DevilCase Xperia Z5_6Regular readers of the blog will know that we have reviewed several DevilCase aluminium bumpers in the past. DevilCase create aluminium bumpers for a wide range of flagship smartphones (not just Sony Xperia models). Today we are looking at the Xperia Z5 DevilCase bumper and we’re happy to say it delivers the usual high standard that we have come to expect from the Taiwanese-based company.

DevilCase offers this Xperia Z5 bumper in various colours to suit all tastes including Rose Gold, Red, Champagne Gold, Silver, Black, Graphite Black and Green. We have the Silver version for review – all colours are currently available via for $56.99 and for £36.99. Click through for our impressions.

Some of the key features of the DevilCase bumper are highlighted on the rear packaging including the high precision finish using a CNC milling machine, a perfectly customised fit and easy installation.

Inside the packaging, you will find the DevilCase aluminium bumper itself, a hex key and a number of spare bumper screws.

DevilCase Xperia Z5_3

The hex (Allen) key is used to remove two screws that hold the bumper frame in place. As we’ve seen in the past, the holes are drilled perfectly, ensuring that tightening or removing the screws is a painless process.

DevilCase Xperia Z5_4

The inside edges of the aluminium bumper is lined with rubber sponges to avoid scratching your Sony Xperia.

DevilCase Xperia Z5_5

The tight fit of the Xperia Z5 bumper holds the handset securely in place with little risk of it slipping out. The bumper also feels good in the hand, adding extra grip around the edges.

DevilCase Xperia Z5_6

The bumper does not intrude with the back design which means you can continue to show off the lovely colour of your Xperia Z5 without burying it in a case. The case also offers light protection in case of a small bump or drop.

DevilCase Xperia Z5_7

There is ample room to use the power button fingerprint sensor. The cutout has been designed to ensure there should be no issues with placing your finger on the top or bottom of the button without the case getting in the way. DevilCase uses metallic buttons for the volume rocker and dedicated camera button. Normally, we tend not to like it when case manufacturers cover up buttons, but we had no issue with using these buttons in practice, offering a decent amount of travel and good feedback.

DevilCase Xperia Z5_8

The left side has no cutouts. Despite the phone being surrounded in a metal frame, we had few issues with this interfering with mobile reception. We have heard of others that sometimes report losing signal as a result of these type of aluminium bumpers, but it is not something we have experienced.

DevilCase Xperia Z5_9

The top of the handset includes enough room to use a large 3.5mm headphone socket.

DevilCase Xperia Z5_10

Equally, the bottom of the bumper has a large enough cutout to access the micro USB port. There is also a hole for those that want to use a lanyard with their handset. Due to the depth of the frame, you would not be able to use the DevilCase bumper with the Sony USB Charging Dock.

Overall thoughts

DevilCase offer some of the best aluminium bumpers around for Sony Xperia models. The DevilCase Xperia Z5 bumper delivers the same premium finish and construction that we have come to expect from them. The bumper won’t appeal to all due to its price, but for those looking to complement their Xperia Z5 with an elegant frame that adds light protection without ruining the handset’s good looks, then you won’t go too wrong with DevilCase.

– High precision aluminium bumper with a perfect, solid fit
– Bumper complements elegance of the Xperia Z5
– Access to key ports and buttons
– Covered metallic buttons for volume/camera easy to use
– Provides light protection without sacrificing the design
– Very quick and easy to install
– Spare bumper screws included

– Expensive
– You may suffer mobile signal loss depending on your location/carrier
– Bumper not compatible with Sony’s official USB Charging Dock

Many thanks to DevilCase for sending the bumper for review!

I glad I bought one. Champagne gold color compliment with gold Z5. Feels so premium and much secure.

Funny thing is DevilCase is made in Taiwan and I couldn’t find it there at all. Bumper cases were extremely hard to find, and after testing them the camera button doesn’t even work. Looks great but signal loss is a concern. I have imported E6653 imported from Taiwan on Fido in Canada, and LTE reception is almost nonexistent in most areas (yet I get very good 3G/HSPA).

  • Ugly

  • iia3ezu

    Ugly and adding unnecessary bulk.

  • Tochi Nwodu

    Super ugly

  • deekbee

    Exceptionally ugly!

And the review stating “complements elegance of the Xperia Z5” is quite entertaining.

  • Bulk for Hulk.. :))

They must have a lot of silver ones in stock. Ordered a charcoal black and they shipped a silver one. Got it for US$33 +15 shipping direct from Devilcase and they included a free matte glass protector for the back.

Not that fugly….survived a fall of 30in onto tile floor…. grip is pretty good….silver doesn’t show scratches

Degrades from reception = increased radiation and the devices heat up quicker = a huge deal breaker.

Got the devil case three days ago and there’s no doubt about it they are a very well made bumper, but to my annoyance it’s interfering with my signal in a poor reception area that i live in so having to mess about taking on and off! With it been so expensive do not want to dump it, but it is annoying?

  • Hello from the other side

I think it’s because that they mainly do online business there , it’s a popular accessory brand there .

  • Hello from the other side

I bought silver and graphite black , they are pretty much alike but still a little bit different from each other , the graphite black one is darker than their pictures in my opinion .
