Xperia Z3 Plus to launch in US? Listed as “Coming soon” on official site

by XB on 6th October 2015

in Xperia Z4 and Z3+ series

Xperia Z3+_1Sony Mobile could be planning to release the Xperia Z3+ into the United States judging by the official website. The Xperia Z3+ listing on the Sony Mobile US website popped out of nowhere at the end of last week and is listed as “coming soon”.

The product page appeared following the Verizon Xperia Z4v being listed and subsequently removed as we reported last week. Therefore, this could be Sony’s flagship answer for the US market considering the Xperia Z4v is now canned, for now at least. We imagine Sony will look to sell the Xperia Z3+ unlocked through retailers such as Amazon, Best Buy, Newegg and B&H.

We know most US Xperia fans are looking forward to the Xperia Z5 instead, so we’re not sure how much traction the company will get with selling the Z3+. Hopefully, it is a short stop-gap measure until it can start selling the unlocked Xperia Z5 family.

Allow me to comment on this with my Z5 from Washington DC. NO

  • Seriously makes no sense considering they have been only talking about the Z5. Just release that family of phones in the US (especially you, Z5 Compact!) and you’d have some happy customers.

  • DanielGearSolid

This is when i start getting annoyed with sony…

  • lovebmw

    Buddy, you mean one comment

  • Sreekanth Namboothiri

Sony always considers US as a garbage of there outdated Xperia series..Is this a sweet revenge taken by them with the memories of Hiroshima and Nagasaki? :O

  • Jeremmy Palacios

Fyck android 5.1 for this device -.-

LOL – so how do you like the Z5 so far? I wanted to get the Z5P, looks like I’ll have to wait till late 2016 unless I go ebay again :p

  • Svnjay

It doesn’t get very hot unless you’re gaming.

Anyone from US here? Could you please explain what are the issues sony is having to sell their products in US.

  • sexymotherfakir

For the Sony phones that have been released in the US there has been no advertising for them. As a result the average person doesn’t even realize that Sony makes cell phones. Plus unlocked phones are a very minor part of American phone use so the lack of carrier support isn’t helping things either.

  • LuvMusic

It is stupid stuff like this that kills Sony phones in the U.S. IMHO, they should keep building on their PS4 compatibility and release some limited edition phones in the U.S. that ties into some of their IP. If the carriers don’t want to carry their phones, go full throttle for the unlocked market. That seems to be the future anyway.

  • Chitti- The Robot

Yes, you are right. They need wide marketing campaigns. They should first let people know that Sony makes mobile phones. Then, they should market their mobile advantages.

  • jmaxim917

The primary issue: the iPhone. Also, lack of carrier support. The majority of Americans when purchasing a mobile phone will walk into a mobile store. They are not interested in unlocked, unbranded phones. They want a phone that works as it should out of the box and the only way to guarantee that is buy it from the carrier. They also don’t care about unlocked bootloader and flashing the ROM.

Sony Mobile continues its trend of making no sense…
As an example, you can’t even buy a phone from their website.
It’s like… they like making them but don’t like selling them.

  • Raj Singh

Sony Mobile won’t honor warranties from items purchased off eBay unless you have a physical receipt or proof of purchase. You can’t just print it out. It has to be a receipt direct from the vendor/seller.

  • lovebmw

I am not sure about that, i bought a z3 compact from ebay and the screen was acting funny, they fixed it and i did provide proof of purchase in the shipment when i sent it to them.

  • Raj Singh

I tried to send the SBH80 and they would not honor the warranty. I sent in the PDF of the proof of purchase from eBay and the PDF of the receipt from the vendor and they would not accept it. I also forwarded all the emails and receipts to them electronically but they said no.

I’m glad you had better luck with your device.

  • nfs2010

Yep, They certainly wouldn’t cover ebay purchases unless the ebay seller also happens to be one of their authorized retailers (Adorama, Newegg, BB, etc.also have ebay stores). But sometimes they do honor the warranty without any receipt. The chance is very thin & I’d not bet on that as far as ebay purchases go.

  • azzido

I guess a lot of Z3+ remains on shelves and they need to utilize it somewhere…

Its frustrating living in the United States and not being able to buy recently released phones from Sony with a US warranty. I would love to get a Z5 but spending $600 plus on ebay for a phone with no warranty doesn’t make sense to me.

  • Yujun Li Linwood Kinji

Yes sense … they are brainless

  • Marco

I’ve been loyal to Sony for thirteen years. Sony Ericsson T226, Z500, W580, X10, Xperia TL, Xperia Z1. I think it’s time for me to move on.

Hopefully, it is a short stop-gap measure until it can start selling the unlocked Xperia Z5 family.

And by the time that happens, everyone would have moved on to better things.

Sony’s nonchalant inertia, and US consumers getting dicked around by their self-important lobbyist-corrupted telcos (“exclusive to AT&T!” “exclusive to Verizon!”) is the reason for this happening.

This is what happens when you ignore the US market or “considers the US as garbage”
One would think that with Sony’s focus on the EU and Asian markets they would be in a much better position.
