Album 7.4.A.1.22_1Sony Mobile has updated its official Album application (7.4.A.1.22) to support Google Cast. This means you can cast still pictures to your TV screen – you can also choose whether you want to cast your original or compressed pictures.

Sony has also introduced a trouble-shooting feature called Album Assistance. Clicking onto this option within the settings helps fix any errors with photos and videos – particularly if you are seeing errors or if your content is not found. The other main feature is quick access to rotate right/left/180 degrees options found within the rotate option. The new update is rolling via the Google Play Store or you can download the APK below.

Hi Xperia fans, as we all well know, Xperia as a brand has struggled despite stellar, award-winning products like the Xperia Z5 smartphone and Xperia Z4 Tablet. As Xperiablog has reported, there are rumors that the Tablet line might be discontinued. And there are perennial rumors that Sony might completely shutter the Xperia line–smartphones and tablets–which would not be a surprise given that Sony closed the VAIO brand because of slow sales.
Fact is, Sony’s virtual absence from the lucrative North American market means that it is missing out on millions of sales. And because Xperia is low-volume to begin with, this could soon mean that Xperia goes defunct. Problem is, no one’s going to know about Xperia unless they get carrier support. As Gizmodo pointed out, “lack of carrier support is seriously hampering sales.” Very true: In the US, where carrier support means subsidies, few will pay $650 out of pocket for a phone. So Sony’s offering unlocked, unsubsidized phones in the US isn’t going to help.
On the other hand, carriers aren’t going to carry Xperia unless they know there’s demand. That’s where we customers come in. I recommend that people contact their respective carriers and request that they carry Xperia Z5. You can tweet them–my carrier said they wanted to make sure each customer got the phone they wanted, so they promised to send the request to the proper department. Or even use the webchat option on your carrier’s website (the chat screen usually pops up when you go to shop for phones). Following are the Twitters for the top 4 carriers.

yeah right so they will be able to mess with awesome design of xperia devices and on top of that they put their ugly logo on the phone so person who have the phone is walking advertisement for carrier.

I’m not from US so for some people maybe that is normal but I can’t even comprehend such nonsense.

  • Chaturanaga Manchanayake

No they had that option before too. They made it quicker.

  • Chaturanaga Manchanayake

Seriously they really need to get into the American market and they need to advertise the Xperia line up like they do with PlayStation. Even when I scroll through YouTube PS4 is everywhere but not Xperias. Mobile phone industry is the best way to make money and if they’re quitting from that I don’t know what they’re smoking.

Hmph. How much do you think ‘more marketing in the USA’ will improve Sony’s mobile fortunes?

Enough rhetoric and here are some statistical FACTS:

Global market share held by leading smartphone vendors from 4th quarter 2009 to 4th quarter 2015

Since 2013, Sony has been lumped into the ‘Others’ category i.e. it is statistically insignificant.

The USA is Apple’s stronghold, even Samsung is not doing too well there. What makes you think Sony can do it?

  • laci_csk

You right, it was only “rotation” option, and this option rotate the pictures always in one way, in the right. You needed to push several times for rotate the pictures 180*.

  • theskig

I hate when they write rotate left/right!
It’s a rotation, it can be clockwise or counterclock but not left and right!

  • theskig

I wonder how many icons are hidden from status bar.

Seriously, icons and notifications on Android are a waste of space, they made a mess, it was better on gingerbread.

  • Matt

well i guess asian market is just a fraction of the great north american market.

should be clear, sicne there is basically only 200 people on the pacific rim , lol

  • Matt

seriously? can you guys get a better screen shot, turn of the twilight =,=

  • Matt

just go and buy a gingerbread phone ,lol no one will stop you

  • theskig

I have one. So can I continue to complain about the shit on Lollipop or do I need your consensus?

  • Matt

yes youll be needing my full written permission to write such a nonsense.

You made up that quote–where did you get ‘more marketing in the USA’ from? I never said that. What I did say was that Sony needs CARRIER SUPPORT, which is a no-brainer: Sony has ZERO carrier support in the US. No carrier support, no sales; few people will pay $650-700 out of pocket for a phone.
If you read the post it’s about getting people to request their carrier to pick up Xperia phones. It wasn’t about marketing. What the heck can Xperia fans do about marketing? Nothing. But they can ask their carriers to carry certain phones.

Even Wall Street Journal pointed out the lack of carrier support and the need for Sony to ‘learn something about distribution’:

Every brand that does have carrier support–like LG or Motorola–has decent sales. Never said Sony would dominate. But it should do as well as, say, LG, if all the carriers carry it. LG is profitable and has just 4% of the US market. So long as Xperia is profitable, it won’t be shut down. If you read my post, it was about keeping Xperia alive, not fighting Apple’s stronghold.

  • sammyl

Can we cast recorded video in this release?

  • laci_csk

My phone cannot open a video from album, only from video.
