Small Apps Material DesignSony Mobile has introduced new icon designs for ‘Small Apps’, which you may have noticed running on the Xperia Z5 series. Most of the Small Apps on your Xperia phone are baked into the firmware, so you will have to wait until Sony updates the firmware before you will see this new ‘material design’.

However, Sony did release three Small Apps to the Google Play Store and all three have just been updated to material design. These Small Apps include Currency Converter, Mirror and Unit Converter. If you want to get an idea of the new look then you can download the apps from the Play Store or the APK download links are below.

Currency Converter Small App (1.01.08)
Mirror Small Application (1.01.10)

  • Zeljko Kovacevic

Give us 5.1.1 for M2 who cares for small apps

  • I do. They are great for multitasking.

  • SM

Can I install this on 4.3?

  • akzidenz

    how do you do that?

  • Remsi

Currency converter not working on lp 5.0 and upper…o(-`?´- ?)

  • Andrej Petrevski

Yea give us 5.1.1 COME ON SONY LAZY ASS.

  • matiiijas

Probably by changing each icon through some software like Unicon for Xposed Framework. You need to have root though.

  • Shehab Skull

I made a flashable zip all you need to do is installing it through recovery .. of course you can install it manually if you want but in either ways you must have root access .

Small app browser won’t install on my Xperia C6833. It worked before on 5.0.2 and 4.4.

  • hansip

At last my small apps are not alone anymore :)

  • Aleky2002

    They updated the browser too

  • Damien

I don’t even use the small apps, as far as I’m concerned they’re not useful for me but I gotta stick with them without being able to uninstall those aswell. Thanks Sony, you’re a real treat.

  • Damien

Agreed, but according to Sony we will only receive the update after all Z series have got it aswell, which is ridiculous because our update is ready to go but it’s going to wait..

  • FrWhyMe [PS3 CoD AW]

All Z series have got the update already . It’s been out for weeks.
M2 is next and has been certified by PTCRB a week ago .

  • Alvin

Well i care…. Because i can do unthinkable math while opening browser… Like this..

I hate the recent app screen, it’s so ugly. Sony must remove the small app bar from the bottom. The small app bar should hide in the right screen side, I mean user can swipe the small app bar out from the right edge whenever wanna use it (the small app bar always hide)

  • Ørjan Laxaa

Can you disable the small apps? I think it looks rather ugly in the task switcher.

  • nfs2010

If you want to swipe it off the right edge, how are you going to navigate to the right home screen? Through some new gesture? Wouldn’t that be more confusing?

I never understood the point of having small apps. Seems like the devs at Sony Mobile are trying to be too clever by half.

  • Timel

it’s just like when you swipe the Xperia UI’s application menu out from the left edge
