no more plastic fantastic.

Forgot: peple asked to change the design as this one bored them to death. Did Sony delivered?

  • Svnjay

The Z5’s 5x zoom was better than every other phone besides the S6.

Also, the Note 5 needs 4GB because Touchwiz is so bloated and laggy.

You’re also forgetting that the Z5 has better battery life than the S6, dual front facing speakers, water resistance and lighter skin.

  • azzido

4K in Premium is the same as X-Reality or live colors in options.
It works only for pictures and videos – for unknown reason not always :/

At least they should allow to choose if you want these always or only in selected conditions.

  • a.mubher

Also active noise cancellation, HD audio support, micro SD card ,and MHL support… I still can’t believe that S6 doesn’t support MHL.

Let alone the screen “quality” here is a matter of preferences. OLED contrast can be overwhelming. Let alone the problem of black clipping and high Gamma.

  • Peter

Yes, but pre-orders are already up, at least in some countries.

  • Andy Roid

S6 has no microSD card slot, so it’s already out of contention

    Also, TouchJizz.
